  1. I just ordered a few ram mount components for plant mics but am also toying around with the idea of using them for antennas. I currently use loc line( what flex mounts are made of) screwed into a home depot aluminum bar. It's easy to pop on and off as well as change direction/ angles
  2. The difference is more or less noticeable depending on the type of lav used. I have sanken cos11 which are wired for the newer units ie not compatible with the 400 but the 400a. The smartNR at full definitely knocks some "hiss" out.
  3. Also be aware that when the camera rolls, the fan is now capable of a variable fan speed ie 10, 20, 30% etc. instead of a silent roll. It is set up in the menu.
  4. I use the MAHA MH-C801D 8 bay charger. 2700mah batteries on fast charge are roughly 1 hour, the soft charge is about 2 hours and the conditioning cycle is 13 hours. Larry, I use the Maha Imedion AAs. 2400mah and claim to retain 85% of its power in a year on the shelf.
  5. Hey Jan, Both Hammond and Budd make die cast boxes if that matters to you as well as the plastic ones. They both have some smaller sizes. http://www.hammondmfg.com/scpg.htm http://www.budind.com/die_cast_boxes.php
  6. My Dad got me hooked on Kottke about 20- 25 years ago as well as Dave Van Ronk On a separate note, I just finished working on a feature based around Beethoven's Opus 131. Wow, what a piece! It has 7 movements and was written for the quartet to play it straight through, no breaks or time to tune. It is intense. I believe the link is the 6th going into the 7th movement. If you have the time, its pretty awesome.
  7. Hey John, I finished making a pair of these recently. The only thing left is to add on belt clips. Does anyone have a recommendation or online supplier for them? Otherwise I have a few lectrosonics spring clips from some UMs thaI changed over to the wire clips. I also put in a 5k potentiometer for the headphones( thank you Wyatt for the help with this!). When I have boomed, I got annoyed with not having control over my own volume.
  8. http://www.mercenary.com/ I got gefell 210s through them. It took a little over a week since the mics had to be shipped over. I'd like to hear your opinion of the 310 after you get them. Best of luck
  9. Consider the rme octamic for an additional 8 pres/ AD converter. Sounds good has aes out as well as adat and direct outs. The D series is discontinued bit there is also the octamic II http://www.rme-audio.de/en_products_octamic.php
  10. Over time, your investment gets paid off and then income on gear becomes profit. When I started buying gear, I would do so based on upcoming projects. I bought a basic eng kit knowing I had a 3-4 month job coming up that would pay about 2/3 of what I invested. In one year, the gear was paid off and earning additional income.
  11. The whole 48048F is a "cheat"! The settings in BR are simply what you want the DAW to read. I would like to hear the results of your telecine tests with regard to timecode accuracy in the BR reports. Keep us posted and good luck
  12. Mogami is great and compared to generics or lower quality cables, what you state is definitely audible and quantifiable(although i personally have never done a test and measure). However, might it be the difference in cable manufacturer as opposed to the starquad? Have you compared Mogami quad to Mogami standard and noticed such a large difference?
  13. I think that's correct. Record a file and throw it into daw of choice. I use waveagent. File should read as 29.97 & 48/48. here's another thread http://jwsound.net/SMF/index.php?topic=4776.msg35445#msg35445
  14. Hey Jeff, I contacted globalmediapro regarding a similar situation. I wanted to use one of the V mount batteries for a distro(using d tap) while keeping it charged via dc aux in. Here is the relevant part of his reply "Charging while discharging is a very complex task the electric car manufacturers now try to solve. It requires special batteries and clever voltage controller which control draw and charge at the same time. Do NOT our batteries in this mode" Hope this helps
  15. Hey David, I'm not sure if I'm reading your post correctly. It seems you want 4 wireless. The qrx is 2 mono or 2 stereo meaning you need 2 qrx for 4 separate tx. Alternatively you can get 2 lectro stereo receivers for 4 transmitters as well. Although price is relevant I think there are many more factors to evaluate. I do not own a qrx so can not give a vs. opinion. If possible, I'd suggest try it before you buy it.
  16. Hey Jeff, Have you considered a switcher? I use http://www.westmountainradio.com/product_info.php?products_id=pg40s This one would not work with a lithium however. In addition to switching supplies, it also charges the SLA and keeps it topped off with a trickle.
  17. I understand. However, using an inverter for a control surface is not a huge deal. It doesn't need to be pure sine wave or handle a heavy load. The control surface doesn't touch the audio. If I remember correctly, when all 8 faders move in a bank switch, it pulled 1 amp via inverter from my cart power for a few milliseconds. I don't remember what it pulls when idle but frankly it's just some LEDs. Gotham had tried doing a dc mod but we got a lot of mixed midi signals although the faders worked fine like this
  18. I've thought about using lcmxu with the nano as well but decided against it. It's an app in your mix chain. I wanted to keep things simple. The behringer bcf2000 has a Jackie mode and is around 175 new. You can find used for around 100. It has motorized faders and has done the job.
  19. If it's the cold, perhaps hand warmers near screen?
  20. On a lark, I used the latest version of BR and recorded 96 tracks via USB to a bus powered Gtech mini 5400rpm( older intel MacBook w 2ghz ram) Recording 96 as a poly was more stable than monophonic. I only had the Uln8 hooked up but duplicated all the the tracks in BR. My point is, why bother daisy chaining a drive on FW? Leave that for your interface, whatever it is. If your doing high track counts(32+) and multiple interfaces then probably different busses and aggregates are desirable or madi or the rme system.
  21. Manhattan Mini Storage on 29 and 11th is 24 hour access. I think a 5' X 10' is somewhere around $250.

  23. I've seen blk 21 in times square with hash on every frequency. Useable, yes but I could be no further than 10 ft from talent and would get occasional hits

    Protools v9

I don't use Protools but I think its worth mentioning that the latest version is now software only, meaning you can use different interfaces or none at all to interact with the app. http://www.gearjunkies.com/news_info.php?news_id=5705
