  1. Oh btw I do like your plastic sleeve option as well. Best, Graham
  2. I have not used these particular connector covers, I could not find the ones I bought 12 years ago, that are still working fine btw. I have two carts so storing them is not a problem. If the OP is wearing a backpack while carrying over 1000 feet of xlr plus multiple breakout boxes and P.A.'s then, well he has other troubles. I understand if your working out of a bag these may not be for you but I don't and they work very well for keeping moisture out of connectors. Having waterproof connectors on every cable is an expensive and maybe not practical solution. Although I do see the merits, personally I have never used them. I work in Vancouver BC one of the rainiest cities in the PNW. I have lots of experience in the rain and this is my recommendation. Best, Graham

  4. Say yes and don't show up. Edit: ok this was meant to be kinda funny and maybe a little mean spirited but not really serious. I am not really the kind of person who would actually do this kind of thing. My response to this 'producer' would be " ok well my rate for this package is x and although I would love to do your project I cannot put that amount of gear out for less than my stated amount of x. Let me know and good luck" Best, G
  5. I like " it takes years of experience to get years of experience". If you don't actually know where the mic is supposed to go, hire someone who does!
  6. Here's three I like. Ephemere from Quebec, same brewery - Unibroue, as la fin fu monde and many other fantastic brews. Next is 'what the huck' from Fernie brewing co. It's quite good a huckleberry wheat ale. The water in Fernie BC is good and so is the brew! Last but definitely not least is another fine Quebec brew St. Ambroise Oatmeal stout.
  7. Might have more luck posting as a WTB or want to buy add in the for sale want to buy section of this forum. Just sayin.
  8. The capsul cases are great. I get them from the mountain equipment co-op in Vancouver. Pretty cheap maybe $5 or 6 bucks. The Plano cases are for fly fishing and I've found them at various stores. Cdn tire, Walmart, and some local fishing stores. They run anywhere from $6 to 12. The capsul cases are very narrow and light and last a long time. The Plano ones can break with one drop on the wrong spot. I've switched from the Plano cases to the capsuls this year. Graham
  9. Ambitious shots call for wireless mics. The only way to save dialogue with a live street. Wireless on talent, boom as ambient.
  10. I bought a pair of bates cold weather boots. They are made for the US military and are gortex with a separate thinsulate liner and a super comfy footbed liner. I liked them so much I ended up buying 3 pair. Look them up on eBay. They are sold new for close to $300 but you can pick em up for anywhere between 25 and 50. Look at this on eBay: Bates .Cold Weather Leather Military Boot GoreTex 15.5R http://bit.ly/UjOnBL That's my size but that's the search. I take them snowshoeing, and hiking in winter and I sit in my mixer chair all through my Vancouver Canada winters in them. I also highly recommend merino wool socks. That's all I own now. Merino wool is a way better under layer than synthetic. It stays scent free for a very long time and never gets that gross permanent smell like the man made stuff. Good luck!
  11. I have some 2040s I am thinking of selling. I have an rk3 with 3 mini tx's and 3 2040 rx's in the 650mhz range. As well as a 2040 rack mount quad box and 4 2040 rx in the 750mhz range. Plus assorted cables 48v adapters and mics to go with. Anyone interested can pm me! Graham.
  12. Thanks for the info Pete. I would love to see a few pics if its not to much trouble. I don't think I'll be cracking it open myself if that's the case. I am not accomplished enough to work on the internals.
  13. Thank you gentlemen. I am in Vancouver Canada. Glen I am working out in the deep woods on Monday. I will try to get in touch mid day on Tuesday. I think the turning point for me on this was when I bought a deva 5 and the screen is working perfectly. It really opened my eyes to how painful my 5.8 has become
  14. @new endian, thanks I will keep an eye out. @ Larry, thanks for clarifying.
  15. Anyone ever taken their deva apart? I have been having touchscreen issues on my 5.8 for quite a while, years in fact whenever the machine face gets warmed by the sun or when going from cold to warm or vice versa. I have been to busy and the problem has been relatively infrequent, that i haven't sent it in. Today was the worst it's been. I have spoken to Zaxcom service in the past and the advice I got was to push firmly on the 4 corners of the screen and shift it up and down. Well that doesn't do it. Any of you taken your devas apart and had a look inside? I am thinking about taking the screen out and cleaning it, seeing if there is anything lodged between the screen and chassis. Am I crazy, should I have a 'real' technician fix this for me? Anyone have any experience with this? Frustrated, Graham
  16. I have a request. Block 23 has some frequency restrictions because of shared frequencies with emergency services. My Lectro tx in block 23 are missing frequencies between 608 and 614. Can you please disable these in North America? I was unaware of the restrictions when I purchased the block 23 equipment and when trying to program my tx to clear unmodulated frequencies I went into this restricted area because it was very free of interference. Dialled up the freq on freq finder and zapped the smqv to a frequency I thought was ok and then the tx stopped working. I nearly shat my pants lol. I was in the middle of shooting and was taking hits on that particular tx and ran in to do a quick freq tune and then no signal on the tx. I thought it was broken or? The tx will change to a disabled freq and then just not transmit. Its a little annoying that the vrts still scan and show the unavailable freqs and so maybe to help avoid confusion while in the heat of battle you could disable those frequencies? Thanks, Graham
  17. Timecode is the sound departments responsibility.
  18. If I have one of these connected to my power max ultra, can I also have a regular lead acid battery connected to the ultra at the same time?
  19. Does it happen with fresh rechargeables or are the batteries mid charge or close to dying
  20. Seriously you guys? Knots? The knots magically appear if you pull either end of the cable through the middle of the coil and then try to unwind the cable. It is actually a very handy technique for putting equally spaced knots on a climbing rope. All you have to do to not get the knots is make sure your uncoiling the cable properly. Happy coiling!
