  1. it's not just the simple phase inversion that's needed. As you are stating above the same input signal is needed phase-reversed AND in-phase simultaneously. To achieve that, you need to split the signal first. Should not be impossible, but it might not be as simple and elegant as you think
  2. Even if the advantages of higher sample rates may not be immediately obvious, what would be the downside? We could just record @96kHz couldn't we?
  3. Any two or more frequencies can and will interact with each other and possibly create a new frequency, the "beat frequency" as Jay pointed out above. This may happen across the entire spectrum, but it is only relevant to us, if the resulting "beat frequency" falls in the audible range. If and when it does 48kHz can easily sample th result of this effect. Once the signal has been digitized there will be no more interaction of frequencies. Only once this is played back could there be new beat frequencies, created by the room - if any. So for this phenomenon, as Jay says, we don't need more than 48kHz. Actually, since we don't want random interaction of frequencies and beat frequencies, this is an argument for lower sample rates
  4. although the Rode concealer is quite new, so your "yes, of course" should be a "yes, perhaps"
  5. For me, I don't mind so much if these clips are included or not or if they are factored into the price. What's important to me is that, one way or another, I have them when I need them. It would be very helpful if Zaxcom had made it clearer that this fairly important accessory is not part of the package. I could have ordered them straight away with the ERXs instead of gaving to order them separately AND wait another few weeks (yes, weeks) to actually get them.
  6. No, that's policy. They mention that on their website, albeit a bit tucked away: "optional belt clip". I think selling this device without a belt clip is grotesque, but they are not very expensive. And I also had to buy belt clips for my Lectro tx, which are fairly expensive.
  7. I have used the DADs a lot. I use the Lectro and Zax versions almost every day, and I rent out the Sennheiser EW version. Every single one of them has seen a lot of abuse, but I have not had a single failure. The key really is to tighten the connector, but that's an error you'll make once, as the resulting noise is absolutely horrible. Other than that I don't apply any special treatment (I also don't use the supplied tool for tightening) and it works well - so far...

    Booming

    Anything you didn't understand?

    Booming

You could use an MS mic, but treat it as two separate mics and not as stereo. If you find that you can't boom fast enough, you'll at least have the other talker on the second mic. If you are an inexperienced boomer, using two mics on the boom is a lot mote difficult. It's much heavier and more prone to handlung noise. Good booming with one mic is better
  10. but the adaptive mode makes it somewhat unpredictable to know when the fan is speeding up and this mode makes it harder for post to filter the fan noise. With rhe leafblower mode there is at least no doubt. You know when that thing kicks in
  11. I'm sure that's true, but in my case it was the ERX2. But I mean, they were repaired on production's insurance so it's not a big deal. I'm still using them. I found adequate cases for them. Still, those cases somewhat negate the size/weight advantage the ERXs have.
  12. thanks, that'd be great. Your REDs seem to be fairly quiet and as I'm starting a project shot on RED tomorrow, I am very interested
  13. I guess so. Point is, however, the OP's cable has a male TA4 and that won't fit into a male plug on the BDS
  14. The point of the D-sub is not really to unplug it very often. That's what the fan-out is for. If you unplug it in the field, what do you plug in instead?
  15. ok, i have seen that a few times, too. I'm curious, how could you determine the reflections were coming from inside that ball?
  16. Robert, which fan settings do they use?
  17. I think you're right about 1st AD, but not so much director. His primary concern should be the artstic element (if any) of the production. It's not his job to think about money or time. It's his job to deliver a great movie with great performances. He needs a competent AD and production team at his side who will need to worry about the schedule. In my mind, overtime is their fault
  18. Although on the Remote Audio BDS the TA4 would have to be female. Could be for an older version though
  19. Of course the workflow needs to match, it always does. No, the audio TC wouldn't be able to Genlock the cameras, but neither would a slate. But the first frame would pretty much still be in sync, wouldn't it? It would only be a way to help sync sound and picture later.
  20. you're right. And to him I recommended the B5D.
  21. Is there a particular reason why TC on an audio track won't work here?
  22. indeed. But BoomBoom's timining was also impeccable
  23. I just brought up the b5d because you were mentioning the bed scene where you thought you heard reflections from inside the "ball". So there you would've been better off using the b5d. but not outside, that's for sure
  24. Inside you might be better off using this: http://www.schoeps.de/en/products/b5d There is a thread here devoted to it, and some here consider it a brilliant product
  25. I am not arguing any of this. But if you are on a tight budget and are facing a camera crew that's unwilling to put more than one box on thr camera, the G3 IEM TC/audio option could be a good possibility. I used to be on many shoots where I provided the TC feed via the G2/3 wireless to several cameras. It has always worked very well. Still, once I had a Lockit, I never looked back. I will add this though, on the first project on which I used three brand new ERX, two of them broke, after a simple drop. On one the display went dark, on the other the side of the battery compartment broke off. I can't count the number of times a G3 receiver has been dropped to the floor. Barely scratched the surface
