  1. Nice Richard!!! clean, very clean. Seems like you have a little snake made for all the bnc.... Did you do the conversion kit for the Sna600's? I had a thought of doing that. Is there a big difference. I think it would, since your getting about 3 to 6 db of gain on the transmission and obviously they are nicely in the air. I would have room for them. You happy with the range? Is there a huge difference?
  2. Wow, you got lots in there. Thanks for the breakdown. Im just finishing my cart up now so I'll post some pictures when I get a chance next week.
  3. Thanks everyone for there input, lot's of valuable info. I ended up ordering this: http://www.k-m.de/en/products/category/additional-tracks-2/mode/productview/product/23600-300-55/new/0/pointer/1/?no_cache=1&hidesndlevel=0&tx_hacatalogue_pi1[searchfor]=bar Hope the link works. Everything I have to mount is 3/8. This bar has 4 positions, plus the centre hole is also 3/8 which will fit the male end of a ambient quick release just fine. My lectro ALP 700a is also 3/8. This is exactly what I was looking for. No building or making stuff (Im not really good at that). Just screw it in and go! Thanks. I will be posting finished pictures of the Sound Cart Next week. Thanks again. B
  4. Yes I know Bob that he means well but it's not informational. If you read you can see that I asked for specific information. That's all. I appreciate the advice though. rpsharman: love it!! really nice. I was thinking of something like this in my brain!! Thanks for the pics everyone. Gonna talk to my local shop here in T.O and will let you know what I have come up with.
  5. Just looking for suggestions, not a speech from my mom in grade 2. I am being sarcastic for a reason. Serious replies only please. Just looking for pointers. B
  6. Whenever you can Bob! Thanks for the quick response!
  7. Hey all, Just needed some advice. I have two ALP 700a purchased used from a mixing friend. just wondering what you guys have for a low cost mounting option. I have all my booms fitted with The ambient quick locks so having this incorporated would be the best for me. Is there anything out there pre made and sold by any of our favorite manufacturers? Idea? Thanks for the input. Brian
  8. Nice and simple man, I love it!
  9. Wow. No stairs for you. Seems like a lot of boxes and patch bays. What exactly is the signal path for you. You are pre amplifying with the grey and blue box, then splitting the signal. Can't you send mix to the 744t with the Metric Halo? I am just finishing my cart and I am a minimalist, so just wondering how your using all the boxes. Just curious. Great work, it looks nice! B
  10. Really neat! Very curious also. Keep us posted Jeff, and thanks a lot!
  11. Thanks a lot guys. I just wanted to see who was doing what. Im gonna check out this roll a ramp and go from there. All your input is very much welcomed! Pics, Pics!! B
  12. Thanks guys. I had a look at both and they seem pretty nice. Jim I like the fact that the one that you have can become a single entity with the hinges and they fold in half. It makes it a bit easier to store I would imagine. I have a Chrysler Town and Country (Hoping that it lasts for a while!!) so some pics would be great. I wanted to know specifically what work you had to do to accommodate the lower door mount I was looking at this http://www.rollaramp.com/products.html. I am going to check it this week at a local supplier. I would get the 26 inch model and have it be 4 feet. Well see about price, but it rolls up which is a nice feature. 21 lbs is pretty light considering. Thanks again everyone! Brian Hanish Rebel Recordings
  13. Hey all, Just putting some final touches on the new sound cart (Pics to follow) I am wondering what our you guys doing for ramps to get into your vehicles. I went online and found some cool roll up ramps and stuff. Just thought I would ask around. Now, I would like to hear about rolling the cart in as a single entity. I know some of you use modular systems so you can pack it away in pieces. I am going to have it stay as one piece (except for the Cantar coming off). I would love some suggestions, or maybe a couple of pics. The cart is no use to me if I cannot get it into a van by myself. Brian H Rebel Recordings
  14. Thanks for all who chimed in for me. I have the Zaxcom unit being modified with a polyfuse on the power input. Just in case.... I went well with the job and I ended up finishing the day plugged into REd. Thanks for all the advice. B
  15. Does not say anything about the voltage going over 17V, but it does say current (amps) Could anyone else chime in? Thanks.
  16. It's not a timecode issue, its a powering issue. I don't want to fry the unit. The power output on the red is 12v UNREGULATED. It has the potential to damage my unit? I would think so. Batteries are expensive and I don't have rechargeable batteries yet
  17. Hi all, Has anyone heard of frying their Rx900s Receiver with the 12v out on the Red? This output is unregulated and seems to me that if the receiver got to much juice it could cause major damage. Glenn from Zax do you have an answer? Will it damage the unit. Second question is how is the runtime on the aa Lithiums. I know someone who has modified the zax unit so it shuts down if it sees to much voltage. I have a job on monday that requires me to use it and I would like to avoid using batteries if possible. Thanks you, and I look forward to all the input. Brian
  18. Hey Vin, I bought it in Vancouver because I was running into a lot of rain on one of my Doc series. It works great. I have never had to use anything else so this is my only point of reference for this type of product. It has a fair amount of wind protection too so it was very useful in light wind and fairly heavy rain. I recommend it highly for any professionals kit. It's one of those Items that does not get used a lot, but your sure happy to have it once you need it. 2 cents. B
  19. Thanks guys, I appreciate all the information. Big Help. Vin, lemme know how your testing goes. Brian Hanish
  20. Thank you Jim. I appreciate the links. Hey Vin, Can you comment on what works best with cantar. What cards and reader writer are you using. You can contact me off list if you like. I would like to start using this for over the shoulder work as a safety. You never know..... Brian Hanish
  21. I think Reberto uses a Firewire to Compact flash adapter with the Cantar. I think it exists? Anyone can comment. Firewire to Compact Flash.
  22. Yes Yes I like those names!! Now someone has a sense of humour!! Way to go Marc! B
  23. Hey Jeff, "Cantarist" is just a fun little word someone came up with on the user group. My skill, experience, creativity and professionalism are not tied to a piece of equipment I may be using. I don't promote myself with this word. I promote myself with all of the above mentioned adjectives that came from your post. Sensitive..... B
  24. Hey guys, I own a cantar, and yeah sometimes we get behind a little. Here's the thing for me. It may be different in television series where they want break offs right away, but for a commercial it's usually done at lunch. This is where I catch up. You must be doing some long takes and a lot of tracks to be that far behind. I usually find that by the time I pack up a few items, get some time sheets done, I'm ready to burn. If production is on your back, donate your time for the burning. I know we should be on the clock but if your work is suffering from it, it's a small price to pay. Good suggestion was made to make a disk at lunch then your burn time will be cut in half. Burn a Dvd-r and just use the idle store function. This is what I do on long term doc stuff. I poly rotate 2, and Idle store. When I get back to the hotel or my house, I burn a dvd-r (which goes way faster than a dvd-ram) I hop in the shower, and voila. On the last production the camera assistant came over with his lacie drive, and I would dump straight from the Cantar. No fuss. I suggest as Cantarist that we campaign for continuous burn, while recording. This way we can stay ahead. By the way Jeff, what do you guys usually do with Deva? Burn all the time, or Burn when not recording. I actually hate the poly-rotate that happens with Cantar. This is the only reason that it takes as long as it does. Mono...Mono... B
  25. Hey guys, Jeff I know you have to compare it to something, and the Deva is the obvious choice. There is no denying that Zaxcom has blazed the path for the Non linear digital recorder. I think that the way the two manufacturers approach their machines is totally different, night and day, therefore the people that use them respectively might have a different approach to the machine they would be comfortable with. We all have clothes that we wear, we just have different clothing that suits our taste. Sometimes we think our wordrobe is better than others....because we paid good money for it and we own it:) As to the line inputs: You are correct. It basically evens out everyone because your preamp is now the wireless input that you prefer(Lectro, Zax, Micron,Audio Ltd). I would guess that you and Richard have a mixing console before going into the Deva. I know you have a cooper, and Richard might have one to, I don't know. I don't have a mixer. I am a much younger mixer that has embraced the compact nature of the recorder/control surface era recently. I only use wireless booms when I have to. My work is not in feature Films but in Commercials, Docs, and television. I hard wire most of the time. I mix right on the cantar, not even with Cantar-em. This is where I am coming from. I used the Deva over the shoulder and it was the wrong tool for the job. This is where my comment comes from. I am a mixer that relies on the microphone inputs 99% of the time. This is why I see a big difference, and I have the experience with both machines in the same environment to prove it. That's all I was saying. Richard, I was not laughing at you, I was simply amused by the comment. I hope your not offended and if you where I apologize. It just seemed funny to me at the time. It was the comment about how it only turned one way... it just put a smile on my face, that's all. I know Deva owners love the touchscreen, but I was reflecting on my only experience with Deva. I love the Screen too!! It's beautiful to look at when mixing. Richard again, I hope your not offended by the term "folks that roam around here" I should have said "active posters" or "The mixing community" Yet again I apologize if I used the wrong language. I am going out on limb here to speak for the Cantar community... about the Screen. "It's the touch screen of the Deva that I really enjoy. I find it interesting that some Cantar fans embrace the iPhone and love it's touch screen but dislike the Deva?" Brian, I'm not sure if you are an iPhone user but perhaps you could answer that question for us "folks that roam around here." I would think that the mixers who own Cantar don't dislike the Deva for the Screen. We all know that mixers around the world always have different experiences with the Recorders that they use than others do. Some mixers fall in love right away, and never look back. Some blame the manufacturers support for their choices. The list goes on and on, but one thing is for sure, for me, it's not the touchscreen that I dislike. Hope that answers all that has been asked. By the way, I am enjoying this discussion a lot. Thanks for the Forum Jeff, I really enjoy the freedom of information here. Brian Hanish
