  1. Years ago, I ended up with several LittleLites with bad BNC connectors on them. I had some Cannon 4 pins left over from the "old days" and I found that they fit the goosenecks perfectly. I wired them pin1 = - / pin 4 = + and I've been using them for about 15 years.
  2. JVC headset cables are 50" long.
  3. Philip,I've had mine for almost 6 months. The pads are very secure. Here's a few pix I took this evening to show you a little detail.
  4. Here's a link to a previous 'Blooper" thread - http://jwsound.net/SMF/index.php?topic=3647.0 Some interesting background and pictures
  5. I bought 12 JVC HA S150-SN - Headphones - http://www.amazon.com/JVC-HA-S150-SN-Headphones-ear-cup/dp/B001PPY1P4/ref=dp_cp_ob_e_title_1 on sale for $10 each to use with Comtek 72's (they really make the 72's sound much better than any other phones I've tried are and they're very efficient). They fold flat and fit nicely into a sandwich bag. Great colors, too. They might not be as robust as others but they've been holding up for me. Comtek Organization Tip: On larger commercials, I put all my Comteks and Receivers in a compartmentalized shoe bag and hang it from a C stand at video village - http://www.organizeit.com/hangshoebag.asp
  6. On my PC laptop (along with Wave Agent, BWF Pro, and VRpanel/LecNet2), I use Sound Forge and a very concise CD DVD burning utility called Complex Evolution http://www.complexnt.com/index.htm It's a great independent burning tool that's not tied to any recorder or player. Bob Marts
  7. I worked on an episodic where the AD's got into the habit of trying to jump the gun by yelling "Put us on a bell, Bob". Soon the bell and light lost it's authority.
  8. Great for running cables through doorways and for keeping off-camera doors from banging shut. They're made of soft dense foam. Electrics really like them, too. I spotted these at Lowes a couple of years ago and I keep several in my kit. https://www.kidkusion.com/door_mouse_finger_guard.asp Bob
  9. Jeff, The Glen Glenn sound report is actually 14 inches long for some reason (I had to cut out about a third of the lines so I could fit it in my scanner). It's a 3 page form with carbon sheets in between. I've had a stack of 50 of these sealed in cellophane since the 70's I think and I finally cut it open to scan one of them. I also have a stack of Todd AO reports which are nearly identical. Bob
  10. I have a collection of sound reports that I've gathered over the years. Here's one for historical reference:
  11. Al, your post deserves to be on the editorial page of any professional sound, video or media magazine. You've gotten to the essence of this awkward place that production sound people have been put into regarding the ambiguous sound capabilities of the RED and other digital video cameras and the expectations that so many producers, directors and editors have of them. Bob
  12. I came across a website for Camagrip, a French company offering among other products, a very nice line of sound carts. Here is a link: http://www.camagrip.fr/Site%20Camagrip%20English/Produits%20metiers/Produits%20Son.en.htm
  13. I, like most all of you, use adhesive-backed Velcro to temporarily attach things to other things. I've been looking for a pattern or some kind of standard to determine what thing should have the "hook" and what thing should have the "loop". I don't know how many times I've ripped the Velcro off of a screwdriver, Comtek, sync box, transmitter, etc., because the camera, speaker, mixer, etc., has "hook" one time and "loop" the next. My only concern is that the "hook" thing will unintentionally stick to other things besides the corresponding "loop" object. Anybody else ever think about this?
  14. Thanks for posting this, Richard. Not too many like her are left in this world!
  15. I did a documentary job this week with a cameraman using a Canon 5D. I was recording double system with an IFB on the camera. The situation included an exciting morning inside an office complex where all the employees were celebrating a very important event regarding the approval of their medical product. As the cameraman and I weaved our way through the popping corks and high-fives trying to catch the unfolding celebration, we were at first confused why the people when seeing the camera, would stop what they were doing and saying and just stand there with their arms over each others' shoulders and smile at the camera. We finally realized what was up when someone informed us that the flash didn't go off!
  16. Known by some as the Troll-olo song, many wonder WTF?
  17. Yeah, it's a bit dated - (2006) but a lot of good basics are there for general knowledge. I found this chart with regard to tested capacity pretty interesting. Bob
  18. I came across a website - RBR - which provides a lot of good info on rechargable AA batteries and chargers. It features a AA NiMH comparison chart.
  19. One of the classiest parts of the show was James Taylor singing "In My Life". IMHO
  20. Thanks Eric, that's good to know (Denecke is closed on weekends or I would have asked them).
  21. Feb 06 10 Can someone tell the average turnaround time it takes to get a Denecke Slate software upgrade? I need to make a decision today regarding slates for an upcoming project. Thanks
  22. The same camouflage technique was used at the Seattle Boeing plant http://www.taphilo.com/history/WWII/USAAF/Boeing/index.shtml
  23. The playback idea intrigues me as well. I have a story of a frog chorus with the opposite results. I needed to record a wild track of some frogs to match some dialog I'd recorded during which the frogs were croaking at full tilt. I went to the pond's edge with a Nagra and just as I put it into record, for some reason they all stopped croaking after a few seconds. I sat for what seemed like an hour in silence surrounded by quiet frogs. In frustration, I rewound the Nagra to listen to the few seconds that I had recorded to see if maybe there was enough of it to loop into a longer take. As soon as the frogs heard the playback on the Nagra's speaker, they all started croaking again and I quickly flipped the switch into record and was able to get a nice long wild track.
  24. I posted a few pictures a while back of the COS-11 tie hook that I made from a piece of wire clothes hanger. You might find the the original thread useful. Here the link: http://jwsound.net/SMF/index.php?topic=4034.msg28572#msg28572
  25. Thanks for your thoughts on this, Senator. I am able to mix and match as I own a pair each of SNA dipoles shark fin antennas. I use a Venue on my cart and I have antenna options. I guess what I'm curious about is if the use of a combination of directional and omni antennas is a better approach to take in some cases. My conversation with Lectro didn't end with a real definitive answer (except that it could work - 2 are better than 1). I'm only asking because I have seen these antenna setups on some carts.
