  1. I tried another test with my main laptop, one which had the W10 error reading/copying WAV Files. I un-installed every programme and app that could possibly be related to this problem, and then re-installed W10 as an inplace upgrade. Now the WAV file problem is not presenting; I could copy from external CF and then open that file in Wave Agent. It would seem that one of those programmes was the cause of the problem.... and I'm happy I didn't have to do a clean install!
  2. Thank you Jeff for summing up the situation; especially your explanation as to fixing the corrupt files. I have rolled back my main laptop to Windows 8.1. I can now happily copy WAV files from external USB media! As an experiment I installed Windows 10, as an upgrade, on another laptop; in the same way as I upgraded my main laptop. I experienced the same problems when trying to copy WAV files and corruption of WAV files. I then re-installed W10 on the same machine, this time as a clean install . Interestingly I can now work with WAV files as you should be able...... Something must be going wrong with the in-place upgrade.... I will mention that a clean install seems to work on the Sound Devices FaceBook page - tho I certainly wouldn't be recommending it as part of your daily workflow :-)
  3. I made the mistake of "upgrading " to W10 and now I can't work with my rushes; luckily I have an old W7 machine so I have a work around. Pls keep us posted here if anyone finds a solution
  4. Ask the general who fell asleep during on of the SL speeches
  5. Mics on the table (low profile CUB style) pick up a lot of "table" noise. Adults struggle to remember to the mics are there. If it's the only way then it's preferable to hanging mics that would have to be rigged way to high to sound acceptable. Is booming out of consideration?
  6. Could I suggest that if you are concerned about the security of your rushes (sound or picture) why not store them on an encrypted drive? Its already here and could be part of your work flow. If it's big brother govment you're worried about bear in mind that any encryption you use is probably already open to their intelligence agencies: those rights were given away long ago
  7. I would recommend a timecode display (or a TC slate if you see a use for it down the track) - if you set TC on the 5D - then shoot the TC display every 3-4 hrs. Post will then be able to calculate the offset between the camera and your recorder. This shouldn't drift too much and if you do it 3-4 times a day you should be sweet. Last 5D doco I did post preferred this system - tho they did get on board with Plural Eyes and loved that too. Travel light if you can.
  8. There is a great production still from this film with (from memory from my film school years....) what looked like a studio boom (not a Fischer) mounted on the back of a flat bed truck. If I can find it I'll post it. Also remember David Lean thinking the desert wasn't "white" enough - for the scene where Omar's character is introduced, appearing over the rise - he got the art dept painters to paint all the brown rocks in the wide shot white!
  9. Hi janz Can you tell me what the weight of the antenna is - without packaging?
  10. I see the benefit of this if you're using it on a camera, just find it odd there isn't a "version " with the display in a bag friendly orientation
  11. Really unfortunate the display is on front and not the top - rules it out as a replacement for the 411 in the bag. Not sure I understand the decision for this, I'd like to hear from Lectro as to why this was made
  12. Unless that's what the director wants. It's his/her story that is being told. Maybe he wants the audience to work to hear what's being said at that point - or maybe the words aren't really that important b
  13. Prep'ing the carnet is a pia - get the prod co to do it - and pay for it - certainly not worth a paid prep day
  14. Nir, my vote is for PSC - as the splitter and amp is "all in one" there are less interconnects. I was an early adopter and Ron was great to deal with to sort the teething problems. The Lectro solution is great too but less tidy in the bag.
  15. Jason, I would email AudioRoot direct first to get their price - will be faster delivery.
  16. I prefer locking connectors but DSLRs don't have any so if that's where your at then maybe it's so big an issue
  17. Constantin - absolutely with you - for me everyday is a different day I could be charging full rate for my services and equipment. My overheads aren't less over 8 weeks than for a single day, so what I charge shouldn't be.
  18. You can still complete a carnet for non carnet countries - so you can carnet out (and back in) of your home country - and maybe Brazil guys will stamp it to fill in their time! A local fixer is a great idea too
  19. Good idea to carry a copy of the regulations covering what is and isn't allowed so you can show present it if the uniforms at the airport say you can't carry your batts on board. The confusion usually comes from a imprecise understanding of the rules at a regional airport.
  20. Based on specs solely looking at the Rx line level is king - the reality of what is down stream determines how you slice it, and in the mix it would be very hard to tell the difference. +5 line on the 788; -25 to -20 mic on the 633 inputs 1-3; inputs 4-6 on 633 +5 and max menu gain on 633. What ever works for you.
  21. I understand the line setting gain structure thing - but with SD 633 you really need to run the Rx at mic level to have enough oomph. That's the problem with inputs 4-6
  22. Hi Pete Checkout the CASA flyer: http://www.casa.gov.au/wcmswr/_assets/main/dg/luggage/brochure.pdf In summary - always carry on & up to 100WHrs MAX There seems to be no limit as to the number of these batteries you can carry on board tho the max carry on weight may come into play.
  23. Hmmm - I'm in Australia and there's no local rep. Some of their gear is up on eBay - but not the power gear ATM.
  24. Better to do the right thing and carry them on - imagine how embracing it would be for the airline to X-ray your cases and find them. Your name is called after you have boarded the flight. You then delay take off while you get your lithium batts out and do a walk of shame back on to the full aircraft with the other passengers blaming you for their delay. This happens.....
