  1. I will be doing a shoot close to Denver, Co. I plan on using Lectrosonics Blk 22, 25 and 26. Does anyone know of issues with these Blocks in that area. Thanks, Steve
  2. Dave from K-Tek has contacted me directly to sort it out. Thanks Dave. I must add, that apart from this, I'm actually very happy with the Stingray. Was just wondering if this is a one off issue, or if anyone else out there has encountered this. Thanks, Steve
  3. The frame on my K-Tek Stingray just broke. Its a snap on the right hand bend on top front. Has anyone else had this problem. Not even a year old.
  4. The 633 in the stingray- a perfect match! NP-1 cup powering 411s neatly enclosed under RXs. Very solid
  5. The Stingray is awesome. It is a bit heavier than other bags, but this is because it is so rigid. This is such a bonus, as there is no sag. Cables and battery distribution are neatly zipped away, sides and bottom fully accessible. I've got my bag carrying 633, 4x411, 2x smda tx and NP1 BDS and it works really well
  6. This is the best form of transport when shooting in India!
  7. If you can't get what you need ( want ) in a 12 hour day, then YOU are NOT doing your job as a 1st AD (and director). To tell the crew to suck it up and keep going is not a good recipe. They have a huge budget, just shoot for an extra week. Don't tell me there's no money - think of the overtime payments in the current model
  8. My 2013 highlight was working with a great small crew on a feature in Cambodia. Then watching it premiere and win an award at the Venice Film Festival. The whole crew went! It really helped me remember that film is an art form. I think this gets lost a bit sometimes.
  9. Hmm, another reason to have a shotgun in the kit - (and i'm not talking about a mic)
  10. Discussed very recently here
  11. I with you Marc! Love the 60 for out and the 50 for in
  12. This is the moment I decided to go wireless to camera. Notice the frozen loom! -30C
  13. Looks like a great option for doco. Yep, I think I'll get one!
  14. I forgot - Going inside to warm air conditioned interiors from the freezing temperatures will cause metallic equipment to gather a layer of ice. Make sure you have a cloth handy to wipe down gear.
  15. Hi Bronson, I did a 2 month shoot in Mongolia a few years back. It got to -30 C (-22 F) I didn't have any problems with equipment. Lectro block 26 Radio Mics worked fine, although the batteries did seem to die quicker. These were however batteries bought in UB, and not rechargeables. Go lithium. My NP-1s seemed to hold up fine. Cables did get frozen. Note my avatar photo - headphone cables frozen solid! Still worked. I was using a Fostex PD-6, and it didn't miss a beat. It was so cold the TC numbers were lagging on the LCD screen, but did not drop a file all shoot. SD should be fine, but have not used in those temperatures. You will get really cold. Make sure your feet are warm, this was my major issue. Enjoy the shoot. Its an amazing country! Steve
  16. Hmmm.... Still couldn't get Alexa to read EXT TC. Tried everything but no luck. The AC was out of ideas too. So ended up setting 24hour on the Alexa and jamming on my end. No further problems, but makes me think camera issue?? Can almost rule out operator error (thanks senator......), but you never know. Other than that, great camera to work with.
  17. Just did an Alexa shoot today and couldn't get the camera to read my TC (ambient lock it). Wouldn't read Ext TC at all. Any Ideas???
  18. Thanks for that Mark. Hard to see from the photos if there is anything that needs access on the top.
  19. About to do my first Alexa shoot next week. I'll send an audio scratch wireless via a Sennheiser G2 (getting a 5 pin xlr - 3.5mm made up). Has anyone had luck finding space to mount a receiver on the Alexa? Is there a cold shoe mount? Velcro on the side maybe?? Cheers
  20. A few months ago I worked on a doco with the Epic. I jammed TC from my recorder to the Epic with my Ambient ACL203 Lockit. Worked well, even with battery changes, reboots etc. I jammed again after lunch, otherwise there was a slight drift over a 10 hour day.
  21. I've had mixed experiences with the Epic. I recently did a run 'n gun doco - shot on Epic. I was sceptical but it worked surprisingly well. TC jammed thru Ambient Lock It ( held quite well, just re jammed after lunch) and scratch mix sent thru sennheiser wireless (mini jack in). I've had other shoots that have been fine too. I find sending audio thru the sennheiser works really well, untill..... the other day cam dept. had the new XLR attachment. Everything was going fine until after lunch the camera kept shutting down. The cam dept weren't sure what it was, so being the first time that camera had audio input, they thought it was that. So no audio input after that!! ( dont know if this was the problem or not, I think the Epic still shat itself with no audio input). Could you imagine if it was sound dept crashing every 10 mins?? Another thing that is annoying is there is no audio when playing back thru Epic. The first time shooting on it I thought I screwed up, levels were bouncing and audio output was on. But later was told audio playback something that will be available in a firmware upgrade?? Anyone hear that? The jet engine effect when in standby is pretty funny. I was holding the roll for a plane going by last week, ( cam cut and went into jet engine mode). The AD , "Is the plane gone yet ?" Me "Ummmmmmm..."
  22. "The Shining" Amazing soundtrack! Also the opening title sequence from "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" - the camera shutter, flash sound is brilliant.
