  1. Pure West... And how come Batman doesn't dance anymore?
  2. I've used lavs, they work best in women for obvious reasons, but the best mics to use are headworn. Also the playback music should go through a thumper or some sort of low frequency speaker so it does not interfere with the speech. This is in a perfect world. Most of the workout stuff I've done was a little ghetto fabulous.
  3. I had an older Sennheiser supply that would simply not behave in the bag with a transmitter anywhere near it. I replaced it with a used PS-T and PS-1A. As long as the supply is transparent and can meet the power load of the mic then I'd say the supply is good.
  4. I made my own cables out of of bare copper, shrink tube, and teflon tape for my CD player. I don't buy any of that audiophile hype, but they look cool and only cost 10 clams rather then the 200ish that "high end" cables cost. It kinda feels good knowing that something you made by hand is in the signal path.
  5. It seems to be a little picky about its signal path, that is to say what preamps you are using. I've tried it on a few different mixers, and its effected much more then any other mic I have. My head is still spinning from work though so it might just be my anxious ears. I'll actually try to post some clips tonight .
  6. I can post some sound clips later, and yes that is Tilda Swinton staring back at you.
  7. So I'm currently demoing the VT5000, and its quite a nice mic. The microphone is very sensitive, and has a pretty high output. The fit and finish is superb, almost feels more like a Sanken, and the form resembles a CMIT, but I'd say the sound has a little more personality then a Sanken. The VT5000 is also super light. The sound as mentioned is on the bright side, but still as a bit of bottom to it. I have to say I wish I had it on a doc I did last week.
  8. There is a straight exit piece that screws between the rubber bumper and the boom pole. I actually have one I don't use.
  9. Be careful with the 680, it has some special power needs. The recorder wants a regulated 12V power supply. Your normal NP will swing from around 16v down to bellow 12v as you use it. Because the 680 was never really designed for bag power it lacks the ability to regulate the power itself. I ran into noise issues with the 680 I used to have, before I got a friends regulated Hawk Woods cup.
  10. Those miilimics come in jewelry boxes if i'm not mistaken.
  11. feel funny saying the word cleavage on set when laving a female? Or am I just a prude... By the by the anatomical is the intermammary cleft, but if I say that no one knows what the hell I'm talking about.
  12. I've been syncing my Nikon with TC and syncing sound and picture up in Avid MC automatically. In an Avid based post flow it works, but FCP as been ambivalent to TC since day one and like others have said requires extra plugins. So far its just been for my personal projects, and I just run the syncbox right into the camera with no audio scratch.
  13. I've been on stages and I like them, but I love location. Maybe its just a New York thing.
  14. I brought the TC slate on a TV shoot and the director said he didn't want to use it because if the editors saw it they would start cutting the marks into the piece. So we just used hand claps for the entire shoot...
  15. I have two 201/UM200C systems and one 205D/Lma system. They sound just fine to me. I still find that with wireless the overall quality and texture of sound comes from a combination of the human its on and the microphone used.
  16. Just recorded a modern classical music concert on my P82, with a ORTF pair straight into the recorder. Played back at home on my Genelecs it sounds fantastic!
  17. Something like this: http://www.rycote.com/products/accessoriesspares/hot_shoe_extension/
  18. As a child my father told me it meant "Mitt Out Sound" and for me thats how it will remain.
  19. Just bought a VT500 Water today. It sounds pretty nice and comes in a cute box. I also enquired about demoing the VT5000 shotgun.
  20. In england they use consecutive slate numbers on the slate. Scene, Take, Roll is the 'American' way. In some countries they tail slate instead of head slating. I believe that French slates traditionally feature clap sticks on the bottom rather then the top of the slate.
  21. Here is the video I wonder if its actually made in Switzerland considering the price price point. I wouldn't mind taking one for a whirl. Its also super lightweight.
  22. I looked at a shinny new slate and had the same feelings. I rock a Denecke TS-1 thats come to me pre loved by myriad camera departments. Sure its takes as many batteries as Radio Raheem's boombox, but it gets the job done. It has a sticker on the back that says "please treat me well" and I still lecture 2nd ACs when I hand it over.
  23. Sorry for the confusion its actually a p48 power supply ( Sennheiser MZA 14) I use it with the PSC barrel T powered mics. I got it used for a song, mostly it sits in the gear locker, but it may be pushed into service again now.
  24. The VT5000 (love the name) seems to have slipped past all the hype from NAB. Anyone else know anything about it? http://www.vt-switzerland.com/en/shotgun-microphone-vt5000
