  1. I have been very happy with the MKH 50, I've used it mainly indoors but I had it outside for 3 days in a full rycote blimp and it was superb...on a boat and no worries JHW
  2. When its raining outside and you have to be in it...the petrol poncho works. Who cares what you look like, that poncho gets it done...even has 2 hand hles to get inside to the mixer. I always have i with my Pelican case!!! JHW
  3. A good series of articles from 2008, Ken Stone "As I Hear It." He documents 6 or so mics, womens' voice, mans' voice, on axis, off axis, pretty informative. It led me on the quest for the mkh 416 and mkh 50.Google it I think you will enjoy the read. Best JHW
  4. I use IDX np 1s' and the PSC pro star mini, no issues and decent price point. Agree with all the above comments, I was in TV News for a PBS station for 29yrs and saw cheap batteries.. and they did blow up, not every one, but if they didn't you would have memory issues (ni cad) or half life issues (lithium ion). Never had an issue with anton bauer/IDX,... others brands... IMHO....you are rolling the dice! JHW
  5. Toy, looks like they are on to something...used the porta brace x strap for years, as the gear got heavier I went to the versa flex, alot of strain taken off neck amd shoulders by adding lower snaps...I'll bet this waist strap takes it to the next level....anyone tested it yet? JHW
  6. I recently had a request for a time code enrypted record of an interview. I told the client that I did not have this tool. She came with a zoom recorder and we jammed tc with a pad and an audio out. She was satisfied and sent it to a transription house. I have heard from other mixers that the zoom is ok but a zaxcom zfr100/2--/300 would be a better choice. Are any of you using either th zax or the zoom and what are your impessions of each? JHW
  7. To follow up on the little Zax, how do you get time code to match camera? Is it a cable or do you jam it,and you send an audio mix from l/r out to the recorder? JHW
  8. IMHO, PSC is one of the best in the industry along with Lecrosonic when it comes to customer service! JHW

    Advice/thoughts?

Thanks for the suggestions....I think I will rent a zoom slave tc to it and 2nd camera and send 2 channel wireless feed from my mixer to main camera...doing the double system allows me not to worry if sound gets screwed up into camera and I cannot monitor it. I can be safely tethered to a nice seat! JHW
  10. Hello, I have a potential job coming up and was loking for your collective thoughts. It involes 2 cameras , 2 boats, and 2 channel lav audio and boom. I have a PSC pro mix 6, Lectro 401s' and Lectro smvs', and a blimp and 416. I know I can slave the time code of the 2 cams to match and feed the main cam the 2-3 channels panned l/r and leave the 2nd cam on its shotgun for a potential 4th channel....or I can use the 2nd set of outputs of my PSC and sony uwp wireless recievers/trannies to feed the 2nd camera. What way in your collective opinions would be the best way to go? Thanks JHW
  11. Here is my humble bag: PSC Pro Mix 6, 2 Lectro 401s' with SMA lav packs/tram mics, Lectro HM, Sennhiser 416, NP-1 PSC cup tp PSC Mini Star to power the Lectros and Sony 7505s' total weight 11 lbs, total cost.....it took qiite a few jobs to pay for itself!! JHWhilly and mixer 056.JPG ]
