  1. Mounting it for sides, is exactly what I got it for.
  2. I've been looking to upgrade some lights on my cart. I found this.. http://www.wayfair.com/Summit-Lecterns-Portable-Dimmable-LED-Lectern-Table-Lamp-SLEDPO213-SMLC1002.html This light is a bit pricey.. but it seams to work really well. It clips on, its LED, it is dimmable, and will run off your 12VDC power. I bought two, and I'm going to mount them on my cart next week. If anyone is interested, I'll include some photos when I mount them.
  3. I can't believe no one here has posted this yet.. so it looks like I'll do it.! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmNjpEa19w4
  4. http://variety.com/2014/film/news/midnight-rider-death-was-criminal-negligence-haskell-wexler-1201122013/ Haskell, says criminal negligence
  5. I've worked on tracks before.. And we had a railroad personal on the shoot. This guy had a horn, and said that if he had to blow that horn, he was going to be pissed. Which meant that we needed to get OFF the tracks faster. This is an awful event indeed.
  6. I wasn't going to post anything about this, as I've been following it on Reddit for a while now.. Just another scumbag production company taking advantage of newbies thinking they are getting into 'the biz'. But.. I'm amazed at how fast the production can take down all the sites reporting on it. This alarms me.
  7. https://vimeo.com/84135659 Pains-taking work for sure.. But I'm glad it's persevered. -Richard
  8. I take this entire thing with a grain of salt. However, I do understand that some of the best directors in history, are a$$holes in which the crew hates. I took it for 'buck it up, and don't complain' side.. happiness aside.
  9. Thought this was worth a read http://www.theblackandblue.com/2013/02/21/5-lessons-house-of-cards/
  10. Matt, If you select <No Scene>, you'll get files named T01.WAV, T02.WAV, T03.WAV, etc.. If you select (lets say "A") as your scene, your files will look like SAT01.WAV, SAT02.WAV, etc.. Like I said, it's not a big deal as I name my files A01.WAV, etc.. they will just have to be T01.WAV instead under each new days folders. p.s. Good bit of skill there chris. Thanks -Richard
  11. Greetings Matt, Got a chance to play with this more today. When I remove the <no scene> option, and create a scene.. you get files like this.. S1T01.WAV So, am I to assume that the '..TXX.WAV' is allays going to be the case? I'm so used to just making the files any names I want such as in the 702T, 744T, and 788T. I guess it's not a huge deal. I set mid-level to create a new directory for each day. My files will always going be T01.WAV in each directory per day.
  12. Sure.. If my question was, 'where do I find the take list?'.. But it wasn't, was it?
  13. OK, looked though the manual.. How does one change the file names? Root level, its starts at T01.WAV.. can't change that?
  14. Humm.. You might be removing that #3 off your list there Senator.. LED lighting has taken a hold in the biz, and lighting is getting more and more computerized. Not to mention that newer cameras need less lights these days.. I'm not saying that a HMI is going away.. but I'm definitely seeing changes in the lighting areas now.
  15. @rcoronado, I have no doubt there are many experts in every field.. The problem is our entire society discounting them. Everyone is a god dam expert.. or they think they are. @Henchman, True true words.. I don't know when this happened.. but somewhere along the line, experience got substituted for a 'template'.. or an 'app'.. or a 'plugin'. or in our case.. somehow producers think if they can just 'buy' the right audio gear, it will somehow solve all the problems of hiring an expert in audio. In that, somehow that gear would just magically set itself up, and record it all at the push of a button. -Richard
  16. Congrats to the nominations, I just found this little tid bit. http://www.theverge.com/2014/1/20/5329024/behind-the-oscar-nominated-soundscape-of-the-desolation-of-smaug -Richard
  17. If anyone here is a skeptic about the loss of 'experts' in this country.. try this little experiment. If you know anyone in your family that is a doctor, or the next time you see your doctor.. ask him this.. "Has the Internet helped you with your job?" I'll bet you immediately get an eye roll from him, followed by a shaking of his head... and if he's in a talkative mood, he'll tell you a few stories of everything that wrong in our society here now.
  18. I ran across this article.. http://thefederalist.com/2014/01/17/the-death-of-expertise/ .. and it got me thinking about a the new world in which we live in. In 1993, I had a conversation with a guy by the name of Tim Styker. Before the days of the Internet, there was something called the BBS.. But this guy knew this was the beginning of global communications explosion. He ended up writing a book about the coming 'Super Democratic Revolution'. For the most part this was spot on.. People being empowered by sharing knowledge.. basically.. But what we didn't know at the time, was the down side of this. The loss of the expertise. Because now, hell, everyone is an expert.. Unfortunately, this has caused a massive loss in the real value that one brings to a position in a job. Employers and consumers have trivialized every field, and not just in the Hollywood business either. Many employers just seem to want a 'button pusher' now. In the past if you were a Doctor, Policeman, or Fireman, you were an expert.. Today, people don't consider any of those experts, but just the person in that position. Every time I find myself in a job interview for the sound mixer position, it seems like a producer should be asking me the question of what I bring to the table as far as my expertise.. But, more and more of what I get is more like.. what kind of free shit can we get from you! A very interesting read about the devaluing of labor in this country, though. -Richard
  19. Often, on set, the camera conversation comes up.. I always tell everyone, 'you have got to be crazy to buy a camera'.. this of course is met with a lot of troubled looks.. but when I explain that each year that I've been in business, I've seen camera crazy, after camera craze.. When I started it was mostly film.. but the first crazy in DV was the Panasonic dvx100b, followed by hvx200, then came the DSLR craze, RED, phatom, and arri.. now it's the blackmagic, gopro, and beyond.. it seams like these cameras come in, last about a year and fade into obscurity.. Why on earth, would you buy ANY camera for filming for 2 weeks, and a literal shelf life of 12 months? Thank god sound equipment last a lot longer! -Richard
  20. http://www.eoshd.com/content/11914/red-cameras-absent-oscar-cinematography-best-picture-nominees Don't get me wrong.. I like the RED cameras.. despite some small issues. -Richard
  21. no, mail order sound mixer now.
  22. I'm now in Norway, where I'm adjusting to my new life here.. -Richard
  23. IRS audit examination completed.. end result.. IRS owes me money!! The process mainly focuses on mileage, and capital expenses. I had numerous friends in the business tell me they were hit with schedule C inquires too. Fortunately, I walked in with 2 containers of filed receipts and well documented travel and expenses. I learned a bit. While walking out of the IRS building, my accountant leans over to me and says, "you know they'll not be auditing you again for the next decade". p.s. and due to the education I received from this, I'm amending the next year 2012, for another 5K they owe me.. -Richard
