  1. Another thing to note, have set the TRX to US mono mode and all seems fine, so not sure what the horrible digital pulsing noise was all about as it's definitely not present any more
  2. Funny that you revived this thread today as a situation has arisen where I'm again using my TRX900AA & DPA as talent mic... I literally just rigged it up in my bag. Did a walk test and was impressed with range. I didn't notice any excess hiss this time, but listening conditions weren't ideal. I can't quite recall what happened the last time as I did end up using that setup for those interviews and had no issues. In fact it was a lovely sounding system if i recall correctly. More than likely it was operator error. Sorry, not much help to your situation. Still using the DPA via microdot to lemo adapter. At this stage the QRX100 is in the bag with 4 x URC411's. Interested to fire it all up and see how everything plays together.
  3. There is no "it depends" this time my friend...
  4. It was in fact one of your dealers that sold me my Zaxcom link knowing full well what my talent blocks were on....
  5. Might be time to try and sell my TRX system...
  6. Yes, I understand Jack's point regarding block separation between Talent Rx & link Tx, but in my experience you can get away with it using an all Lectro setup vs a Lectro/Zaxcom combo in the bag. However, I can't speak of the Zax CL, only of the TRX900AA/STA150 combo. Again, this has been my personal experience, and it may differ for others...
  7. You shouldn't have to pay a cent, this is a known factory fault on all MKH-8060 mics AFAIK and should be fixed at the manufacturers expense...
  8. I'd have to disagree with this statement. I used to use Lectro UCR411a/24 for talent Rx in the bag with Zaxcom TRX900AA/STA150 in block 25. Horrible spray all over my B24 talent Rx. Now I use 2 x block 24 Lectro UM400a & SRb as my hop system, no spray at all over my B24 talent Rx and no other issues to speak of.
  9. Got my 8060 back from Germany the other day... It's back on my pole and I'm loving it. Had the 416 on for the last couple of months and it's so nice having a lighter mic on the boom again. Took quite a while, a couple of months for the round trip to the mothership.
  10. I've experienced the same issues as you have and the way I fixed it was; 1) Don't cut power to the 552 when the yellow LED is still on 2) Don't go into record when the yellow LED is still on Simples. ;-)
  11. John, of course I know that there is no "best" mic, but thought it might be fun to know if you could only have one, which would it be... Your desert island mic, so to speak And then of course we'd have the definitive answer for all the production newbies who ask about the "best" mic
  12. Maybe we should have a poll to determine once and for all what actually is the "Best" mic... then there can be no more arguments
  13. This bag looks great, well done Dave & the K-Tek team. My only criticism would be lack of space in the front pouch for all the extra 'bits'. Tx, lavs, batts etc... There never seems to be enough room and that goes for all the bags I've used
  14. As the notorious one says, it depends. On smaller TV series I always carry a couple of decent Motorolla 2 way radios in my kit and can charge a small amount if they are used. Normally used when doing car/driving shots etc.
  15. I'd strongly disagree regarding lack of tactile confirmation with the joystick. It moves in 5 ways. Up is record, and there is a beep in the headphones to confirm. I don't even have to look anymore, I know where the joystick is, move my hand to find it and press upwards. I've been using my 552 solidly, (15 - 20 days per month) for the last 4 years and it has been flawless, including the joystick. I'm surprised the joystick is a "sticking point" for some ;-)
  16. Looks amazing. Spot on. Well done to the team at Sound Devices!
  17. When they first came out I bought a couple for my SRa which was permanently in the slot of an XDCam, and within a few weeks one of the antenna's centre pin came loose and the antenna broke... Cameraman had a habit of holding the camera under his arm like a football.
