  1. What is the audio cables for AES?

Need to use like 110obm high quality cable, cannot use the normal audio cable?

I use on Lectrosonics DSR4 , SRB with AES plate, and install in Lectrosonics Octopack with audio cable to Sound Devices Scorpio.

It can if you use a wideband antenna like Betso Bow Ties / RF Venue Diversity Fin / the new Sound Devices "Monarch" etc.  Just make sure the filters in the settings of the SL2 / 8 series don't filter out the frequencies you're using if you're using that wide of a spread though.

    Thank you @codyman

Well as @mlohninger pointed out, the total load is well under 10A. But 6A is greater than 3A.

Why not just go from the V Lock straight from the D-Tap into the PSC Power Distro?

Is good idea, From v-mount battery's D-tap go strange to PSC power distribution, because I always want to play safe (extra fuse protection).

D-tap will power too strong (power safety ) for PSC power distribution or Remote audio power distribution ?

    That's a damn heavy bag! 😮

Personally I'd put the Scorpio on its own eSmart battery (which the Scorpio can natively read the info of from the eSmart battery), and put everything else on Deity Distro (which I'm pretty sure it could handle fine, once the Scorpio is removed. Which PSC product are you using? Not sure 100% which one it is,  but it looks like the PSC PowerStar Mini Triple Play which can handle 10A, same as Deity).

It is PSC PowerStar Mini Triple Play which can handle 10A, but I connect with my Japan band (forget the name) V-mount plate (3A fuse), the fuse blowed.

And how much current does that use?

    Octopack 1.5A w/ 4 SR (That's max, probably quite a bit less)
Scorpio 1.67A w/ Dante & all preamps, no charging
    2 x Lectrosonics SRB 240ma (12v)
    1 x Lectrosonics T4 200ma
    Zaxcom QRX200 390 mA (12v)
    Tablet charging 2A (max)

    6A Total

Maybe your antenna distro takes a few more milliamp of power... You're not even close to hitting 10A, though.

I see, let me check the product menu. Thanks 😊

I saw that too, but is that bad, 10A total? That seems pretty sufficient for a bag or small medium cart.

The Remote Audio BDSV4 is specced up to 5V globally. And I couldn't find anything about the Audioroot BG-DU besides a 2.5A per output limit.

You are right, 10A is not enough, that's mean you need to buy two from Deity, and put two in your sound bag.

  6. thanks

    a) you'd need to have a receiver that outputs AES over Superslot (none of the SR receivers do that. You can get a baseplate for them which will do AES, but that's from a TA3. So not compatible with the Octopak)

    b) alternatively, you could have a line level to AES convertor. For instance I use the AJA ADA4: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/899105-REG/AJA_ada4_4_Channel_Bi_Directional_Audio_A_D.html

    c) how are you going to get 8 channels of AES into the Scorpio? I think it natively just has 2x pairs of AES. So I presume you'll be using the XL-AES as well? (that's what I use with my 833)

thanks for suggestions 😊,  AJA's ADA4 is good product, I think I will buy sound devices SL-2 and Lectrosonics DSR4(superslot:B1C1) x2 and add my other two SRB (block 29) with AES plate(AES mini xlr) connect with SL-2. at least i can have 10 wireless onset.

what if using Octopak with wisycom , putting aes from wisycom end… could ocotpak go through the signal?

the signal still AES or analog?

Just put a pre-order in for a DSR4.  I was told the guesstimate at the moment is September pending FCC stuff and also hopefully no other issues.  Very excited that Lectro is releasing this with backwards compatibility for the 400 series etc as it will be nice to be able to continue to use my trusty existing transmitters while also being able to upgrade them to the digital series down the road.  If all goes well, I'll probably order another so that I can use an 833 + SL2 + 2xDSR4 which would be good enough fro 99% of my work.

can we use on 833 / scropio + SL2 + 2xDSR4?  I hear only can use one DSR4, the other is 2 channels only, total is 6 channels on SL2, am I wrong?

My guess: antennas into SL-2, out to DSQD, then DSQD out to 822 or some variation. Both the SL-2 and DSQD have

     hope that is work.

For example, i try Antenna to DSQD to Octopack,  Gordon Moore said they are not commend bands and have internal filtering  , he suggested use passive splitter from antenna to Octopack  and DSQD.

    Hello,

for a feature I am currently working on in Lithuania, we have been shooting several days (nights actually) an interior party scene, where every actors for the scene, and, well, almost everyone on set was smoking cigarettes  (except myself pretty much, as I am the only non smoker in the team!).

As you can imagine everything including every piece of gear now stinks cigarette smoke.

I am posting here today because I am concerned about my Schoeps mikes (mostly CMC6+MK41 and MK4. we had up to 3 booms  as there was 3 often cameras, plus planted CCM41).

They strongly stink cigarettes now and I do not know how to get rid of the smell. Furthermore I fear that it would affect them in the long term.

    Any suggestion?

Am I being paranoid about it (again as I  don’t smoke it tends to disturb me being immersed in cigarette smoke for hours)?

    Thanks

    🚬 (Gone coughing...)

    Can hear your coughing  😷

The location of the two BNC antenna inputs, XLR /Dante outputs, and power is less ideal for a bag workflow and will be cumbersome, A slot mount SRB,SRC,A10, etc solves all that.  And my guess is that with the digital winds of change the tumbleweeds will be bringing more to the slot mount design in the digital world such as the speculated SRD.

I hoping the new machine to do that,  Lectrosonics Octopack has AES output, Sound device SL2 has 4 SRC slot,… etc.

Which line? Recently I had an exceptional experience with Venue2 Receiver (and VR Field - the old one) - SMQV Transmitter - ALP650LE Antenna. I have not experience with Digital, yet. Range was impressive with Digital Hydrid.

I don’t know any change of the distance of range, but I can tell the digital (aes and Dante) will has better sound than analog (wireless)

    It depends in

It depends on which receiver you‘ll want to buy, of course. If you have lots of AES devices, you may want to add a Dante device before you run out of inputs. AES may be simpler, because you don’t need a computer to set it up initially. In terms of sound quality I don’t think there will be any difference. Dante has the advantage of needing only one cable, so there’s that…

Great explanation, then I will go aes, I don’t want to bring the computer onset, try to limit the equipment, you know. Only two person in sound department onset in Hong Kong, sound recordist and boom operator. Producer won’t pay extra.🥲🥲

Yes, you select AES just lime you would select any input. If you have the SL-2 or XL-AES add-ons you get more AES inputs if needed

I'm thinking to run digital on AES or Dante,  what do you think for Lectrosonics wireless?

I don’t have an SRC to compare it with, but the 822 is a great piece if gear and very solid and very reliable. Range is on par or better than 411a, Venue in ratio mode, and certainly better than my SRBs.
Backwards capability is great, as well.
two disadvantages compared to the SRC: it’s not Wireless Designer compatible at the moment. I can’t understand why they can’t get it done or why they even released the 822 before it was ready for WD, but that’s how it is.
Just like the 411a and any other non-slot in receiver, this one’s much trickier to install as part of a larger system.

how you connect with 822 and other receiver onto one pair antenna ?   any performance drop for mix with digital and analog receiver in one pair antenna ?

I was pulling out some older cos 11 lavs that I haven't used for a while, and one of the mics' cable sheath has started to degrade. It looks normal, but the entire length of it has gone sticky.  I'm going to try a few terrifying solvents I have lying around (start with citrus, then alcohol, then naphtha, then xylene, then acetone, then Methyl Ethyl Ketone)   but wondering if anyone has come up against this and can recommend a fix?    The mic works fine apart from the fact that I can throw it at the ceiling like a piece of spaghetti and it will stick...  The one interesting thing about this mic is that it was bought second hand with a transmitter, and it's sheath always seemed a bit different than all my other Cos 11's, I not sure whether Sanken changed how they manufacture the cable at some point, or whether it got contaminated with something at some point in its lifespan.

    Any thoughts?

    Cheers,

    Brent Calkin

different dealer sell the cos11d has different audio level and different cable skin. ....don't know why
