  1. Yes Senator... Funny it's in the name. But I can tell you that I see more "Venue systemss" on Carts then VR because of the 19" rack mountability so.... Thanks senator for another snarky and uninformative post. B
  2. You make a good point Ed. I always have that "if I need it" factor with the field. Guarantee if I buy the VR I'll never take it off the cart. If I buy the rackmount venue, the next day I'll have to use it off the cart...
  3. Looking at keeping the same blocks on two of my lectros. I currently own 2 smqv/411a systems on block 21 and 23. I have two um400a/411 systems on block 29. My other 411 just sold. I would like to go all smqv because I love them and the variable power is a must for me. I would not transition the block 29 to the venue because I would like to keep them in the bag or for secondary backup. I don't know the availability of getting 29 here in Canada. i love that block...
  4. Hey guys, Looking to make the plunge into Lectrosonics venue world and was wondering about some opinions on both the VR Field and the venue. I like the fact that the Venue is 19" rack mount but do appreciate the fact that if I "ever" need to get it of the cart and power it the VR Field is ready to go. I'm sure it's been discussed before but looking for real world experience and mostly looking for major pluses or minuses of both because of user experience. I currently run cantar in a bag with 5 411's but I want to streamline the cart. getting a lot more cart based work and I would like to have both a bag system and a cart system that i can share a few transmitters with. Thanks for your time. Brian Hanish
  5. Thanks everyone. I'll look into all the available options!!
  6. Where do I find them and who makes them?
  7. Hey Everyone, Every once in a while I come across a job where I have to wear a helment or a hardhat. I always curse that because I cannot put on my HD-25's properly. Can anyone please recommend a very good Earbud solution. I don't want cheap style, I would like to use them exclusively for High End Monitoring on Location. Suggestions? Thanks for your time guys. Love the forum here. Looking for solutions here. Brian
  8. Ipowers. I still have some from 4 years ago that are still in use. Fantastic value!!
  9. Hey guys, Im using Cantar plus written notes. I always do written notes but the PDF is laid out so well I think they are defaulting to them. Since a lot more synching is happening in my world (5d, Alexa,Red) the information on numbers, where the slate happened (Cantar can mark that point also) and every other piece of information is needed is all there. PDF is such a great format because it's so widely used. Brian H
  10. Hey Jeff thanks, I just have a bunch of half used ones from the hop and thought it would be a great Idea just to put them in the slate, rather than having them just sit there unused. Thanks Jeff, and I hope all is well. Brian.
  11. Thanks dude! I have had production call me before about this...
  12. Just thought I would ask if I could put lithium aa Batteries in my Deneke TS-C timecode slate. I have a bunch that came out of my Zaxcom hop. Some I had to take out half way thru there life, so why not put them in the slate? Thanks everyone. Brian.
  13. Hey all, I have been asked to record audio to the 5D Mark II. I have a mixer friend making up a cable for me and I will be testing the rig tomorrow. I have downloaded the manual but I think it's old. Can anyone give me some instructions on gain settings, how to achieve those settings, or just point me to a very current manual that has details about the external audio settings? Thanks for anyone who has the patience to lend a hand. Please no responses about double system, it's what the client wants right now, not what I want. Thanks Brian
  14. I have not been successful in jamming my SB-2a to A Ex-3. I've followed instructions in the manual, talked to other sound mixers, tried to different cables that I know work. Nothing.... Something Im missing. I am feeding it my wireless Zaxcom so all is well with Audio getting to the Camera. Might be the Camera I guess? Stumped Brian H
  15. Interesting comments from all. For me multi tracking and doing a mono mix is the best solution without any headaches. I own a Cantar so doing it is a dream. I always split all the tracks to iso's but deliver a Mono Mix on tracks one and two. For me it's a no brainer. They have my mix, so if they like it all the way thru, they can use it. If they have to remix some of the dialogue for any reason, they can do so at their discretion. It's that simple. It helps me to work that way because I am never afraid of experimenting a little, and if I make a mistake, it's fixable. 2 cents Brian Hanish
  16. Thanks Ao, Sorry I never got back to you about the ramp. I bought a foldable ramp for wheel chairs. It works great for me. I wish I had the cash for a chinda, but ASC put a nice cart together for me. See ya round. Brian Hanish Cantar #141
  17. Thanks Robert for the info. I know its going to be warm dude!!! I only have so much I can pack in suitcase so.... Deet is on my list. I will also be in Alabama. Ill try to post some pics while I'm there. B
  18. I am bringing it all for sure, but I have not been down there in a while so... I'll do a scan and see what happens. And ya, I'm jumping on the BP wagon with 29 for sure! All kidding aside it's gonna be an eye opener. I have mixed emotions about going down there. Tragedy... B
  19. Less of a Backup, More of a secondary option if I want to keep it out of harms way. Like like my gear slick! Nice one. B
  20. Hey All, Just heading down To N.O and Texas to cover the oil spill. I will be taking Block 21, 25 and shhhhhh 29? Am I wrong to take the 29. Can anyone with reliable info tell me about the situation there with all the crews there. Taking Cantar and a backup 302 with Zax stereo hop with recording option. Thanks everyone. The info would be very valuable for a Canuk! B
  21. Vin, Thanks dude. Only when I start using the cart may I start to comment on the results. Generally the Lectros are always reliable and I am always accepting of the fact that RF can be weird. I think the lesson for all is to use the best equipment that you can, put yourself in a position to get the best reception and record away. Vin, always nice to hear ya. I am going down South to cover the oil spill with Discovery Canada. I will send some pics of my trip, then the finished Cart based around the Cantar. B
  22. Hey Vin, I stand corrected. I should have said that height in my opinion, outweighs the width. If I could have one or the other I would take height over width. My Antenna bar is only 35 cm wide so in a pinch I can always take one off and move it to the other side to another free standing boom pole. The limited with of my bar helps me be more mobile, keeps in compact and lighter weight, although not by much. I have boomed for guys who use this configuration and we never got into range issues. Thanks We all know that wireless can be a little bit weird at times. I know my testing is initially to test cables and overall performance. Getting on a set is always a different story but I am confident of my particular setup. B
  23. Hey Zack, I started a thread a little while ago about who is using what antennas, mounting and placement. Check it out, it gave me some ideas about what I wanted to do. I am just finishing up the cart with 411's Lectro umc-16b antenna distribution, 2 x Alp700a's and sna 600 with 216 adapter kit for the comtek transmitters. All of these are mounted on one bar with the ability to mount on any boom pole I own with the Ambient quick pole release. Inatial testing done with the comtek is impressive. I hooked up a mic to Cantar with some music playing and I went for a walk... a really long walk. So far so good. I will be testing the lectros when I get back. In my experience, it's always been line of sight, and height of the antennas, not width. Thanks all 2 cents B
  24. Hey Richard, Looks like I'm gonna go that route. Those sna 600 can also double up as a backup for the Lectro alp 700a's that I have. looks really clean, all the antennas up in the air where they should be, and I should gain some distance with the comteks. Im gonna put a little something to clip the Zaxcom remote antenna for the two channel transmiter, and all should be well I can show some pics next week. Nice thread everyone, and I thank all that sent in photos for me to look at. The sharing of this information is invaluable. Brian H
