  1. I've had very good results with the AT875r as a cheap but decent sounding lightweight camera shotgun. It's smaller, more rugged, and I think better sounding then the Rode ones. And its pickup pattern seems to be just right and versatile for most guerrilla doc camera-mic-is-the-only-option scenarios. Narrow enough to get a decent sounding interview with a single person directly in front of camera. But wide enough to decently capture a whole room, group of people, or some sort of event or ambience. I don't think putting an expensive mic on the camera is worth the risk vs. sound quality gained. It's on the dang camera anyway so it's never going to sound great. It feels much better putting a $160 mic on the camera that still sounds decent.
  2. Very interested in these Tekkeons. Seems like a great alternative cheaper option with a lot of versatility. You can even attach a small solar panel to it for charging while on EXT shoots! Curious whether you got the mp3450 or the mp3450i. The i seems to be more designed for high end equipment as you can set it to maintain a specific voltage with dip switches. But the regular has a voltage setting as well, but says something about how it resets to the lowest voltage every time you plug it in. Just wondering which model you use or suggest to get. I'd rather go with the regular because it comes with more adapters and is cheaper, but am concerned whether it will work properly. I will be using this in a bag to power a nomad as well. Maybe some wireless too eventually, but just the nomad for now.
