  1. Yes, definitely. I have an audio resume highlighting my audio experience.
  2. I had everything set up correctly in the TASCAM menu and noticed this today when setting to 23.976, still some ghosting on the lcd screen, but numbers were readable. I was using the Denecke timecode generator app on my iphone, set up 23.976NDF and jammed my recorder to it using the exact same settings. Tom, looking forward to the firmware update.
  3. Thanks for all the help guys. I called TASCAM tech support. They told me that the recorder is actually jam-synching fine, and the reason the numbers are garbled is because there is no 3-digit capability for display on frames. I checked it out for myself, dropped the audio into Final Cut, and the timecode was displaying 23.976 timecode perfectly. So, I basically panicked for no reason. Still, it's unsettling to see timecode all jacked up even if it works, but I am going to get over it and other than that, the P2 is a good recorder for the money.
  4. Okay, so here's the deal. I have been an ENG/EFP cameraman working on freelance news, documentaries, corporate, reality TV shows and TV commercials. I now have a DSLR rig and I am getting into more film style shooting as well. I have also worked as a gaffer and grip, and I know quite a bit about lighting. In my 13 years in this business, I have also mixed audio in TV trucks, and done bag audio mixing and boom op work for corporate, TV commercials and ENG/EFP type work. A big reason is when the shooting gets slow, I get work as an ENG type sound mixer. Some people give me flak for dipping my toe in both ponds, but I freelance to survive and pay my bills. It's also useful to have both skills in the reality TV/one man band situations that I encounter, especially working on a certain travel/adventure show where I am not an underwater shooter, so I have to do camera topside while the divers come up onto the boat, and do location sound mixing when all the divers and host are on dry land visiting cool places. I actually enjoy doing both. Generally, I try to sell myself as a DP/lighting/cameraman, and hire a sound guy to work my gear. My eventual goal is to establish a regular list of clients and build my production company, making money off of my gear rental, which I already have. I am NOT looking at becoming a CAS sound mixer with a big sound cart and mixing audio for feature films. And I truly respect all the CAS sound mixers and boom ops out there. My question is, does anyone else here shoot as well as do audio mixing/recording?
  5. Stacy, you mean gigs as an A2? I found out that the TASCAM has an inherent flaw in it's design, and will not jam to 23.976. It's a bug. I am going to call them about it.
  6. Hi, I was jam-synching timecode from the Canon C300 to my Denecke Smart Slate, and TASCAM HD-P2 recorder. I had my recorder set to 23.976, non drop frame, linear time code input, I double checked all the settings. However, when I was jammed, all I got was garbled numbers and three digits in the frame section of the timecode display. Has anyone else had this problem. Maybe this could be fixed with a lockit box to jam everything to instead? I found the same problem on another forum http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/all-things-audio/502518-tascam-hd-p2-23-976-timecode-issue.html I got fired from this gig because of my problem, and lost 2 grand worth of pay. I feel horrible about it, and I don't want to lose any more work.
  7. Wow, that is crazy. Here in the Dallas market, an ENG sound mixer (bag setup, recorder, boom) one-man band averages $450-$600 and that includes gear. I usually get $450-$500. Of course, this is not a sound cart setup or anything, I actually don't know what the rate here is for that.
  8. Okay, thanks for the advice. Yes, the Slate is a TS-C, and I have switched to position "4" even though it is 23.976. Thanks. I do not have a lockit box. I may buy one in the future, but this shoot starts tomorrow. My plan is to jam the slate to the Canon C300 camera, and jam the HD-P2 to the camera as well, and keep it connected to the TC out of the camera, so that It will stay jammed off the camera while we roll. These are mostly interviews with some b-roll, so they shouldn't last longer than one or two hours each.
  9. Okay, so I finally bought a Denecke smart slate. The instructions and diagram on the back are decent, but, I need some help please. Camera is a Canon C300, 23.98 frame rate, jamming slate and TASCAM HD-P2 recorder to camera. Bottom switch is on generate, which I understand jams to an external source if you plug it into TC out while the unit is off, and then you power it back on, so that you can keep the slate jammed once you disconnect it, correct? Frame rate, I couldn't find a way to set for 23.98, so I had the rotary dial set to position 3, which is 24fps but then I set it to position 5, which says "auto" and it worked, jammed to the camera just fine. Will this auto setting automatically set the frame rate? Thanks for your help!
