  1. My new bag kit is all ready to go ! I'm using a Sound Devices 664 with 3 SRB receivers (just got back from upgrade at Lectro) sending to Lectro D4 Transmiter and TC Buddy Wifi master. Inspired by Pascal, I've also had a custom bracket machined and mounted to the 664. It holds the SRB's, a DC power meter and Power switch solidly in the bag. The whole bag runs on V-Mount batteries. With two P-Tap connectors, I can hot swap out the batteries so I don't have to power down. The green glow power button ties in nicely with the DC power display. I'm really happy with how it turned out. Looks great and everything is held nice and tight in the bag. I'll update when I've used the bag for a couple of days on the battery run times.
  2. Must be different cycles for there 17 year life span because I've read about this impending doom a few times over the years on these forums and/or the old RAMPS forums. lol.
  3. I don't believe Zaxcom services them anymore, but I do know someone in Toronto who can service them.
  4. yes it is. one of the first (and only?) dedicated digital film/tv mixers designed for on location use.
  5. Maybe you already checked this, but there is a switch on the EX-3 that allows input 1 to be routed to channel 1 and 2. Did you make sure channel 1 is getting audio from input 1 and channel 2 from input 2 ? I know it seems like an obvious thing, but I've been fooled by that switch before when setting up a link to camera.
  6. That scene stood out to me too. Not so much for the noisy lav, but for the fact that it sounded like all lav the whole way. Would have been a nice chance to play with the perspective (even if faked in post with the lav sound) a little, since it was such a long walk from beginning to end. Hearing him so up front and centre the whole time with no change in sound made it sound like a reporter doing a walk and talk.
  7. Not sure what concerts you go to Senator, but most shows I've attended in the last 20 years have a stereo mix.
  8. These guys should have you covered: http://www.midcan.com/ ...well, actually not sure about the RM-11's, but they can probably point you in the right direction.
  9. Me neither. Never had that happen.
  10. I've done it with a 411. Worked well. Shouldn't be any different.<br /><br />Unless the Venue is in a specific block range and the SR is in a different block, venue's filters might interfere? Unless the loop through is before the filters?<br /><br />Hmmm. I guess I've only brought up more questions then answers, lol.
  11. Hi Paul, It was nice meeting you at Harry's. Hope your Sync boxes worked after you left that day. To my knowledge notes can't be transmitted via Timecode Buddy. But Movie Slate may have a way to share info between Idevices. I haven't had a chance to play with that aspect, because the script supervisor on our show is using a completely different software for her logging/notes/continuity. But checking the "history" of the sound log is so simple in Movie Slate, that getting info about how many takes or timecode start stops is a snap. It feels like we are on the verge of getting a system in place where all info from all depts. will converge into one database on set. Wether it will be Movie Slate app or another system we don't even know about yet, remains to be seen.
  12. I've been using Movie Slate as an actual Slate on my current series. Linked with my 788T via Timecode buddy. Tx at the cart, 2 TC buddy masters on the cameras, Ipad 2 for slate and Ipad Mini at my cart for sound report. Also, the Script supervisor is using a software called "ScriptE" it can't read the TC over Wifi that the TC buddy system creates. But, we loaded the Movie Slate app on to her Iphone, now she receives the TC on her phone, outputs the signal via a mini plug into her laptop and voila, her script notes are in sync with our timecode. It's been working really well. One update I'd love to see, if possible: I color code my tracks on my recorder (like many others do) and It would be great if we could switch the blue dot that is currently marking the individual tracks in Sound Dept. mode to whatever colour we like so it could match my recorders colour/track layout. Would also love the option to have a setting that would allow automatic reset of the take number to 1 when the slate number is changed. I know not everyone works that way, but most projects I work on, that is the case. I know a couple of people on this board are in close contact with the manufacturers of this software, maybe you could pass along the suggestions.
  13. Nice work Pascal, I had a similar idea when I got my 664, made it as far as a foamcore mockup but never followed through. But you have added the NP batt holder which is great. I hadn't thought of doing that. Mine was going to have the 3 SR's, power switch and a DC Display where you have the NP. Bringing the headphone output up is a good idea too. I may be inspired to try again with another foamcore mockup. I was thinking of adding a front panel from Front Panel Express (thanks to Tom Visser for introducing us to that company via his "Pimp my H2N" thread.) I think it would add a nice final touch. T'es un vrai patenteux !
  14. I'm all wireless too these days. I receive the boom signal via a Lectro HM plug on TX, plugged into the base of a loon boom. Boom-op receives 2 track audio via Lectro D4 transmitter to Quadra digital IEM portable receiver (now discontinued I believe) Track 1 pre-fade boom Iso, track 2 mix. Boom op is free to listen to whichever channel he wishes or mix of the two if he prefers. I've also used track 3 for pre-fade boom iso to a second boom op from time to time. System works great. Sound quality is almost as good as being plugged directly into the mixer, and I get great range from the TX antenna I've fixed above my soundcart. I can also install D4 receivers on any cameras that need audio, at the same time. It's an expensive setup. However, I do quite a bit of "bag" mixing projects too, so the D4 was something I already owned.
  15. I once had a production use my house as a location. It was for a series on HGTV. Got a free cedar fence around my backyard out of the deal. Ironically, I usually work on that series, but I was double booked and ended up working a different show while they filmed at my house. Was kinda strange leaving one set at the end of the day and pulling up to my house which was another set.
  16. I think Sterling wins the "coolest talkback mic on a soundcart" award!
  17. Hey Vale, Just FYI, I use a 4 pin XLR to get from my power supply (at the bottom back of my cart) up into the road case. It's a short run (probably 3-4 feet of cable total). But through the cables and connectors I end up losing some voltage. Right now it's about half a volt. I've tried different gauges of cable (that can fit inside a 4 pin XLR connector), trying to minimize the loss (the first cable I used lost a full volt, if not more) I even tried running power through pins 2 and 3 along with 1 and 4 to try and bring up the juice. If I were to redo my power connection (from my power supply to power distro in the road case) I might try a different connector that can easily house a thicker gauge wire to try an minimize the loss. Of course once power is brought into the distro box, I would go with 4 pin XLR to all the individual pieces of gear.
  18. Terrible news. Worked with him on a few occasions here in Ottawa. Always a smile on his face and a great attitude. But his thirst for adventure often took him away from home. It was always a running joke when local crew would ask, where in the world is John Driftmier? I was just checking out his pictures on Facebook this weekend from his 12 hour stopover in Ethiopia this past week. He was working on the show "Worlds Most Dangerous Flights" for Discovery channel, when the plane he was filming in crashed in Kenya. He also worked on "Ice Pilots NWT", "Highway through Hell" and "Pyro's" to name a few. My condolences to his wife and family.
  19. Yeah, the transit custom really seems like the perfect size. A shame it won't make it to this side of the pond. Also in europe, you can choose between front, rear or all wheel drive on the full size transit, and even get it in a manual gear box.
  20. Fords website has info up about the next generation of Ford Transit Connects. For 2014, it looks like the Connect loses it's high roof. too bad, that was one of it's best qualities. 2014 Ford Transit Connect Ford has also released info for the new full sized Transit. with three lengths and three roof heights it would seem there is one for every need. 2014 Ford Transit
  21. Great looking cart Vale ! I think you have brought some nice improvements over my design. I really like your waterproof electrical in and outs. Having them plug on the sides is really smart. It's something I would change from my current design. Also, when I built mine I considered using a roto-molded road case like yours but I couldn't figure out a way that I was happy with, to hold the case to the base properly. I think your solution is simple and elegant. Much better then a strap. And it must be quite easy to detach when packing. Wish I had thought of that. I ended up reluctantly going with a traditional built road case, but that in turn lead to me attaching the monitors into the doors, which I like very much, but I digress... I think the wheels should be more then enough. Many folks have told me mine would be undersized and overwhelmed when rolling over anything other then flat floors. but I've not had any issues rolling my cart where I need to, including dirt paths, gravel, snow covered sidewalks and roads, and even the beach. I agree that larger diameter would roll easier, but I think the advantages of having the wheels inboard of the cart are worth the smaller size. Only thing I would be worried about with your cart is the weight. The fact you made it all out of steel. I imagine it will start to get quite heavy, especially when those drawers start getting filled. My base is made from Aluminium and I sometimes find it a bit of a pig. How much does your weight ? Also, the little tabs you have at the back, that line up with the contour of your case, brilliant. That will surely help getting the case on when you're in a hurry. Could you tell me where you got that headphone hook ? I'd love to add one to my cart. Glad my cart could help inspire yours. I think you took the best parts of mine and added some great touches that really improve the overall design. Congrats, I'm sure you'll love your cart for many years to come, now you just need to add some cool ground effects/under-cart led lighting ! lol.
  22. Maybe only Canadians and/or hockey fans would get this one. Camera guys I've been working with the last few months have a shot they call the "Bertuzzi" It's basicaly a dirty side/profile shot. We are shooting the series with 2 cameras and when the DP wants a 35mm lens on cam 1 and 50mm on camera 2, they call for "meat and potatoes"
  23. Not at all. I just know how resourceful sound mixers can be when trying to use gear. Sort of like the Lectro Venue Field Unit. Initially Lectro only released the rackmount version but it was due to some inventive sound mixers (in Toronto I believe) that it was repurposed and modified to be used in the field and Lectro subsequently released the field version. I'm sure someone is modifying a Petrol bag as we speak, to be able to fit a pix into it for a portable recorder. lol.
  24. Some pretty amazing possibilities with this new machine. Would love to see a shot of the audio only mode screen. Hooking up a 01V96 via Dante with the 260i would yield a very capable mixer recorder package. and being able to trigger the record function of the pix via a portable device ("Movie Slate" app Sound Dept mode for example) would be great. Can't wait to see how fellow JWSound members start integrating this into there setup. I'm sure someone will find a use for this in a completely new way no one at Sound Devices ever expected!
