  1. Hey Derek, have you used that tour guide version? it's €100 euro cheaper here.
  2. You're right Wyatt. I guess I'm just so used to and feel a comfort from knowing every actor is wired that it feels kind of wrong knowing two of them won't be wired! or I could just buy a bigger board I suppose!!
  3. Hi all, I use a Sound Devices 778t and cl-9 on my cart. I have some scripted work coming up where we have some scenes with 8 actors speaking. I always like to wire every actor before the scene (as per normal!). We have two cameras so i like to use 2 booms which leaves me with 6 remaining channels for Radio mics. Obviously I am two channels short... Previously where i had a high channel count I have mixed down from my 664 onto one channel on my 788 but it's not pretty! I feel pretty confident I will get all the coverage i need on the booms for these scenes (famous last words!), but i am wondering what others do in these instances where they are limited to 8 inputs! Thanks in advance for any input :-)
  4. I love planting mics, a schoeps with the active cable sounds best of course but the best lav I think is the DPA 4080. The problem with other lavs is they're omni directional so once you start getting any distance you get that 'thinner' sound you're talking about. The DPA 4080 is more cardioid in pick up so doesn't sound as 'thin'. It's a 4060 with a tube. Best plant lav I have. Cheers.
  5. Yep exactly the same request as Gareth, the ability to switch between 12v and mains is important. Forget about the battery charging as Lithium batteries appear to be the way everyone is going now and they mostly require there own charger. Cheers, looking forward to seeing if it is something that is possible.
  6. How easy is it to make this mains powered? I would say 95% of the time I have mains power to my cart (I imagine its the same for most folk). I would be willing to pay more for a mains powered unit. Wouldn't care for any battery charging ability. I'm in the market for a unit like this right now. Thanks.
  7. I'm sorry if this has already been answered but is anyone using an orca bag with a 664 and if so is it the 32 or the 34. The 34 looks huge in the pictures, Thanks.
  8. Tack for that John, Nice coincidence!
  9. Very nice. I like the little plastic boxes there also, where are they from John? Cheers.
  10. Wow Stedicam shots haven't really gotten any better than that shot from "Bound For Glory", it's stunning.
  11. Great looking product, when is it available and any idea on pricing? I would second that about the input on the front, would serve much better on the rear I'd imagine.
  12. Hey there, another 664 user in search of the right bag to be used without the CL-6. Thanks.
  13. Great video. Made me feel tired watching it....
  14. The lack of adjustment has never been a problem for me Jeff. It is preset out if the box to be pretty much what you want to be seeing, a little brighter perhaps (which is good when looking for shadows!). Constantly getting DoP's looking at them saying how good the picture is :-). I hooked it up to my laptop once (a slow day on set) and really didn't need to adjust anything. I've been using them happily over a year now. Also they have pro level build quality and can be rack mounted. Cheers, Hugh.
  15. Hey James, I think it is hard to beat these for quality and reliability; http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/766059-REG/Blackmagic_Design_HDL_SMTVDUO_SmartView_Duo_Rackmountable_Dual.html Cheers..
  16. Hey J.D., Thanks for the reply, Are you saying have playback with no vocals and record the sound of their vocals live or have full playback which includes vocals and have them sing but don't record them (so it looks like they are singing live?). Both seem like good ideas depending on how competent the actors are . I had been reading about recording a few takes live and then using the best take as the Master for playback which would then be used to mime too. With those fully live recordings would the actors be getting a click track or some kind of IEM? Cheers!
  17. Hi all, I've being watching the film Control ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0421082/ ). It's a biopic film about the band Joy Division and from what I understand the actors (playing the band) played much of the gig scenes live themselves. It's a really great sounding movie and has me thinking about music recorded onset. I was wondering if people wouldn't mind sharing their experiences of recording live music for feature films. Thanks in advance, Hugh.
  18. Really hope there is a way to edit metadata on the files in this. it would be great to have it set up in the bag and leave the 788 on the cart!
  19. Also I don't think there are any places to hire audio gear should you need it. We had to get some lights there and I asked the guy if there was audio gear available and I think it was pretty rudimentary. All the best.
  20. Hey there, I did a doc. in Uganda last year and I would assume you have a local fixer, I would say that would be essential! We had a great guy if you would like his details I could get them for you (he was a very experienced film guy). I was running block 21 with no issues what so ever. Also I think I just turned up with my equipment and there was no carnet involved (that mightn't be the right way to do it but no one ever asked going in or out). Uganda is a great country, everyone speaks English which is handy if English is your first language and the people were warm and welcoming. Have a great time!
  21. I would agree with Robert here, just use the ACL203 to jam timecode, forget Genlock with the RED!
  22. Hey Damien and Brent thanks for the answers and sorry for the slow reply, i have very limited internet at the moment. IT was indeed the cursed "User Error" that was the problem (have had this problem before, hoping it will be resolved in the next firmware update). i had assumed (incorrectly) that i should monitor in M/S mode off the mixer. also the placement of the figure 8 is pretty important too as i've discovered. I was getting odd phasing issues without exact placement. ah the joys of testing equipment in the field! For anyone interested i'm really happy with the ambient emmeser/ schoeps Cmit setup. While i'm sure not the ultimate M/S setup in sound terms, it's physical size is brilliant. I'm doing an observational doc. (which i really think means just shoot everything, make a story in the edit) and using the cmit for exteriors with the Emmeser permanently attached. there is little to no difference in weight/handling and with the press of 2 buttons (and sven's help) i'm into stereo atmos. much easier than carrying an NT4 in a basket, unplugging cables etc. and no basket mods needed. Cheers guys, Hugh.
