Do we know if the MixPre 10ii will be updated for compatibility with the iCON Platform M+? Or will the Novation Launch Control XL be the MP10 control surface of choice?

I expected the same news to come from Sound Devices by now since it was sold off to a holding company much like Vitec. Shut the place down. Move it somewhere else to consolidate. Find cost savings in every corner. But, it has been just over a year. Maybe they will get lucky.
I've been involved in acquisitions. After evaluation of the company, the VP asked me "How much staff can we get rid of?". It's a cold, cruel world.
Really disappointed to hear this news. It looks like Videndum went public on the LSE (London Stock Exchange) May of 2022. So we all know that means shareholder interests over the actual product users interests... 😕

Looking forward to making the switch to the DSR4 eventually!
I was trying to find on this thread (or anywhere) if you can use a combination of SMQV style transmitters with the DBSMs.
For example- could I transmit two SMQVs, an HMa, and a DBSMD to one DSR4 simultaneously?

This is a pretty crazy topic.
I think anyone who has been in the business for a while knows the resale value of the gear they have. Just agree to a number on each piece of gear, and move on. I did it when I needed to have a value for my gear. But there are many values. The value as a package. The value as a package for immediate sale. The value of a package for a less urgent sale. The same for each individual item.
The problem in your case will be that one of you might have a couple of 211s that are worth $800 total, and another of you might have an SRC that's worth let's say $2800. They do the same thing. If you show up with 211s and turn in good tracks, or your partner shows up with an SRC and turns in good tracks, your rental will be the same. So really those pieces of gear have the same "value" in terms of your business.
The best way to handle this, in my opinion, is to split proceeds 3 ways and share the gear your have already (assuming you all have a pretty comprehensive package). New gear acquisitions can be purchased by the company as required to improve the business.
Good luck.
Thanks for the input. How you've described it is pretty accurate- it comes down to wanting a well assessed price on a used piece of gear.

Would another sound mixer qualify as an objective 3rd party?
Hey Jose. Yes, another sound mixer could count as a 3rd party. If you're interested, we could chat. 😀

I'd love to see one these! Even some kind of TS-C with Zaxnet internals would be incredible. TC, UB, Scene, Take # live updated.
I'm sure someone here is smart enough to figure that out.

Not to pee in your cereal, but if you and your partners can't be objective in the many, many business decisions you will be faced with......
I was eating cereal when I read this, thanks for the visual ! Hah. You're right. We trust each other enough to properly appraise, but would prefer to hire out this task. And as John said, to have someone sign off on it.

It sounds like basically you just need an objective third party with the expertise to sign off on your numbers.

Thanks for looking into this, Austin. I thought I remembered Rich Topham at Pro Sound doing appraisals back in the day. I'm not sure what he charged, but I imagine it was pretty reasonable.
The goal here is finding an objective 3rd party to appraise gear based off a list that has purchase dates and current cosmetic condition, to value a the equipment portion of a company's value (as well as accurate insurance reasons). Self appraisal isn't necessarily objective.

Nice article. They point out human hearing is 64-23k Hz. Have I been living a lie of 20-20k?
The pistol shrimp is the loudest animal in the world. It snaps its claw to stun its prey; hitting up to 200dB! I'm assuming underwater sounds would be weighted differently than sounds propagating in our air due to the fact it's harder to hit high dB ratings in a gas.

hmm..the cmc641 doesn't do well with being touched like that. Lots of handling noise.
Great show! Props department needs a little lesson on feedback and dynamic vs condensor, though.

I love my DPA 4017b. The pattern is a little wider and a bit more forgiving.

Hey Everyone,
Production took off on me before I could take my ERX off their camera. This was in Englishtown NJ, but they were on their way to Bethlehem PA and the crew is from LA. The serial number is 1173 and it had a Bodyglove EZ View case and an xlr/bnc Y output cable. (1/8">xlrm/bnc). Please get in touch with me if anyone happens to come across it....
Thanks!

If by timecode capabilities, you mean the timecode ruler, yes. But you still will not be able to directly chase or generate LTC (though a product like Lockstep can be useful).
Thanks for the suggestion. I just bought Lockstep and it works great! At only $19, it's worth it.

I just thought I'd jump in because this is such an interesting discussion, especially with Professor Senator's mathematical treatment!
From a "firmware guy" perspective, the SMQV and SMDB differ in terms of which compatibility modes and RF power levels are enabled. The SMDB is fixed at 50 mW, whereas the SMQV can be set for 50, 100 or 250 mW. The SMQV offers six compatibility modes: 100 Series, 200 Series, "Mode 3", Digital Hybrid (higher deviation version), IFB, and "Mode 6". If I remember correctly, the SMDB offers three compatibility modes: "Mode 3" (with enhanced limiter for European compliance), Digital Hybrid (lower deviation version), and IFB (also with enhanced limiter, if I remember correctly).
The two versions of Mode 3 are compatible, as are the two versions of IFB mode, but the two versions of Digital Hybrid don't interoperate correctly, due to the different deviation levels. If you use a low deviation transmitter with a high deviation receiver, the result will be that the transmitter could be in limiting and the receiver is still not showing full scale on the meter. The other way is worse: if you use a high deviation transmitter with a low deviation receiver, the receiver could clip in situations where the transmitter gives no warning. I'm also not sure what the disparity in deviation levels might do to the character of the noise floor.
Oh, and another subtle point about those different deviation levels: the high deviation Digital Hybrid mode does a better job of hiding the diversity switching "ticks" than the low deviation version. The SRb of course offers ratio mode, with no diversity ticks, but then you have a more expensive channel.
Fanatically,

I have gotten Lectro rx/tx in mode 3 to work with Sennheiser G3 series and Mode 6 to work with Shure PG series. Does this have anything to do with the higher/lower devation as well?

I'd be curious to see when the theater shows kick in. Of course that would vary with exact location.
Block 26 is the winner though.
I've got theaters ALL around me.

Interesting, What time of day?

I still rock Pro Tools 8 LE w/ a Digi 002. I'm pretty sure I need to upgrade to 10 or 11 to get timecode capabilities, right?

I didn't post the zoomed in pic of 26, but there was lots of open freqs. Thanks for the reminder, Jason.

You're best bet is sending it back to Lectro HQ. Did the talent's sweat get into the TX? If so, it might be a little bit of salt corrosion- circuit board would need thoroughly cleaned.

Awesome rig. I'm curious, how is the RF isolation on the Delrin material, Simon?

At first glace, that looks like a hirose power input. I still can't tell if it is the same locking mechanism though, but I wouldn't expect to see a hirose on a product like that. AVID's website has no info.

If I can convince post to just get scratch, then I'm a happy camera just slapping an ERX on there. And for that matter, any camera.
I agree. That ERX is the way to go. Split the output to XLR/BNC and you're set.

100%. The DSR4 is awesome.
The main delta for me is the lack of USB-C on the front panel. But that's about it.
