  1. There are only a couple of weeks left to take advantage of our anniversary special. Until the end of October, we are offering a 10% discount on our already low labor rates. We are an official service center and are factory trained for all ZAXCOM wireless and mixer/recorder equipment. We are factory trained for Lectrosonics and Sennheiser wireless. We can perform most repairs on Sound Device equipment. We have vast amounts of experience on older mixing panels such as, Cooper Sound, and SQN. If you do not see it listed above, give us a call. Chances are that we can help you out. If you have any questions, or have any equipment you need to have serviced/repaired, please contact us at: (855) 4DWSOUND (439-7686), locally in L.A.: (661) 297-2334, or by e-mail at: Service@dwsoundservice.com
  2. For those of you on the west coast, If you find you need to send your Fusion units in, you no longer have to send it all the way to NJ. D.W. Sound Service now services all ZAXCOM products out of our L.A. based facility. If you have any questions our e-mail is: service@dwsoundservice.com
  3. I could do the work for you but, the better choice would be to sell your 201 and upgrade to a 211 or 411. Your out of pocket would be approx the same and you would have a better unit in the long run.
  4. It was good seeing some old friends, and meeting some of the new kids on the block. Hopefully we will be able to keep this going as an annual event. Thanks again Mike, and Senator's credit card.
  5. Jerry is great. He really does know his stuff. But, for those of you on the west coast, you have a local facility that has a much experience on the older Lectosonics VHF 185/187, and UHF 190/195, as anyone. I have been servicing Lectrosonics equipment for almost 20 years. Most of those through a local dealer here in L.A. Now with my own service facility, D.W. Sound Service.
  6. Well stated RVD. I can't add any more other than to say, Crew, you have our condolences and we will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. RIP Dixie.
  7. In some respects the answer will be yes. But, there are some proprietary circuits to which Zaxcom holds patents that Glenn has told me he will not let me play with. I fully understand his reasoning. These repairs will have to take place at the factory.
  8. D.W. Sound Service was closed last week. I spent this time in Pompton Plains, New Jersey, receiving the training I needed to be able to service the line of ZAXCOM products that are used in the field by production sound mixers. Especially for those of you on the west coast, our plan is to be able to give you the same quality service that you get from Glenn and his staff in New Jersey. But, we will be able to do it locally. The advantage to you is cost and time. Not only will you save in shipping costs, but also in the time it takes to ship your equipment to the factory. We are are striving to keep our turn-around time as low as possible. But for a few rare exceptions, we will be able return your equipment to you within 10 working days (two weeks). I had the opportunity that most in the industry don't get. Not only did I get to kick the tires and see how well this equipment performs, I got to peek under the hood, check out the engine and see how it does all the the cool things it does. I walked into ZAXCOM's factory with, not unlike others out in the field, some pre-conceived ideas about their products. Because of the complexity of much of the ZAXCOM equipment (there is a lot going on inside the cases of this gear), I thought the inside would be just as complex. I fully expected to see mountains of PC boards, and tons of components. I was pleasantly surprised to find out how wrong my ideas were. To say the least, I was quite impressed. There have been posts galore about all of the stuff that ZAXCOM products do (Zaxnet, Neverclip, etc...). I am going to post from a technician's perspective. I found out that one of Glenn's design teams concepts is "simple". And in this case, simple is a good thing. They try to design a piece of equipment to do as much as possible, with as little circuitry as they can. They believe that more is not always better. The more parts and components they put inside, the more chance that something can go wrong. For example, The MAXX, with everything that it does, has less than 5 separate PC boards and very few cables and connectors. And if you want to add the TX option to the unit, there are only 2 small boards with strong connectors to be added. I believe that this concept of "Simple" is one of the main reasons that ZAXCOM products are stable and reliable. Because of what D.W. Sound Service does, One of things that I looked for, and was most impressed by is what I refer to as "Serviceability". ZAXCOM understands because of the nature of the beast that this industry is, even the best designed and built equipment will eventually fail. Out in the field, stuff happens. They design their equipment with this in mind. Displays, pots and knobs, connectors and jacks are easy to get to. You do not need to completely dis-assemble any piece of equipment to repair, or replace any component, or part. All test points for tuning and testing are easy to access. This helps to minimize the down time of your equipment, and allows us to get it back in your hands faster. If you are looking to buy any RF, or recorder equipment, I would strongly suggest that you consider ZAXCOM for your next purchase. If you have any ZAXCOM equipment that is needs service work performed, please feel to contact us. We look forward to working with ZAXCOM, and we especially look forward to working with you, the ZAXCOM customer. D.W. 9. I use a SanDisk multi card reader. It reads CF, SD and other cards. But, I have used the same one that Scott mentioned above. They work great too.
  10. D.W. Sound Service will be closed from Tues Sept 24, through Friday Sept 27. We will reopen again on Monday, Sept 30. We will be taking a trip to visit one of our Mfg's to get updated training for repair/service of their equipment. When we return, we will have an expanded inventory of equipment that we will be able to service. We look forward to this exciting time to give you even better service. If you have any questions, please contact us at: (855) 4DWSOUND, locally in the L.A. area at: (661)297-2334. We can be reached via e-mail at: service@dwsoundservice.com
  11. We have finally reached our anniversary. For our loyal customers, I would like to say a big thank you. Without you, we would not be here today. If you have not given us a chance to show you the good service we provide, I invite you to take advantage of our special labor rates to help us celebrate. From now until the end of October, we will have a 10% discount on our already low labor rates. We service almost everything on your cart, or in your bag. From Mixers (Cooper Sound, SQN, to Sound Devices) to Wireless Mics (Lectrosonics and Sennheiser, I am factory trained for both). We have a couple of big irons in the fire, that will expand the amount of equipment we will be able to service. Contact us for any questions you might have. We can be reached by phone at (855) 4DWSOUND (439-7686, locally in the L.A. area at: (661)297-2334. We can be reached by e-mail at: service@dwsoundservice.com
  12. The UCR201 is now a legacy item (discontinued), and has been for several years. The last firmware update that I am aware of is v4.2. If there is any beyond that, I'm sure that Larry can chime in, and let us know. If you want/need your firmware update to v4.2, I can do it for you.
  13. Congrats on your Emmy, Jan. You are well deserving. And, may there be many more in your future.
  14. Wow! Are you sure this was not written about me?? I guess I am as Curmudgeonly as it gets.
  15. Congrats, but, now you really put the pressure on the rest of us.
  16. I'm kinda old school that way. I guess those weekly beatings we got from Ed Somers paid off.
  17. I always thought it would look cool, to have a boom pole that looked like a long tree branch.
  18. If you are using the same RX and TX's in your bag, are they on the same freq's you normally use? If not, it may be a co-ordination problem. If they are, it could be a location issue. If you have a strong enough outside interference mixing with the RF that is already present in the bag, all bets are off. It could be generating spurs on frequencies that are driving your RX crazy. The first thing I would do is make sure the freq's are co-ordinated. If they are, I would turn off the LMa TX's, one at a time. If the problem goes away, I would suspect some outside interference at the location your are at. If it is still there, then I would turn off the DR-680. Hopefully by this time, the problem will have gone away. If not, do a RF scan, looking for possible interference on or very near the freq you are using. Lastly, if the problem is still there, it may be in the 201, or even the TX being used with the 201. It could be that the RF output power in the TX has dropped quite a bit.
  19. You have our condolences, Jan. Our thoughts and prayers go with you.
  20. In a couple of weeks we will be celebrating our 1 year anniversary (time flies when you are having fun, huh?) For those who gave us a chance to see how we can be of service to you, I want to say a big THANK YOU. We would not be celebrating, had you not been here. I would like to invite the rest of you to check us out and see how it is that we can be of help to you. We have come a long way in the last year, and look to continue to grow, so that we can serve you even better. We have added equipment to our list of service items over the last year. We have several irons in the fire right now, and look to add even more in the very near future. It is my hope for the future that when you have any equipment on your cart that needs servicing, the first name that you think of is, D.W. Sound Service. I have been in this industry for over 20 years. I have experience servicing mixers/recorders, such as Sound Devices, Cooper, SQN just to name a few. I specialize in wireless, Lectrosonics, Sennheiser, Shure, etc... I am the only technician on the west coast that is factory trained on Lectrosonics. I am one of the only techs anywhere, who still services/repairs the old Lectro VHF (185/187), and UHF (190/195) wireless gear. While we do not service Mics, or communication radios (Motorola, Kenwood) at the moment, we have contacts that can, who's service meets our high standards. We have competitive labor rates, we have more experience, and we can get your gear back to you faster than most anyone else. Our average turn around time is about 6 working days. That even includes time to order parts, if the need arises. Our test equipment rivals any service department that you can find, except for some of the factories. Check us out and see how we may be of service to you. We can be reached by phone, toll-free at: (855) 4DWSOUND (439-7686), local in the L.A. area at (661)297-2334. Our e-mail address is: service@dwsoundservice.com. Or, you can look us up on the internet: www.dwsoundservice.com
  21. I think Franky hit the nail on the head. I believe we are blessed with having Mfg's that actually listen to the end users, and at least try to add what they hear into the end product. Do all of the suggestions and ideas make it, no. But, in the 20+ years I have been around this industry, I have see far more end user ideas get adopted, than get tossed out. Check and see how that works in most other industries.
  22. Make sure that your SD or CF card is formatted as a FAT32 volume. Then per Sound devices instructions. "From the zip archive, extract the file within named 664_1.05.prg file. Copy this .prg file to the root level of a SD or CF memory card."
