  1. Hmm. this is actually turning into a rate discussion. Interesting. It's water over the dam, but were there similar concerns when smart slates and comteks were forced down the throats of the sound department?
  2. Jeff, Thanks. Yes, as we discussed, abuse is likely, but I'm thinking that those folks you mention may not be able to afford the DNS 2. I did have a talk with one of my consultation clients recently about a big noisy transformer mounted high on a wall in an area that they liked for location. I told her that it wasn't a noise problem, it was a location problem. She took it to heart and convinced her client that it was not in their best interest. They went with her recommendation and chose another location. Yay! Regards, Ty PS: Having Jim Gilchrist, Len Schmitz, Jonathan Cohen and Bernie Ozol here for the testing was very special for me. Good guys with great ears and no egos. I may try to rope them in for other location sound reviews.
  3. Hey, Pretty expensive, but very impressive. Here's my review. http://tyfordaudiovideo.blogspot.com/2016/08/the-cedar-dns-2-portable-dialog-noise.html Regards, Ty Ford

  5. hello, this is a test.
  6. Got a story? http://www.tvtechnology.com/news/0002/eh-fcc-seeks-noise-floor/278840
  7. what's their hourly rate? 24 interns!!!!! George worked out of Studio C for a while. Bizarre wall.
  8. Yeah, Scott Boland sent me one some years back and I was surprised that it actually did such a great job. Not blocking those back ports does make a difference. When outside, I use a Rode Dead Kitty over the B5D. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/470272-REG/Rode_DEAD_KITTEN_Dead_Kitten_WindMuff_for.html/BI/8631/KBID/9745 Regards, Ty Ford
  9. Thank you! Equal - as far as Bernie and I could determine. Ty
  10. Thanks Moe, http://tyfordaudiovideo.blogspot.com/2016/03/audio-ltd-1010-digital-wireless.html
  11. Here's my latest blog review. The Audio Ltd. 1010 http://tyfordaudiovideo.blogspot.com/2016/03/audio-ltd-1010-digital-wireless.html
  12. Just got Countryman to send a B6 with a molex to fit the Audio Technica System 10 body mic. AT's own BP896 has a shielding problem resulting in buzz, but the B6 works just fine, so you can bury a small mic when using the System 10. That is all. Regards, Ty Ford
  13. Glenn Sanders, at Zaxcom, had the process of a wireless mic that generates time code and records audio at the transmitter patented in the USA.
  14. My friend Phil is right. We know the FCC doesn't have enough people to police the spectrum. As a result of the patent, is using the recording version in the USA a problem or is buying the recording version in the USA a problem? If a sound recordist from the UK comes to the USA with a recording version of the 1010, will there be someone at the port of entry to apprehend the offending person? I'm not a lawyer, but I doubt it. Again, where are the teeth in patent law? The 1010 does not generate timecode and does not transmit timecode. Glenn's Zaxcom device does. Does this difference in design negate the basis for a patent violation? I don't know. What do you think? I'm sure Glenn will provide some clarity.
  15. The special (green) slot in the metal chassis Audio Ltd. Digital Wireless 1010 transmitter is a micro SD slot. Outside of the USA, this slot will be used to accept an SD card and the card will record audio. The slot will also be used to update firmware. A USA patent will prevent this slot from being used to record audio in the USA. The slot will only be available to update firmware. If you decide to buy an Audio Ltd. 1010 from another country and use it here, the owner of the patent can challenge you. I'm not sure how that works. I think, at some point, the patent will be challenged. How will it play out? I don't know.
  16. little brother of KSM 141. A little noisy, but if you try it and it works, great! I've found an AT BP4025 XY stereo mic does a nice thing. It uses two LD diaphragms, so it creates more voltage swing, (more sensitive, less selfnoise.) Check out the Ambi08 file recorded with the BP4025 in this folder: https://www.dropbox.com/s/7f0qg6se5bzvbev/ATBP4025ambi08.wav It's little brother, AT8022 is pretty good as well: Here's more on it. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/602080-REG/Audio_Technica_AT8022_AT8022_X_Y_Stereo_Phantom.html/BI/8631/KBID/9745 Regards, Ty Ford
  17. not sure that this would help but I have found that some battery powered/phantom powered lavs need the battery to be in place, with battery turned off, if there is a switch, when powering with external phantom power. Also, contact AT support. They're very attentive. Regards, Ty Ford
  18. Here's a very full-featured direct box - The Radial Engineering JDV MK5. http://tyfordaudiovideo.blogspot.com
  19. Gordon, Thanks for the lucidity. You're my hero in so many ways. Ty
  20. Last time I tried infrared headphones outside, they didn't do very well on a sunny day. That was a long time ago, but I remember thinking, "Oh, yeah, the sun generates a lot if IR," The Audio-Technica and Rode 2.4 GHz wireless both use APT-x compression. I think it's 2:1. Sounds pretty damn good to my ears. Here's a clip using the Audio-Tehcnica System 10 and their MT830 omni wav.
  21. This has not been my experience with the 1010. When you get to the fringe, there's quite a bit of crackle. Is this termination for bag use too big?
  22. Dunno how it's switched, but just plug XLR into one 664 or 633 input and the audio comes up on that input.
  23. not in the USA. I don't know what the repercussions would be if you bought it "grey market" abroad. In the past, that's sometimes means you can't get service in the USA, for example, if the piece was not bought in the USA.
