  1. I'm sure the talent will like the idea of not having to carry around those pesky heavy AA batteries.
  2. Congrats RVD. Rich couldn't have picked a better person for the job.
  3. D.W. Sound Service will be closed TuesWed April 9-10, 2013. We will be in Vegas attending NAB. We look forward to see everyone who will be at the JWsound/RAMPS get-together.

  5. Our wives must be related. My wife keeps telling me the same thing. But, I'll be there on Tues and Wed. I need some additions to my wardrobe.
  6. What rig do you take on the road with you?? I have a Yaesu FT-857D that I take portable. I also work with our local Sheriff station, as communications support for their Baker to Vegas relay team. David White - KO6FN
  7. When I am not repairing equipment, I am a Motorcycle Training Instructor. My garage is full of two wheelers.
  8. I met Glenn 20 years ago. One of the nicest guys I have had the pleasure to work with.
  9. One of the original "freak" shows is Jerry Springer. Several years ago he was a guest on one of our local morning news shows. He was asked if the people he had on his show were just actors. He said that they were real people. In a country that has a population over 300 million, approx 10% were just like the guests on his show. He also said that the viewers would lose interest in his show, long before he ran out of potential guests. I find that to be rather frightening.
  10. This is one of the problems with having 1000 cable channels. They need content to fill up all the broadcast time they have. Do any of you think that Honey Boo Boo would be on the air, if we still had the limited channels of 40 years ago?
  11. Congrats to your son, Richard. You have every right to be proud papa.
  12. And there is usually no one around with a mop to clean up the mess, Larry. In "theory", antenna polarization plays a big role in the characteristics of the signal at the RX antenna. If you have a TX antenna that is horizontally polarized, and an RX antenna that is vertically polarized (a difference of 90 degrees), you have the potential of seeing a signal loss of 3db or more. While I have not seen it in practical application at the VHF/UHF frequencies we use, I have seen the results in ham radio freqs at 50Mhz and below. And these results have been rather dramatic. Over the years I have been in this business, I have talked to many mixers who swear that having the RX antenna at right angles to each other have made all the difference in the world.
  13. Drew, I doubt that these items will make their way to me but, We will keep our eye and ears open for you.
  14. Another month has arrived, and that means a new monthly discount offered by D.W Sound Service. For the month of March, we have decided to go with Hawks-Woods. If you have any Hawks-Woods equipment that is need of repair/service, we will give you a 20% discount on our already low labor rates. In he very near future you will see us advertising in the 695 quarterly, and CAS quarterly. We are here to help you keep your sound equipment operating at factory specs. If you have any questions, you can reach us at (855) 4DWSOUND (439-7686). Locally in the LA area (661) 297-2334. 15. While not as impressive as a TX from Lectro, we will be in attendance and adding some goodies to the pot for the raffle. It has been several years since I have been to this , but if it is as good as the last time, I'm sure that a fun time will be had by all.
  16. I am not sure how this would work today from an operations standpoint but, looking at it on a pure technical basis, I am rather impressed. The routing of the wires and cable is extremely well organized, and the soldering is clean, with most of the solder connections protected by shrink-wrap. The design is well thought out. I have worked on equipment from major mfg that were not this well done. The trouble I see is exactly as Philip mentioned above. The caps are almost a old as I am. As they begin to fail, if they have not done so already, your noise floor will rise quite a bit, or you will have no audio at all. The first thing I would do, if you were planning to put it to use in the field, is change out all of the caps. This could end up costing more than the purchase price, and would be a bit time consuming. I just finished doing the same thing to an old Kenwood ham transceiver. It is a slow process. The second concern I see is at the bottom of several of the boards. In a couple of the pictures, there is some type of contamination on the bottom of the boards. It may be nothing at all and can just be cleaned, but, it may also be something serious. Without getting a close look, it would be hard to tell. My best advise would be, Buyer beware. BTW, I saw the blue Zero box and half expected to see an old Vega quad package.
  17. Another month is upon us. It is time for another monthly service discount from D.W. Sound Service. We have chosen SQN for Feb. If you have any SQN mixers that need repair/service, you will receive a 20% discount on our already low labor rates. We have all the documentation and equipment needed to properly service your SQN units. Also, if you have not read our earlier post in a different thread, as of last week, D.W. Sound Service is operating on Solar Power. We had our new system turned on last Friday. Not only are we doing our part for the environment, but, by keeping our costs down, we can keep our prices low. also.
  18. We got the PTO from SCE yesterday. We went solar live at 4:15 yesterday afternoon. I guess I can truthfully say that D.W. Sound Service office is now solar powered.

  20. If you have any other MFG you would like to see discounted in the future, please drop us a line. We will do what we can to make it happen.
  21. We hope that you all had a great Christmas and we wish you all a great upcoming year in 2013. To help you ring in the new year we are announcing our monthly service special for Jan. We have chosen PSC as our first discount of 2013. If you have any Professional Sound Corp that is in need of service/repair work, you will receive 20% off our already low labor rates.
  22. D.W. Sound Service will be closed Monday and Tuesday, 12-24/25 for Christmas. We will also be closed on Monday and Tuesday, 12-31-2012 / 01-01-2013 for the New Years Holiday. If you need your equipment serviced during the holiday break, we will be open the rest of the holiday weeks, including the weekends, if need be.
  23. That's where we are at now. Upgraded from a 100A to a 200A panel today. Solar system wired into the new panel. City inspectors showed up and signed off on the install. Now it is a waiting game for the PTO from SCE.
  24. I'm kind of fond of one I found at NAB a few years back, that fits my end of the business. The front says, "Do you really want to know what's wrong?" The Back says, "Or, do you just want me to fix it?"
