  1. I will use a gun outside, but indoors I prefer a Sennheiser 50. But seriously I think this sums up the situation... Reposted from a friend of a friend: Tough to argue with plain and simple talk from Australia, posted in a NY Times blog today: "From 1984-96 we had a over a dozen of these slayings in Australia, largely copycat killings prompted by media coverage in the US and at home. After one lone nut gunman killed 35 people in 1996, Prime Minister John Howard banned all semi-automatic rifles and pump-action shotguns, and introduced highly restrictive gun licensing laws. Hundreds of thousands of guns were bought back and destroyed. Do you know how many mass shootings we have had since then? Not one. In addition, firearm homicides have dropped 59% with no corresponding increase in non-firearm murders. People kill people, not guns? Rubbish. Guns give the mentally ill ruthlessly efficient killing power, and escalate domestic violence from assault to homicide. The US needs to act now, and the gun lobby needs to wake up to its culpability."
  2. Hello JWSound, I am a sound engineer in Portland, Oregon available for ENG, boom operator and utility work. Having worked in audio and lighting in many capacities for several years I have assembled an ENG bag and begun to seek location sound work in earnest. I would like to work with other mixers as a boom op and utility to continue to hone my skills, and am available for documentary ENG style mixing as well. I have a good ear and solid trouble shooting skills as well as firm grasp of set etiquette and a passion for film making. I look forward to working on many exciting projects in the near future. Cheers, Alistair Alistair Duff sfasti@gmail.com 415-517-8546
  3. Hi Paul, What a warm welcome! You've reminded me that I haven't introduced myself to the group yet...doh! I live in Portland now but lived in San Francisco for about twenty years mostly doing live sound. Ive moved into sound for picture because its what I really enjoy. I am inspired by your good attitude and friendly manner. Keep on keeping on and good luck in 2013. Alistair Duff
  4. I think I will need to build it myself.. which Ill enjoy doing, However I need to put resistors inline to prevent shorting but am not sure of the correct value. Anyone?
  5. Thanks Sergio, But that cable would just adapt mono TA3 balanced to XLR. What I am looking for is a stereo unbalanced TA3 to mono 3.5. Sound Devices have an unbalanced TA3 out on the MixPre-D that would be perfect for a hop or IFB if I could send left and right to mono. Alistair
  6. Has anyone found a small summing amp to go from an unbalanced stereo TA3 out (MixPre-D) to a 3.5 mono to feed a G3 Tx?
  7. Then there is this http://www.abc.net.a...12/s3604034.htm
  8. Thanks Chad, that is a great video and still comes up top when searching for a lav shootout. I really like the sound of the ME-2 and don't really like the rode. You did another video http://vimeo.com/9776528 of just the ME-2 against the COS11 and in that one the COS11 really blows the Sennheiser away.
  9. +1 on a recorder for the 302 or even the MixPre-D though I'm not sure where they would put the button.
  10. Looking at the big picture the SD price increase isn't that big of a deal really. It was just very sudden and cost me money. I'm over being mad. Calling the price increase bait and switch was inaccurate and unfair to SD. The 664 is really cool and had me from the moment I saw it. Will report on how cool once I can purchase one. Thanks for putting things in perspective guys.
  11. I'm a total fan boy of Sound Devices products, however after their abrupt and large price increase I am looking at how much Zax offers for the money. With Zaxnet it might be a deal breaker. I will continue to use my Mix Pre-D on my boom but may choose Zax as my big investment for their integrated digital approach. Alistair
  12. I completely agree it is amazing value compared to 10 or 20 years ago and considering the importance of the gear to the job the price is not unreasonable. Its the immediacy and extent of the change that seems abrupt, especially in the brand new 664. Alistair
  13. Just made a small donation! This site has been very helpful and a great source of information as I assemble my first modern location rig. I really appreciate the opportunity to learn from veteran mixers. Thanks for your work. Alistair Duff
