  1. I just worked with a third/boom op who sprung for the Shure in-ears cans, almost double the whopping price of these ER4S! He had just got them and was figuring out stuff like where to set volume for peaks and such (much softer than 7506s). He swore they sounded amazing, that they had 3 elements or drivers (or something) in each ears. But, the earwax plugged up one side and he went to scoop it out and damaged the damn things! He was rabid about telling me how great and clear they were, the best cans he'd ever heard. As far as the axis thing goes I can say that this man's performance wasn't affected at all, and he was using the CS-3e which is instantly noticeable when it goes off-axis. (Timan you know the dude he was your third last time you were in NOLA.) I love the idea but I can't see spending that much for something so fragile and easy to mess up. I use the HN-7506s and deal with the sweat and bed-head. It throws my style off way more than my product. Dan Izen
  2. This is a great topic! Just got off a 16 hr night (yay OT!) but I had to post. My boom op Betsy has work dreams all the time, I'm always in them but they're not always anxiety dreams. She has them almost every night, the 1st AD is almost always in them. I should ask her about it and see if she remembers more. I occasionally have them but they're more like standard weird dreams that aren't very stressful. My worst dreams are usually after eating a huge quantity of ice cream (I'm allergic to dairy so it's rare) and in these dreams people are completely ignoring me. Loving or hating me is fine, but ignoring is the worst thing anyone can do to me! I did have one recently where I couldn't find my cart or something. I would love to hear any detailed dreams from other soundies! Dan Izen
  3. This looks just like Mark Grech's "Trouser Trout" invention. He also made the Neopax! Dan Izen
  4. Did they walk off set to continue the fight? If so I would hope the mixer would have stopped recording... Perhaps the audio that was leaked was *not* from a production sound roll but from an EPK feed or perhaps even someone tuned into the Tx freq or tuned into the Comtek channel? Dan Izen
  5. I try to check daily on this board, and often I'm really interested in the trends of what's posted chronologically so I always check the recent posts list. Is there any way to list more on this list? Maybe last 50 posts or something? Dan Izen
  6. Ken you are great at touting the company line. I agree with your world view that everyone gets what they deserve, but you are wrong by saying we all benefit by Wal-Mart existing since it drives other companies into competitive pricing. It has forced us to live with crappy products that cost less. And by the way since we invested in the gear we deserve the rental, it's a specious argument to use that in calculating the rate differences. Robert sorry I misspelled your last name. Dan Izen
  7. Yes, everything rpsharpman said. Well put sir. Dan Izen
  8. Bed, Bath & Beyond for $1.60 each. You got to look for them but they've been in every one I've visited. Ask them where the pill boxes are. F*ck Walmart! Dan Izen
  9. Thanks to your parents for making you be born, and happy birth anniversary to you! Who cares that we've never met in person, I'm glad you showed up on this Earth and starting this great forum dude. Dan Izen
  10. Ha ha I never figured out how to post pictures here... I know it's easy but I tried once and it didn't work. Dan
  11. I got a set from Video Village in Philly last November. Now they live on the cart and almost never have to be remoted. Maybe once or twice per show! I hose-clamped 2 C-stands without the feet to both sides of the PSC cart so I can fly them up 12'. Strangely, I met and chatted with Freddy Chancellor in Atlanta who helped design those things! Super cool dude who told me some zany stuff about how those things work. I went the whole package that comes with a sweet Storm Case (way better than Pelican), 2 sharkfins that do appear to work better than the PSC ones, and a nice set of RG8 BNCs. A little less than $2k for em and *well* worth it! Dan
  12. Yes we used the helicals and they worked like a charm. They were mounted onto the top of the van Paul tricked out for driving stuff. The transmitters were blocks away and no dropout. We did record several dialog scenes man, it wasn't all sound fx! Dan Izen
  13. Paul had a 2 day conflict so I sub mixed for a weekend and it was awesome! It was the stunts involving the trolley and the ice cream truck - we used around 4 plant mics for the crashes. It was 3 35mm cameras at all times. Dan Izen
  14. Yah I agree Robert, 48.048k should have the same stamp. I actually proposed the idea of running two different sample rates on the two decks like you suggest, then we realized it might mess up the timecode numbers and end up with the timecode not being consistent. Or something... Anyhow I like my backup to be identical to the original... Anyhow they're going to make sure it's the right version of Avid and it should be all fine... (gulp) And by the way - the Deva DIED in the middle of a take the other day!!!!!!!!!!!!! I heard a digital crunch, then the screen slowly went white, from the outside in like a wacky reverse "that's all folks" wipe... Only lost the last line and it wasn't a take they liked anyway. But I DID LOSE SOME SOUND when that thing died. I power cycled (that's what Zax likes to call it) and it was fine for the rest of the day... Let me say it again: THE DEVA FROZE IN THE MIDDLE OF A TAKE AND I LOST A LINE OF DIALOG!!! And I just updated to software version 5.440 the day before... Dan Izen
  15. We all asked for that test but were denied... For day one I will use 48.048k @ 30ND, and *that* will be the test! I'll post the results here after I hear nothing from post (meaning it was all correct). Dan
  16. Thank you Rich this is what this group's all about, yea! This is huge and gives me a very important question to ask. If the version of Avid works to import the 48.048k, great, if not I'll use that cheat. Thanks for the great great info. Dan Izen
  17. Okay cool! Before I drop $500 on a RollLogic box I'm going to try Stacy's method, thanks again jwsound! Dan Izen
  18. So it's a 35mm job, but differently posted: The lab (Fotokem) will be 1- pass tranferring the film to SR HD Cam tapes (23.976), which are then being thrown onto an Avid 48k/23.976 timeline, and THEN the sound will be imported into this timeline and synced. After some investigation, we're leaning toward recording the sound at 30 ND fps at 48.048, this way both the sound and picture will be similalry slowed down, and sync perfectly. Right? Thanks! Dan Izen
  19. I am running a Cameo II + Deva 5.8 + a Fostex PD6 (for backup). I would like to split the serial plug in order to remote roll for both decks, is this possible? I have seen a setup with a Cooper 208 + Deva 5 + SD 744T, and the remote roll switch on the Cooper ran and cut both decks. How is this possible? Can it work with my setup? Dan Izen
  20. Anyone got a magic solution to getting rid of those early evening / nightime birds that start singing right in the middle of coverage of a scene? Short of a BB gun or shotgun what the heck can you do? Loud noises don't do it... Dan Izen
  21. Didn't realize the 700 was heavy - moreso than the pico + 900AA? And also - where the heck does one get a pico in the states? Dan Izen
  22. Hey that Aja ada4 box does look like the one to get. Custom cable to its 15-pin connector, that sounds really fun. Fun to order from someone else! Thanks for the links, this definitely puts the Solice back in the game for the future. Dan Izen
  23. Yes I will definitely ask camera about ordering first off. How long does it usually take to get em made? Thanks a million for that link! Dan Izen
  24. Cool cool it sounds like Conji is the one to use, I'll call and get that number from Denecke. So we get production design to make the slate graphic and then Conji makes it huh? How long's the turnaround time? Thanks jwsound! Dan Izen
  25. They're just so dang cool, I want to look into them and their cost. Of course production would foot the bill, but I heard they're expensive, and that they only come from one place. Dan Izen
