  2. Fred's at it again, modifying another of my carts... This time its the Mixer bag cart and he has been dragging it half way round the world in a suitcase - as check in luggage all under 23kg . Suitcase is; by Sandpiper of California Rolling Loadout Luggage X-Large AND he's added a small shelf out the front for his mixer. Maybe I should look at that as an option?
  3. November 2014 Do you have a foldup cart and your equipment is freezing its ..../..... off. That's why we designed the Foldup extreme weather cover... We have re-designed the clear hoodie, it extends out more over the font & is supported by a fibreglass rod arch - works a treat. likewise we have included 2 rods in each clear panel. This allows them to support themselves & the sides - again works a treat. Still no progress on a lightweight, easy on/off rain cover - but things have stalled in the R & D department till 2015. We do intend to make one. Have not changed the grey hoodie as it still works well as a sun shade. Rob
  4. Thank you Jeff. Thank you Richard - I don't mind pedantic. The info for the VK mixer shelf you are after is; The height is actually 121mm on left side & 120mm on right side - 121mm being 4.75". The width is 450mm (17.75") (between the pop rivets) The Depth (length) is 455mm (just shy of 18"). Something else to consider is the shelf only extends 330mm (13") This could restrict you fitting mixer into tray at an angle. However you could disconnect shelf, place mixer on tray & reconnect shelf. You could turn shelf upside down, but that would cut your headroom by 32mm (1.25") Best wishes, Rob Stalder
  5. The VK cart has undergone a small transition. Main aspect is it is now rack width. It also has a square shaped empty bottom module (with rack strips front & back), to give maximum flexibility. Same old removable shelf in top mod, so you can stand your mixer bag up or lay it down. Same roller wheels and a new inclusion - 2 x removable folding rack brackets for dual monitor setup. 13. To quote Jenn... The drawer is by SKB. I place it in top of the extended rack and fasten it with bungie chords. It is too long to be screwed onto the side of the fold-up cart. http://www.skbcases.com/music/products/proddetail.php?f=sku_rack_space_units-2-80&id=182&o=name&offset=name&c=80&s=80

  15. What Constantin said. My personal choice would be the Sennheiser K6/Me66. - K6 powering module with me66 super cardioid capsule. Its not too directional. Also K6 section can also be powered by aa battery which is a big bonus for you. Well priced http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/73100-REG/Sennheiser_ME66_K6_COMBO_ME66_K6_Super_Cardioid_Mic.html I wouldn't touch a 416 - in your hands it would be like me trying to shoot stills from the window of a speeding bus with fixed lenses & a manual zoom.
  16. 20. Cutlery make a lot of noise - has a habit of cutting across dialogue. Try to have small tables so diners are closer to mics.
  21. Lav on waiter could be put midway down chest - about leval with heads of diners - waiter could be asked to favour his /her chest ?/! to diner when having conversation... Have had good results from lav on tables, bit like boundary mic affect - need to isolate from table noise - your idea of 1-2 planted in practical props may be better.
  22. Interesting thread, especially coming from your point of view. I have done about 10 maybe adult films. Essentially they were no different from any other drama type work I have done. One way YOU can look at sound acquisition is from the perspective of photographic framing. Framing a scene is a serious skill... Using a boom microphone to acquire the various sounds and volume of sounds is a serious skill... When I have done them I boomed and mixed the sounds to give a finished complete & controlled, finished product. I used a Sennheiser 416 (if I remember correctly) - (today I might use a Sanken CS30) - but I know how to handle one at the same time as adjusting levels. In the hands of a professional sound Recordists ALL of the nuances of sound can be picked up this way. If I didn't know what I was doing I would probably be best advised to use a much wider (MKH50) patterned microphone. The result YOU will get is about the same as I would get with a fixed wide angle lens. My advice... hire a sound person a few times, you will probably find they actually save you a lot of money and heartache. Think about it, hearing what people are saying And their emotional sound expressions are half of the tantalising appeal of your video. Maybe you can get in touch with a film school for a sound person if you cant afford a professional. Just make sure you explain fully what is the nature of what they will be exposed to. I know for me it was no big deal and I maintained a respect for the actors involved. There is also a lot of information on this sight that might help you form the right opinion about what you are attempting to do. Hopefully there might be people who can give you a few thread URL's rather than suggest you search for answers. RS

    Welder?

Another hint - from looking at your picture of the broken weld it appears that the original weld was ground flat after welding. (probably to enhance the appearance) this reduces the strength of the weld probably by abt 70%. So when its re-welded leave the weld intact. RS
