  1. +1 At the risk of being controversial I think the 788 sounds better than the 6xx. But the 6xx is lighter and more power efficient.
  2. Yes Phil, mic pres would be nice and solve the problem. The size is convenient so I guess that is what drove not having them. Limiting at the transmitter isn't suitable as I don't like the sound of that. It was an issue on one series ; the post dept specifically asked for the ISO levels to be higher. And then you risked clipping. Also, not super happy about ISO levels not being consist across all the tracks. Sorry if I offended any one with my "more professional" comment. Of course SD make professional gear, just don't really understand the thinking behind what was done at the design stage.
  3. Yep, Im on peak metering. Been that way since before I got my first 442. And yes the "solution" is to under record the ISO tracks. Back to my initial post, I would have preferred to pay more for each unit and have hardware limiters on 4-6/7-12, so that all tracks are equal. I can understand that maybe other users don't see this being that important.
  4. I have noticed this on both my 633 and 688. Kind of makes those inputs unusable. I would have preferred to pay a bit more to buy and a more professional unit.
  5. Good point Rado. The F5/F55 is better than some in keeping sync. The current fashion is to "go off speed" for transitional elements and this throws the F5 timecode out, with reference to the sound recorder. I now have a Lockit on the camera as a general bit of kit; it saves on the aggravation to the cameraperson and myself that otherwise is needed with the need to rejam after each trip off sync speed.
  6. To confirm the firmware needs to be 6.5.1 or higher to input LTC on the BNC, even though the 6.5 manual says that will take LTC. Had this very issue a few weeks ago - had the camera ops telling me timecode is your (sound) problem so please sort it out!
  7. F5/55 are computers with a lens on the front. As mentioned going off speed drops out the audio and timecode, sometimes the camera needs "rebooting" or power cycling is some functions don't reappear. That's why I consider the audio on the camera is an editorial scratch track with production sound being recorded separately. That way I can concentrate on recording sound not on getting my sound to the camera.
  8. Like the hair, Jeff! Age doesn't seem to be an issue if it isn't creating a problem. If you enjoy it and the calls keep coming why not.
  9. What a year it has been.... And it's not yet half over
  10. The airlines war on batteries is certainly ramping up. The best place to check online current state of play in your country, and where you are travelling to, is your national Civil Aviation Authority. Here in Australia it's CASA. From their website it's pretty clear: Batteries under 100Wh rating The batteries that power your phone, laptop and camera are usually under the 100 watt-hour (Wh) rating. If you're carrying a spare battery that's not in one of these devices, it must be in your carry-on baggage only. Spare batteries, regardless of their size are not to be carried in checked luggage. Lithium Ion batteries 100-160Wh rating These are more powerful batteries, and can be found in industrial equipment such as power tools and mobility aids between 100 and 160Wh. You must have approval from your airline before flying. If the battery is installed in a device, it can be carried in either checked or carry-on baggage. If the battery is a spare - that is, the battery is by itself and not contained in equipment - it must be in your carry-on baggage only. Spare batteries, regardless of their size are not to be carried in checked luggage. There is a limit of two spare batteries per person. These batteries must only be packed in carry-on luggage and should have their terminals individually protected to minimise the risk of contact other metal objects in your luggage. I would think most of our batteries would be less than 100Wh so it's a matter of taping the contacts and taking them as carry on. This unfortunately includes 9v rechargeables to so they have to go as hand luggage as well. CASA has a handy pdf of their what can fly and hazardous items brochure. I usually have a copy with me to show check in staff if needed. Also worth remembering that apart from CASA it's at the airlines discretion as to what can and can't travel on a particular flight. Best charming behaviour is always handy when checking in (and elsewhere) at the airport.
  11. I use Lectro for my IFBs so not really an issue.
  12. I'm looking at Zaxcom camera link options and was wondering if the TRXLA2 (http://www.pro-sound.com/p/zaxcom-trxla2-transmitter.html) Stereo version is suitable as the Tx for a camera link (hop) rather than the TRX900CL? For mine the benefits are wideband and comact size. Cheers
  13. No, constantin, like the 411a or the wisycom (display on the top). Happy with 3 blocks. Of course more is better but I understand the difficulty of doing this. Dual Rx in 411a form factor would really be the business
  14. Wide band Rx and Tx from Lectrosonics
  15. Tried the older version of the neutrik plug and there is no real difference. I have rotated the plug on the header 180 degrees and now the locking lug is at the top, so the HM doesn't really sag.
  16. Hmmm. I have the new neutrik so will swap it out when I get a minute
  17. Thanks for your tips, Larry. I'm currently using it with a short header cable so check if it is any different with a new header cable.
  18. But then you don't know when the timecode has reset (at least until you power on). Nice that SD has a solution if it does bother you :-)
  19. My lectro HM tx isn't as tight as it once was (like most things) connecting to whatever mic I use. Does anyone have tips on "tightening " the locking mechanism that can be done in the field?

  21. Does anyone know if the BBC still requires stereo elements in deliverables to be recorded in MS? I found this on their tech page which leads me to believe it still is: "Stereo programmes must be recorded so as to be compatible for listeners in mono. In general signals should be in phase between channels. The S (difference) signal should rarely exceed the M (sum) signal (otherwise cancellation can result when the signal is heard in mono)."
  22. Yes Rado. Who knows. I had success with clean install until I rebooted and then same problem. At at least it's on Microsoft s radar now so hopefully there will be a solution sometime soon.
  23. Last I heard SR wideband may not have two receivers
