  1. Thanks - that's what I've ended up with. Guess I'm always a little reluctant to crank that much gain in camera.
  2. Just putting a scratch track down to camera, and finding it's too low at line level, and too hot at mic level - any thoughts? How are most people running there ERX's?
  3. Is the waist strap available for pre-order as well?
  4. I can't believe I'm so excited about a bag coming out. I think I have issues.
  5. Did my first little job with the 633 yesterday. The small faders are not a problem at all. I'm 6'7" with giant hands and with the pop-up faders I found it no problem at all to mix - especially knowing that the ISO-tracks are there to back me up. And at the risk of starting a mix-philosophy debate, working in post I heard way too much over-anxious fader riding ruining a good take more so than the occasional natural dynamics of dialogue. Once again thank god for ISO-tracks. I'm impressed with the range of power options but in all honesty, if my bag power drops out, my rads are dead anyway so all I'm recording is dead air anyway. It feels a little like overkill without a DC output from the mixer. The power protect feature that will close down the recording properly is pretty cool tho
  6. Have just been mucking around with Unveil on a particularly live room, and I'm blown away at how effective it is. There's not excuse for not utilizing all the tricks in our location recordists arsenal for minimizing reverb, but it's still great to know what's available.
  7. Hi All, Just wondering if anyone out there is using the Neumann KM81 D (Digital)? Is the onboard A/D worth the hassle of being limited to only digital inputs? Any hassle with using 110 ohm cables? Just deciding between this and the analogue version...
  8. Thanks Pete, that's pretty innovative, but still won't give me what I want ( which is direct digital outs ). And, to be bloody minded, it's pretty standard for a recorder to have direct outs. But I digress. This will be the final setup. O2R96 feeding PT and two 788's. Simplest and most flexible. And yes I will use a separate device for track playback...
  9. Trust me Pete, Michael's Sonosax rig is the one I cant afford! (I bought his Ambient slate). I would love to get it, but I cant see a lot of use for it past this gig. Wish I could.... In a slightly different direction, has anyone here locked two 788's with two CL9's? Just wondering how they behaved (ie does one CL-9 become a master in terms of the switching or do they only operate the 788T they are attached to). Also, can you bus the to the aux on one 788 to create submixes from both units? Those questions aside, I still need to direct out to PT and the 788 doesnt have direct outs. SIgh. Why?
  10. Metacorder is interesting, I've been kind of waiting for a reason to go down that path for a while. It might be a little redundant however as I still intend to record to 788 as a safety, and PT is much more flexible (and I've been using it for fifteen years) . Either way, I am definitely moving away from the idea of doing the audio routing etc "in the box" and definitely front ending with a mixer. Would love to go Sonosax, but just cant justify the expense (this is a four month gig, then its back to my regular cart setup). I'll post where it all ends up...
  11. It should be a pretty controlled environment so the need for rugged isn't as crucial as usual - I hope!! I'm leaning towards the console because the drawback of PT is limited rerouting whilst recording, which could be important. It will be a handful on my own, but I am hoping to have a dedicated PT operator, with me handling the mixing/sub-mixing duties.
  12. Hi Guys, This is probably old news in here, but I'd like some opinions... Have a major upcoming gig that requires a lot of fancy footwork (in terms of IFB, submixes, pre-recorded material playback, on-set ADR - all sorts of crazy). So I'm thinking PT for the flexibility that it will give me. I'm torn between going down the route of an external mixer (such as a DM2000, or the Presonus 24.4.2) to do all my routing and just use PT as the recorder (with 788's for backup), or to go with a controller such as the c24 and do all my routing "in the box". Any thoughts, feedback and/or life lessons gratefully appreciated. Cheers, James "Nova" Nowiczewski
  13. Think I've posted this before, but these are the bomb... http://www.lockitbuddy.com/website/index.html And nothing reminds post that there is double system audio like audio timecode on track 2....
  14. Www.lockitbuddy.com Built for 5d's, useful for any camera without useable timecode features...
  15. This looks like a good little problem solver, but I was wondering if anybody had sourced the tools/connector to make up cables for this? Could add up quite quickly if I have to them custom made for that connector...
  16. I'm also considering a change to my cart setup. I'm pretty happy with distribution (I have a couple BDS's as I swap between bag and cart work constantly), but am thinking of going over to a larger capacity battery to stop the constant battery shuffle. What's the current thinking for larger capacity batteries and chargers?
  17. Here's something a little more agricultural, my bag based cart setup. Im using the RF multi in the top of the bag which works quite well... file://localhost/Users/tallguytv/Pictures/iPhoto%20Library/Modified/2012/22:03:2012/IMG_0625.jpg
  18. Yeah tell me about it...I was going to post that it looked sexy, but I thought you guys would think I was a freak. I forgot about the demographic in here...
  19. And they look bloody awesome - cant wait to get my hands on one! James Nowiczewski
  20. Speaking of bend, anybody have a neat way of straightening my 411 antennas? More for aesthetics I guess, but there is a probably a mild performance increase from straighter antennas.
  21. I have used the global media pro batteries for a few years, and have found them to be inconsistent. I have had to replace the chargers a couple of times as well. Now that I am running a 788 with 6 411's, they are just not up to scratch and I am in the process of replacing them with IDX. They can be a funny mob to deal with, but I have never had any issues with delivery. So why did I persist? They are incredibly cheap in comparison, but are definitely a case of you get what you pay for.
  22. Thanks guys. Suspected that was the case, but just making sure I wasn't missing something obvious.
  23. Yep I've read page 71, but it doesn't suggest that the track name will be written into the monophonic file name, only into the metadata. So I am guessing that is the case, but I was hoping someone maybe had a magic bullet for me that I was missing. Could this be a useful option to suggest for future firmware updates?
