  1. Thanks Jeff. I'll add one more from later that same day. It's a beautiful time of the year in my neck of the woods.
  2. Went on a tech survey the week before shooting started and found out the director really wanted to shoot in front of this fountain. Especially loud because the water lands on cement, not just into a pool of water. Production told me they completely understood the challenge that would pose for me, so they fully expected to have to ADR the scene. But, I love a challenge. So I did a little research and slapped these together on the weekend in my garage. The center is the foam from an old mattress and the black stuff wrapped around it is some water filter material used in the backyard pond industry. I looked at air filter material but I could only find white and I wanted it to be a dark colour to try and fade into the BG. I would say it cut down the sound of the fountain by about 80 percent. Could still hear it, but combine the pads with some tightly placed lav mics on actors with there back to the fountain and I think we got some very usable audio !
  3. From earlier this week. Beautiful Autumn day. Nice to be shooting outside.
  4. No, I believe I ended my post with a thanks. But let me take this opportunity to say thanks to you Senator, for just being you.
  5. well look at that....movie slate has a website.....whood a thunk it..... Thanks.
  6. I want to update my Ipads and Iphone to IOS 8, but worried about any issues that might come up with Movie Slate. Has anyone updated to IOS 8 and still using Movie Slate with no issues ? Specifically using Movie Slate with Timecode Buddy sync feature ?
  7. Thanks for the pictures and insights. As always, JWsound doesn't disappoint when looking for help !
  8. I'm familiar with the Magliner Junior and Senior carts. But I haven't seen a Magliner Mini cart in person. Just curious if anyone was using it as the base for there sound cart, or even follow cart. Would love to see any pictures you might have with audio gear on it to get an idea of the scale of it. I'm also curious to know if it is wide enough underneath to house rack mount equipment. The Backstage magliner catalogue shows pictures of it and states the width to be 19 inches, just like rackmount gear, but is there enough room to mount a small production case with rack rails in there is what I'm wondering. Thanks.
  9. It's funny reading all the comments about them targeting niche markets. When I spoke to the owner of Quantum (a few years ago now) and asked hime why they didn't have a bag style receiver, he said they were working on it but it wasn't a priority at the time because they considered the bag receivers a niche market. lol.
  10. I'm thiking of using this product: http://www.atlassound.com/Solutions/Products/8820/BB-EB1616DT.html Would be in my RF rack and route my Lectro Venues into my Dante network. http://www.atlassound.com/Solutions/Images/3612/BB-EB1616DTfront.
  11. Thought this was a fun way to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnKcTTPUjyU Personally I like the Scorcese Christmas. But I was thinking an exploding Christmas tree with helicopters flying around would have been a very Micheal Bay Christmas, maybe a Tarantino Christmas could have been interesting and definitely needs a Hitchcock Christmas !!
  12. Thats awesome crew, hope you can post up some pics when you get the new van and any mods you do to make working with it easier. And if it makes any difference, I kinda like the look. Different from everything else out there. Front wheel drive also allows for a nice low loading height in cargo area. Looks like all the American brands have gone with the higher Euro style van, with just Chevy still hanging on to the Savannah / Express model. Wonder if they're going to bring something new to the market? As for size, it always seems that just when you get comfortable and think, "now this is more then I'll ever need!", the phone rings with a bigger project and the need for more space. When i got my Transit I certainly thought it was more then enough, now it seems to be just enough... and I've toyed with the idea of getting a trailer, and wouldn't you know it, the manual says my vehicle isn't designed for towing.
  13. Looks promising. Certainly better then the last cargo van Dodge/Chrysler made. 2014_ram_promaster_jb-01-3527.JPG http://www.ramtruck.ca/en/promaster/
  14. If I want to plug in a 416 into the front input of a Sony 800 xd cam, do I just need a 5pin to 3 pin xlr cable to adapt it? Is it really that simple ?
  15. I've been driving a Ford Transit Connect for almost a year now. I'm really liking it as a work vehicle. Lots of height and low loading floor make it pretty good for my gear. But I was getting fed up with trying to stow my folding ramps. So after a lot of thinking and contemplating different solutions, I came up with an idea and I got a local welder to make me up some pockets to fit on the back doors. Take a look. He used the pressboard panels that were on the doors as a template. Bungee across the top of the ramps to hold them firmly in place. If I just need to grab something from the back without unloading the ramps swing out of the way leaving lots of room to access the back. Lots of room to spare. I've even done a few days mixing inside the Transit. Using one of my Pelicans as a seat for now. I will have to try and find something a little more comfortable.
  16. Get production to buy a bunch of the largest sized felt winter boot inserts they can find. cut them down to ankle height and get any crew member walking with the camera to wear them over there shoes. see if the steadicam guy will wear them too, but as mentioned earlier, a lot of them like to wear running shoes for optimal grip. But if it's just a walking shot and an agreable operator, maybe he will go for it as well.
  17. I understand what your saying Jeff, but I know the market that Fieldmixer is talking about and SD products seem to be the expected norm. Not picking sides you understand, just pointing out the market reality. I think Fieldmixers idea of having Nomads be able to wirelessly sync timecode between themselves is a pretty smart idea. Especially on a reality show with many recorders and cameras. And it would seem, on the surface anyways, a pretty easy idea to implement since you can get Nomads with built in IFB and camera hop Tx's I believe ?
  18. Mine does the same thing. It was scary the first time ! but I've become used to it now. Like Mirror mentioned, I just cycle it on and off a couple of times and it will eventually fire up quietly. Usually takes 2 or 3 tries. I wouldn't say mine does it 50 percent of the time. Maybe one in ten power ups it happens.
  19. I was in Vegas filming that show ! Small world. lol. And Rado is a great source for local info and audio rentals ! Thanks again Rado. (fortunatly I didn't have to try out his bail services !) NERD ALERT! Had a couple of nights off so I left the strip to check out the pinball museum ! http://www.pinballmuseum.org/ Museum is a bit of a misnomer because these machines aren't just for looking at, they are all playable ! They have all the old classics and the legendary machines like Star Trek Next Generation, Twilight Zone, Star Wars etc... I'm a bit of a pin head and had dreamed of visiting the pinball museum for some time. And I figured if I'm going to pump money in to a mchine in Vegas, might as well have fun doing it!
  20. Saw this video today. Has some creative location sound recording. And has a cameo by a CMIT as well. Pretty creative use of old technology to make modern music, http://youtu.be/Bzwm_2M7NX4
  21. Looks like Sound Devices thought my idea might work!! Check out the latest firmware update from Sound Devices to try it out.
  22. Thanks guys and gals at Movieslate. Downloaded the updated version this afternoon and I'm back in business. Thanks for the quick response.
  23. Haha. I'll say I'm lucky. I've managed to keep 40 half hour tv episodes and a 12 part doc series in frame accurate sync using my IOS devices over the past year. Guess I should buy a lottery ticket.
  24. Actually I've been using the system for over a year with fantastic results. Frame accurate timecode is very possible with this system. I'm sure this is just a bug that will get sorted out very soon. until then I will revert to using my old Denecke slate. Hope I remember to keep jamming it. I've gotten out of that habit after using the TC buddy system for so long.
