Has anyone used the Pre-D to feed the stereo tracks 7&8 on the DR-680? My 680 sees the Pre-D aes on digital inputs 5&6 but will lock but not pass audio for tracks 7&8. Thanks.

The quality of the SD mic pre amps will surpass those of the Tascam and many other recorders. The limiter will also out perform the 680. I own the DR680 and multiple SD recorders and mixers. There is no comparison. If you go with the Mix Pre-D you can feed the 680 a digital stream that is pure audio from the Pre-D. If you ultimately add wireless gear, you can feed those line level to the 680.
