  1. Slick! Now, if you could only put a receptacle on the bottom to drop it onto a low rolling stand...
  2. +1 on what Jim Gallup said. Toss the stanky earpads, including the thin foam liner inside the 7506/V6 cups and replace em. Also, try witch hazel and paper towels on the headband, followed by a day or two in the sun. That oughta do it. And bill her for the earpads...
  3. Michael Lonsdale in NYC makes great carts using that 8020 extruded aluminum material. The way he designs them, all the paired vertical channels are at 19" and are rackmountable. We're working with one now, and it's pretty slick.
  4. That's what we traditionally have done too, Whitney. I think our post super is assuming that the CF cards they get contain the only copy of the original recording.
  5. Hey, has anyone doing extended jobs (episodic tv or a movie) had production request the use of a transfer log when handing in the day's work on CF cards? Post wants us to use a spreadsheet form with a kind of check in / check out system for specific pieces of media to let us know when it's okay to overwrite those cards. I suspect it's based on the DIT best practice of avoiding an overwrite on an untransferred camera roll, but since the CF card material we turn in is itself a duplicate (cards are from a 788t-SSD) and, in our case, actually, a triplicate, it seems like an unnecessary precaution, particularly since we rotate only six or eight cards maximum over the course of a season... Has anyone else on the boards had a similar experience?
  6. Thanks, Gooch! Not only did Mike Paul have the answer, he knew it from memory. Great call! BTW, it's hold Stop on the top panel, then hit shift, then enter, and "Service Mode" appears at the bottom of the selection menu. Thanks again!
  7. Can anybody on the forum recall the button sequence to access the service menu on a Fostex PD606? Still using one as a backup, and looking to initialize and defragment the onboard drive... Fostex service has evaporated, and none of my usual go-to peeps can recall... Thanks in advance!
  8. Very informative. Thanks. I've worked on sets with split English/US crews. I remember a lot of amusement when the visiting AD asked everyone's permission to "go an hour or two over" one night. I suppose this is why...
  9. I was told there'd be no math.
  10. No Alaska, Hawaii or All In The Family! (Glendale, Queens NY) http://www.flickr.com/photos/wallyg/364986659/
  11. +1 on the Maha charger with Imedion AAs or AAAs; It charges either. The 520mAh 9V Imedion Lithium-Polymers work great too, but use a dedicated 4 bank charger, which is a little on the cheap side, quality-wise.
  12. Hey, Matt. Pete over at Gotham carries short 12V LED strips that can run in series. I was looking at them myself a few days ago for a new, tricked-out follow cart...
  13. Hey, Richard... Sorry if this makes you feel old, but I played the kid in the camper during the motorcycle accident on Cronenberg's "Rabid." I believe you put a microphone in my Montreal Canadiens hat (which they made me turn inside out for logo trouble)... Karl Wasserman
  14. I loved the Harvey mod. I remember the huge LED SMPTE display on the front deck. Very useful on those bleary eyed long shoots, just as a constant reminder of the EXACT time... k.
  15. Okay, Comtek users: Can anybody suggest why I might want to use the larger Phase Right PRA-216 antenna rather than the significantly more compact Mini-Mite® 216 with the BST-75 basestation? In addition to being way smaller, Comtek says that the Mini-Mite eliminates the "need for an antenna ground." Whaddaya think? Thanks in advance. Karl
  16. Not necessarily a sound topic, more of a public interest one, particularly for folks working in the NY area who know the man... Über-paparazzo Steve Sands was busted on the set of Smash yesterday, and a buddy of mine in production alerted me to a video now circulating on YouTube... Enjoy:
  17. Mesmerizing. Nice that you edited out the parts where you nipped your finger or the meaty part of your thumb... : ) MIdway through cutting up a roll of Moleskin, I am guilty of hovering the cursor over the 'BUY NOW' button for one of those Guillotine-style paper trimmers...
  18. Does anyone know if the Sound Devices CL-9 can be interfaced with their 664?
