  1. Having been listening to proper race engines since the by-gone days of the Can-Am cars, I can say that this is indeed -- disappointing.
  2. I hafta brag... I just received my new-to-me Deva V from Dave Yaffe. Having driven one before, this has been on my wish list for a pretty good while. Already have a gig booked for it for this coming weekend on an indie shoot for a friend of mine and I'll be happy to have the ability to do a pocket-full of tracks with a lot less effort. I may sell my SD442, or I may keep it for a car rig.. Not sure yet -- Nice to have options tho. Cheers all !!
  3. I applaud the problem solving demonstrated here. I have had excellent results with football helmets using the same technique. For wind protection, I might suggest a white overcover sandwiched between the cotton shirt cover and the mic capsule. I think that this would be fairly out of sight and highly effective. Let us know how that goes. I am with the rest of the bunch here on safety concerns. In a former life, I was a safety trainer and I can say with absolute certainty, that in the unlikely event of a catastrophic safety issue there are two things that will absolutely ruin any defense you or the production company would muster. And ultimately, I think the production company would leave you hung out to dry and claim that you, as the sound man, were solely responsible for mic placement and audio capture. Here are where the difficulties will arise. #1You placed a pack in the area of the helmet designed to be free from obstruction and that could (and likely would) induce head and/or neck injuries. #2 You have destroyed the structural integrity of the helmet by drilling holes in it. A careful read of any helmet literature generally includes statements prohibiting the placement of stickers or paint (stickers obscure defects, paint may attack the material the helmet is made of) or modifications of any kind. Personally, I think you could mount a defense for the placement of the tape and sticky for the mic based upon the idea that the helmet was/is new, and that during the course of daily preparations the sticky is removed and the area is cleaned, and those taped areas are visually inspected for defects or damage Ultimately, a good accident lawyer or even a lazy OSHA rep would have you for "willful violations" for the pack placement and the holes. I love the ingenuity, but I'd suggest a new pack mount program.
  4. - Nice how they got a shot of the crew in there. I hope the deal memo has a new bagful of gear for the sound man when he leaves the jungle.
  5. Slow niacin .... Ask for it by name... Is a slow release form that reduces or eliminates the issues of flushing from regular niacin. This message scanned by NSA, reviewed by IRS, and approved by Skynet
  6. Good article. Should be required reading. This message scanned by NSA, reviewed by IRS, and approved by Skynet
  7. The experience to recognize what needs to be done, the ability and the skill to actually do it, combined with the courage and caring to move forward on that knowledge. All this carefully wrapped around an awesome personality and secured with a solid work ethic. This message scanned by NSA, IRS, and Skynet, and has been approved for your usage by the Empire.
  8. Great pics and thanks for posting them !! I am glad to have been able to make so many new friends and meet some of the legends. Thanks for a fantastic weekend -- Untold thanks to Durf and Whit for making the behind the scenes stuff go together seamlessly, AWESOME showing from the vendors, and especially for the hostess who made all of us feel like family, A most humble thank you for all of the work that you did. Rich, you should post pics of the new cart -- I think it's a HIT, and the rest of the crew here is probably going to think so too..
  9. Looking forward to the next one already This message approved by Skynet
  10. It's a scratch track, not a final production mix. Hang a comtek on it and stop trying to make it something it's not designed to be. . Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk 2
  11. In my best Scottish accent.... "It's a bloody thing of beauty, it is..." Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk 2
  12. Recently finished a feature that had 2 of the C300's among the six other cameras in the package. Timecode reliability is nil unless you have a sync box mounted full time feeding the camera. As mentioned above, battery swaps and what seems like just about any other function except pushing 'record' will cause jam to fail.
  13. I just made a few power cables for my BDS using audio cable. No problems at all. I just carefully trimmed the shielding and simply added a small bit of shrink tube to make sure that it was all sealed up against the outer casing of the cable before finishing the standard connections for the connectors. No worries. Looks fine, works fine... problem eliminated.
  14. Yup... This was the first thought that raced through my mind as well. -- Or a large rubber vacuum line cap (think automotive parts)
  15. Impressive so far... If I am indeed seeing two columns of drawer spaces, I'm lovin' it ! Thumbs up for sure ! Still following
  16. The manual states that the "signal input through this jack can be recorded to tracks 5 & 6, or to the stereo track." I read this to mean that no provision exists to send the digital signal to any other place. I know it doesn't much help, but it does answer the question. Cheers!
  17. We are using 2 C300's (along with 6 other cameras of various type) right now. I have found the C300 T/C to be --AT BEST-- dodgy. You will be well served to make the C300 eat whatever TC you are feeding from a properly attached box...The other way round is a recipe for heartache.
  18. Truth --> They will get the sound they deserve. They might also accidentally catch a few bits that actually sound good. Sadly, some fool will take this job hoping to add a line to their credit sheet and they will lose their shirt, have terrible sound, run screaming from the credits, or all of the above.
  19. Graham, If you make it close to Atlanta, give a ring... first pint is on me. And according to US law, you should have an FCC license. There are a few people here with the license, and exponentially more people here without the license. There are many members here who can give you expert advise on that step.
  20. Ditto what Pascal said. Extra emphasis on the fact that pools suck..and that the Schoeps hates humidity...
  21. We actually have more than enough crew already in Atlanta.

    My new bag....

As has been said many times... Stunning. Clean, function, elegant, visually simple all wrapped up into a wonderful package. An award well deserved. Pints for you and your crew !!
