  1. Indeed post roll would be an amazing feature. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Very curious about DPA lavs. I have used them in musical instrument when I was working live sound mixing and was very impressed. I have a couples of questions if anyone has a minute to spare ( Jeff? ): 1- how do they compare to Sanken cos-11d sonically was? 2- are the cable/capsule more microphonic ( sensible to rubbing ) then Sanken? 3- can someone demonstrate ( video or photos ) how the button mount works on a shirt? Does it eliminate rubbing? 4- 4071 or 4060? I am a Lectrosonics users if it matters. Thank you P
  3. Indeed the price seems a off, especially if you compare it to Comtek units. But again, maybe the audio quality is better then Contek. But still way out of reach for me. Now, curious to see if they play nice, side by side with a Comtek (216 range ) kit, used at the same time ( ex: Comtek for general IFB line and those for boom op line ).wonder if it was tested?
  4. Or maybe that there way of doing it is different and they don't wanna share the information. I neutral third party should have been brought in to verify both technologies without having any chance of proprietary information being shared. I understand patents and why they are here, especially in such a small industry but I can't help but wish everyone would open and share their technologies and patents so that all of us could enjoy them. I personally shared all of my ideas ( bag, mouthing brackets, rf distros, dc distros, drawer case, carts, battery charging suit case etc... ) so that everyone can built on those ideas and enjoy. Of course I am not a mfg so my purpose is not to make a living out of those ideas. It still makes me sad that it can't be done...
  5. Very curious about these. I have a titanium charger and I also stopped using it because I had a lot of mischarged batteries dying prematurely on set. Since then, I now use Powerex maya 8 batteries slow chargers with great success. But if a 16 bay charger works, I would be Interrested.
  6. Having both choice ( obviously not at the same time ), would be a serious plus.
  7. He guys, currently ( as in today ) shooting next to the Quantico set in Montreal. Anyone knows the sound crew on Quantico? thanks
  8. Over here, unless I am on a advertising shoot ( which will have a client monitor setup ) every other shoot has one monitor setup only and it is for the director.
  9. I guess what you guys call the village, is called the beach over here. Basically the beach ( for us ) is where the director main monitors are and where everybody that needs to see the image is. Personally if I feel a good relationship with the director ( pleasant and friendly ) I will gravitate around the beach ( within 20' ). If a little "colder relationship" then I will move away of eyesight but still very close by. I believe that filmmaking is about collaboration and quick exchange. Of course my cart is really small and totally battery operated.
  10. Hopefully they are fully functional in Canada.
  11. The important thing for me is to know how and what are the mixing capacity on the output side. Mainly what Harvey output assignment choice one might have. Can you assign a single track or a single input to a specific physical output. Does it have internal auxiliary mix capacity that can be assigned to a physical I'll put other than the left and right mix Or can it work as a matrix basically giving you access to assign any tracks or any input to any physical output For me it is very important to be able to create a left and right mix that I can physically get out of the machine thru connectors to something else and also at the same time create one or two auxiliry mix for general IFB and boom operator
  12. Hi guys, what is the most flexible coaxial antenna cable ( 50 ohm ) and if possible low loss? thanks
  13. For the price, remember that the Canadian dollar is currently worthless... Plus I ordered I bit more then needed since it was the first time. For or the folding bracket, I got them from Amazon, they are made of stainless steel, super sturdy and will hold 150lbs each.
  14. It is indeed pretty minimalist. But I love it that way. 688 is almighty I have to say. As far as price goes, 8020 is ridiculously pricey. Cart ( meaning wheels, shelves, folding bracket and 8020 parts ) was 1000$!!!! i could have had a simple aluminum frame welded for the same end result and for far less ( maybe 200$ ). But I am super happy with it.
  15. He guys, here is my new little cart. Still is a work in progress but really happy with it. Centered around a 688/Cl6 with an Octopack and 4 SRB. Had a bracket made that attaches to the Octopack and gives me attachment point le for my two monitors and two antenna points ( when I go bag mode. ). Everything powers up from two NP1 hooked via a PSC mini triple play power star. Using it on a drama series. It's been a joy. The he concept is really the hybrid bag/cart setup. Super small, battery powered, same power as a full cart. I believe it is a great way of working. Pascal
  16. Same here. Hopefully, wife gets better before the CMIT comes back.
  17. I had one and also the smaller version of it ( can't remember the name but made for drones ). Latency is pretty noticeable when combined with non delayed audio making it hard to look at. Range gel is pretty decent but definetly not constant, many many variable affect the system rf side and makes it fairly unstable. Also to take into consideration is the fact that unless you leave the Idevice on and logged in at all time, it's a pain to have to relog every time. That's something that is much better with the smaller unit but still far from good. I ultimatly sold both unit because I could not make them work with an Alexa video feed. Changed all kinds of settings, used two different converters and still no joy... now on all fiction set I'm on, they use Bolts ( Teradek ) and they are really terrible. We loose so much time having to wait for the system to acquire the signal, rebooting etc.. They also mess around with wireless receivers in some situation. Many two cents.
  18. Using the built in rf amp of the Alp650 should only be done when you need to compensate for long cable runs in between antenna and receivers. Boosting the signal does not give you more signal and usually result in poorer and more unstable reception. It is counter intuitive but just the reality. Boosting signal should not be done unless significant signal loss is a result of long cable runs ( 50' of rg8 loss loss or 25' of rg58 are what I would consider the starting point of using the amp at the lowest setting ). The he reason is that you are basically raising the noise floor of the environment and also all the bad rf signal competing for the attention of your receiver. BAD IDEA...
  19. I agree with Gordon. No real difference. I use an octopack with 4 Srb ( 2x 22,24 and 26 ) with two ALP620. Super small cable ( around 10" ). Range is simply unbelievable. Camera runs out of lens ( even with doubler ) before I even see one little bar going down on the RF meter. Simply crazy range.
  20. I might be a bad transmitter, does it always happens when using the same transmitter?
  21. Make sure that you have a higher freq dialed on the first chanel then the 2nd chanel on each individual unit. Try scanning without any transmitter on. Also did you do a freq coordination of all freq in your setup including IFB etc...? Any video transmitter ( Teradek or others )?
  22. I personally think that there are a couple of things to address when going this route: 1- I believe that a DC distro is not necessary and can be easily replaced by a simple network of paralleled cables. ferrites filter can be added in case of issues. That way we can eliminate a unit. Of course the best would be for a recorder unit to have a built in battery slot and DC distro in it. 2- one has to decide on RF distro or not. 3- internal wiring is the way of the futur in my mind. Having mfg copy there inputs on a multipin connector that is recessed and protected is the way to go and make a unit that is easy to use with many different product. 4- using a single block design In order to eliminate the need for a bag that holds everything together but instead is a simple sleeve to protect against dust and rain. 5- using the frame of this single block design to anchor attach point for an harness and/or belt. 6- have the bag/sleeve easily opened on the side/bottom so that it can be laid on a cart and easily interfaced with mixers/Comtek base etc...
  23. So about a while ago, I had the idea of wiring all my wireless receivers directly into my recorder ( all analog ) by fitting my recorder with a multipin connector installed directly on the chassis. That connector would wire itself directly into the back of the recorder connector by soldering in parallel to it. Then I was going to make a box that would include my slot receiver ( in individual slot a la Octopack ), with DC and RF distro included. The box would attach directly on the recorder over the connector and would then be linked together. The way I was going to wire things was as follow: Receiver out into a 3way selector switch: Position 1: signal of receiver to XLR Position 2: signal of receiver to TA3 Position 3: signal of receiver going to a external DB25 in order to send signal to an external mixer. But then, PSC came out with there unit and then Sojnd Devices came out with SL6. I think the idea is still viable.
  24. Rado, I am very interested and what you will be doing. I feel we have been working toward the same goal in a different way with different tools but exactly for those reasons, I think we have both benefited from what the other did and the same goes for every other person on this forum. I have inspired myself from so many ideas I saw here. So whether it is a Zaxcom, sound devices, Sonosax or Radio shack rig you get, I am more interested in the approach then the gear. After all a wireless receiver or a mixer pretty much are the same. What features, color or button one as doesn't the fact that I am after creative approach and ideas. I don't care if it records or it's a slot receiver, if it's digital or analog. I'm interested in the package ( bag, dc, audio signal routing, weight and size ). The rest is a matter of preference, comfort and opinion.
