  1. Hi All To answer the original question, here is a quote from an email I just received from him: "The server with my old e-mail addresses (and web site) was taken off line in early January. It was closed down because my brother could no longer afford to keep it running (or rather it didn't make sense anymore). I had nothing to do with the decision as such." FWIW, he currently lives in California. Also, it would appear you found the file you were looking for on my site. Have a GREAT DAY!!! Ray
  2. Billy Not having seen the new feature, I'm going to make the assumption that it uses the existing frequency scan function as a subroutine and it can only scan for the one alternate frequency in that QRX100. Then the command to change the transmitter frequency is sent using the existing frequency change command in the local QIFB board. Based on that, I don't see a way for an IFB100 to be able to receive multiple requests for a frequency change from X number of units. The solution would be to have an antenna combiner for all of the QIFB antenna connectors and send the output to the IFB amplifier and then to the IFB antenna. Have a GREAT DAY!!! Ray
  3. Oleg, FWIW, the website has: "Digital Inputs 8 (3 AES pair with SRC, 1 AES-42 pair with SRC". 3 standard AES pairs (6 channels) and 1 AES-42 pair (2 channels). "Digital Outputs 4 AES pairs (8 channels)" How can they all fit on one connector? Well here is how it is done with the Deva/Fusion. Pin DESC Pin DESC 1 Ch3/4, Pin2 9 Ch7/8, Pin1 2 Ch1/2, Pin2 10 Ch5/6, Pin1 3 NC 11 Ch3/4, Pin3 4 Ch7/8, Pin2 12 Ch1/2, Pin3 5 Ch5/6, Pin2 13 NC 6 Ch3/4, Pin1 14 Ch7/8, Pin3 7 Ch1/2, Pin1 15 Ch5/6, Pin3 8 NC I do not know for a fact that this is how it will be done, but Zaxcom is usually consistant when it comes to pin-assignment in connectors. 4. Jan I'm not familiar with that van. I assume it has a side door on the passenger side. If it does, consider the following: park the cart toward the back, on the driver's side and load your boxes and other gear in the space behind the side door. This will give you the ability to unload the cart without having to remove/adjust the equipment boxes. I would have suggested parking it on the passenger side but don' know if there is enough room to secure the cart. Have a GREAT DAY!!! Ray

    Canadian 700mhz!

Hi Guys (and Gals) I'm in the process of creating a reference for each country to spell out frequency limits and licensing requirements (or not) for wireless gear. Could you let me know whether or not the following info is correct for Canada? Before transition: 450.0 – 451.9 MHz Auxillary-to-broadcast only 455.0 – 456.9 MHz Auxillary-to-broadcast only 470.0 – 608.0 MHz License required – 250mW max – 200 kHz bandwidth max 614.0 – 806.0 MHz License required – 250mW max – 200 kHz bandwidth max After transition: 450.0 – 451.9 MHz Auxillary-to-broadcast only 455.0 – 456.9 MHz Auxillary-to-broadcast only 470.0 – 608.0 MHz License required – 250mW max – 200 kHz bandwidth max 614.0 – 698.0 MHz License required – 250mW max – 200 kHz bandwidth max The transition date is 2011/03/31. The miscellaneous licensing info is: Currently it is NOT possible to obtain a license for wireless gear in the range 698.0 - 806.0 MHz. Only existing licensed gear can operate in that range, until the transition date. Also, I don't know if there are any frequencies available for unlicensed use. If so, what are the requirements for power, etc? TIA Ray
  6. Hi ALL Just started reading this thread. The New Mexico Film Office had a study performed by Ernst & Young back in 2009. It's currently on the welcome page of our website at: http://www.iatselocal480.com/. Have a GREAT DAY!!! Ray
  7. If I remember correctly, an antenna can cover the entire next BLOCK on boths sides of the block it's tuned for. Ray
  8. In reference to the Ramsey antenna, would there be any problem with using paint to change the green color? If not, what kind of paint is recommended? Ray
  9. What would using a 75-ohm bulkhead connector do? Ray
  10. John Will someone being taping the seminars for the out-of-towners? Ray
  11. Oleg If I remember correctly, from another thread, there is a problem using a Lithium battery with a PSC UPS. The battery has a higher voltage than the charging circuit. The battery is used until the charging circuit is at a higher voltage and THEN the power is coming from the UPS and not the battery, resulting in a partically or mostly discharged battery. So instead of being able to run for XX hours on battery, there may only be an hour or two remaining. I emailed PSC more than a year ago, inquiring about a new version of the UPS units that was built to work with some version of Lithium chemistry. The response at that time was they were looking to see what chemistries would be available in a couple of years and expected the price for the new chemistries to drop significantly. Ray
  12. Hi ALL Sorry to get into this thread late. There is a website that is already doing what you are considering: http://hollywoodcrewblacklist.blogspot.com/. They publish a blog online, no membership or login required. The top of the first page is as follows: Have you crewed on a project whose producers have promised that "the check is in the mail", or now actively avoid your phone calls? This is a list of clients who promise pay, but fail to cut a check at the end of a shoot or mail out payment. Please use caution in submitting to this list, and include a description to justify a submission. Write to: hollywoodcrewblacklist@gmail.com See also: http://bigbookofbastards.com/ http://disgruntledcrew.blogspot.com/ Be aware that the two websites they point to are NO LONGER available. Food for thought. Ray
  13. Hi All Just went back through this topic. Do new versions of the specs exist? Could you post them? Have a GREAT Day!!! Ray
  14. Hi All We all know about the digital transition that occured in the USA, effective 12 June 2010. AFAIK, Canada will also transition, effective 31 August 2011. Is any other country or subcomponent scheduled for a transition that will affect available wireless frequencies? If so, what is the effective date? TIA Ray
  15. Hi All Just to clarify ... when I wrote "Their plates are full and this would take way too much time away from improving the software" ... those are MY words. I won't bother them unless it is absolutely necessary. Also, as Glenn stated, I'm looking for practical advice and assistance based on using the Effects Package, in the real world. My other job, aside from being a Mixer is as a Software/Database Developer. I realize that Users can be really creative in using the packages that I develop. They will think of ways to use them that I may not have considered. That is why I'm coming to all of you, to see what you're doing. How you're using it. Especially ... How you're using it. Your decision process and the choices you make. Also, as I stated ... "* provide inexperienced individuals with the information to intelligently experiment with the technology before bringing it onto the set," ... I'm in this group. I've NEVER used any effects because I believed that there was never a time that was appropriate on the set. Based on the discussions that have been held on RAMPS, I now believe there IS a time when it could be appropriate. So, in addition to all of you, this chapter will be an immense help to me. Sorry for any misunderstandings. Ray
  16. Hi All I need to borrow your ear (eye) for a moment! I'm in the process of re-writing the Deva/Fusion User Manual. I need someone to help me rewrite the Effects Chapter that will be used in both User Manuals. I am by NO means an authority on the subject. I am looking for someone that is knowledgable in using Zaxcom's implementation of Equalization and Compression that could describe their theory about using them. What the chapter needs to do: * provide inexperienced individuals with the information to intelligently experiment with the technology before bringing it onto the set, and * provide experienced individuals transitioning to Zaxcom equipment with the information necessary to get them off the starting line quickly. I am aware of the pros and cons of using the technology on set. My goal is to provide my brothers and sisters in the industry the information to efficiently and effectively use the tools in their possession. By this time you are probably asking yourself: "Why isn't he talking to Zaxcom's Engineers about this?" The response is: "Their plates are full and this would take way too much time away from improving the software." So … if this sounds like something you would consider doing, contact me through the group or if that is too public contact me directly. Thank you for the use of your ear (eye)! Have a GREAT DAY!!! 17. Hi ALL The Manual is still a work in progress. I have been collecting info, testing the Fusion and writing up everything I find (Good, Bad and Indifferent). Be aware, I have not previously operated a Fusion, so I am experimenting with it to find out all of the details that a user would discover in the first year of use, but compressed down to three months or so. Currently, I am finishing the largest chapter. It describes ALL of the capabilities and limitations about every single page and includes screenshots. As I go, I am writing up anything I see that is wrong with the software. Once the chapter is completed, I'll be turning in a copy to Howy & Glenn for review and discussion about what I've found. I'm also planning the Quickstart chapter. The intent is to touch on every menu page in some form or fashion. If you have something you want to see there, let me know. Keep in mind, all explanations will be in the BIG chapter. Only those necessary to the details of the Quickstart will be included. Once I have the user manual finished, there will be a period of review by everyone at Zaxcom, resulting in “Tuning”. The result of this is it probably will be another three – four months before it is published to the website. Once we've reached that milestone, it should only take a week or so to get major updates out, minor updates in less than a day. It may seem like I'm taking a lot of time to get one user manual done. I'm currently working on several: • Miniature Recorders User Manual – currently under review • Control Surfaces User Manual – currently getting the finishing touches • Fusion 10/12 User Manual – you know this already Once those are done, I should be able to use the Fusion UM as a seed to create the DEVA UM, significantly speeding-up the process. Have a GREAT DAY!!! Ray
  18. The latest version is now on the Zaxcom website. I just wanted to thank everyone who submitted information and/or requests for "stuff" to be included. Have a GREAT DAY!!! Ray
  19. Jeff No offense taken ... I was pulling your leg! In my OTHER life I am a Computer Programmer/Software Developer. Have a GREAT DAY!!! Ray
  20. Jeff Come on ... I said I would look at doing it! Ray
  21. Jeff I work in a PC XP environment and Acrobat Reader works correctly for me. I haven't used an Apple since the Apple II+, which I still have in storage. So ... I don't know how Acrobat behaves under Apple. I have heard that there are significant differences, whatever that means. Ray
  22. Jeff All of the Underlined, Bold & Blue Text items are in fact shortcuts (hyperlinks) to the section indicated. The document is specifically identified as a PDF file for use with Adobe Acrobat Reader. The results of reading it with any other reader are not guaranteed. I added page numbers to the Configuration menus for each unit. I will look at placing page numbers in the other locations. Another capability GT was looking for was the ability to go back to that hyperlink after reviewing the text pointed to by the hypertext. I had already told GT about the View Previous button, which does exactly that. Ray
