  1. Awesome job. Love that kind of ingenuity.
  2. Congratulations sir, that's the grossest thing I've read all week! Gray Thomas, Boston area ENG Sound Mixer
  3. God, not another one... Gray Thomas, Boston area ENG Sound Mixer
  4. I can barely see the camera in that one! Geez.
  5. Just checked. From OP's link: "In the meantime, check out some behind the scenes photos of the Cinoflex C300/C500 camera system in action from a shoot they did for Canon Imagination 2013 featuring Eva Longoria." So yeah, not the A7S. The original point still stands of course! The simpler, the better.
  6. Shut me down if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's a C300 buried under all that tech in the original picture... you can see the eyepiece and the SDI ins.
  7. 2 problems I have with the Apple Watch: -Great, now my watch can go obsolete. - These things are gonna suck in movie theaters. Cell phones are bad enough. Otherwise, I think they look great. Love the idea of being able to filter and organize emails, and check who's calling, without taking my phone out.
  8. I winced. Feel for you, man.
  9. One more example of overzealous police with not enough training. The robber had an airsoft gun - he was asking to be shot for sure, but it's not like this was a firefight.
  10. Awesome! You must really love that Umbrella...
  11. I watched Boogie Nights for the first time in a long while the other night. Some truly memorable scenes in there. Particularly the two seperate robbery attempts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgJKA_lCR2c https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGp-4NP76MM
  12. I'll have to give my all-time favorite some thought, but this past year's favorite scene was this gem from the flawed-but-fascinating Noah... EDIT: Thought of one all-time favorite, from Sam Raimi's gleefully cinematic Evil Dead 2:
  13. The Rode boom pole is unusable, IMO. It's cumbersome and the locks feel terrible, it takes me twice as long to extend or collapse as a k-tek.
  14. I thought the movie was amateurish-looking at times, but it was weird and interesting enough to pull me through, and I actually enjoyed the weirdo ending. Worth a 'free' watch on Netflix for sure.
  15. From Wikipedia: "Actors and crew used their iPhones to communicate and store information such as the script—that way, they looked like guests casually using their phones. The phones were also used to record sound, in addition to digital recorders taped to each actor's body that were left running all day... The post-production tasks were as challenging as the production itself. Sound editors had to listen to the entire uncut tracks from the recorders taped to the actors' bodies in order to find the dialogue."
  16. I watched the film the other day. Interesting movie! I'm curious how they captured most of the location sound. My first guess was that they left a recorder running on each actor all day.
  17. Gotta get one of these just for the weird looks on set...
  18. I was just making light of the drama, which of course got me caught up in it... Thanks and understood, Jeff.
  19. Geez Senator, no call for drama. I'm not sure what you're trying to argue as far as the message board definition, so I'll just leave this here. I'm an ENG sound mixer in Boston, currently full time at a small production company. I've been in production sound for 4 years or so seriously. It would be easy enough to find me for any internet sleuth - there's a picture of me next to my name, and I've used this handle before elsewhere. I was about to change it, but I'll leave that for a day when I'm not being pressured to do so. This place (including your posts) have been an invaluable asset to me for the last 6 months or so. I'll leave it at that for the moment.
  20. OK, that's purely semantics. By definition, this is a message board. I do see what you're getting at, though, even if it is a bit unreasonable to expect on the wild west of the internet. I'm not the type to start asking questions and posting all over the place before getting a feel for the community, especially one full of professionals I hope to have the pleasure of working with someday. I'm feeling comfortable enough at this point to change that, now that I better understand how everyone acts around here. I'm a professional too, albeit a young one, and still learning. My real name will replace my handle soon enough. I wouldn't know how valued real names were without having lurked here for a while, anyway, and didn't know when I made the account (in order to view images, in the first place). Noticed my .gif disappeared. Are those not allowed here? (Clearly still figuring things out a bit!)
  21. True, and I realize that. I made the account before I had done much lurking, and had not realized that anonymity was frowned upon (like I said, getting a feel for the culture). Anonymity is the rule on basically every other message board around.
  22. (I don't use my real name currently, as I am mostly a lurker who only posts occasionally, but I will be switching it soon. I wanted to get a feel for the culture before throwing my real name into the mix. I don't think anything is wrong with that.)
  23. I find that a piece of waterproof medical/skin tape works great against skin. I put it right on the back of my countryman and it silences all skin noise instantly. Combine that with some moleskin and a half of a hush mic to quiet the shirt. Tape directly to chest. Works on most fabrics as long as the shirt isn't skin tight. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
  24. There have been plenty of truly great monster movies. The Host, Alien & Aliens, the original Godzilla, even. The new one had some truly inspired visuals and sound design (I saw it with an Atmos mix - unbelievable! ), even if the story was pretty flat. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
  25. I love the No MOS sticker on the cans. That's rad. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
