  1. This a happened to me. I put some glue on a pencil. Make contact and let set. Withdraw
  2. A friend of mine is shooting a doc in Montgomery, AL this Thursday and Friday (10/13-14). Must have multi-track recorder and wireless + boom. That's all I know. Contact Beth Hubbard bghduke@mac.com
  3. Except that he sniffed all during the second debate too.
  4. Hi Phillip. I'm here! My real name is Mark Barroso and I live 3 miles from chapel hill. 23 years experience. Please write me at mbarroso@mindspring.com and I'll send you a gear list. Oh: 919219-3329
  5. And they have a great jukebox! Don't see that in many places.
  6. Ummm. Call Sound Device? Are you making another point about the folly of DIY battery removal? I believe I said in the original post that I wouldn't recommend this except that it was an emergency.
  7. I tried that with liquid nails but it didn't work. I almost tried with JB Weld but I was worried about getting some on the tube. If that were to happen I'd really be up shit's creek.
  8. Thanks for replying. I will try the refriderater trick next time, although it was in my car overnight and temps dropped below freezing. I'm guessing that the battery was swollen, but maybe something sticky got on the surface of the battery. When I did get it out, the skin of the PowerEx peeled off and was left inside (that's the debris in the photo). Yes, only Lithium Energizers from now on!
  9. I dodged a bullet when a Powerex AA battery became lodged in my SD 302 and I was able to extract it. For a reason unknown to me, it had become swollen and wasn't coming out. I tried using a pencil-size magnet but no luck. Wig tape on a pen, no luck. Liquid nails on a dowel, no luck. In a desperation move I drilled into the battery and screwed in a 4 inch deck screw. I got it out, but it left a lot of residue in the tube. Using another tool for grabbing dropped nuts and bolts (did I say I have fat fingers?), I grabbed a cotton ball soaked in alcohol, and rammed it in and out until it was clean. All's good. I wouldn't reccomend this repair, unless you're a desperate as I was.
  10. Looking for someone for eng work during football game. Must have wireless hop. Great rate but no travel. Starts 9 am.
  11. It's still happening when a google a topic, click on it, and end up here: http://url4short.info/ad539e15 Do these people think I'm going to use their services after being re-directed? How could this possibly be profitable?
  12. I'm available! I have 4 wireless, plus SRb for camera hop and Zaxcom Maxx mixer. I live about 1.5 hrs away so working as local is not a problem. The IRS knows me as Mark Barroso, 919-219-3329. Thanks for writing.
  13. I'm finally buying a quick release system for my boom pole and see there are two kinds: the K-Tek QC ($60) and one made by Ambient ($141). There must be a huge difference but I can't tell by the photos. Can someone explain why one is better than the other?
  14. That's because the model is skinny. They should have a fat soundguy for a more realistic comparison. I ended up buying the PS602
  15. I have yet to fing a sutiable way to store headphones in my bag. I use one of those chaulk bags for my Sony 7506, clipped with a carabiner to my Petrol bag, but it dangles below it and flops around when I walk. I thought about using two carabiners to reduce flop, but I figure that surely someone has thought of a better idea. Attach photos if you have them! Much appreciated.
  16. Big fingers, big nose, big feet.... Seriously though, I see that I will need a TA5 Y cable to 2 XLR's for a second pair of outputs, but anything else, accessory wise?
  17. I presently use a sd442, and will buy a Maxx soon. I'd be interested in what cables people have found usefull and/or necessary. I bought 4 XLRs with right angles on both ends so the mixer could rest in a bag, but now I see I will have to turn them so they point towards the top of the mixer. This will cause them to cover the release tabs on the Maxx. Does anyone have a better solution?
  18. Well... DIsh! What did they say? Jokes about cameramen, mainly, and what they pay sound guys.
  19. To the mixer who rented a 744t last week from Trew Audio and recorded political ads in Kansas: you really should erase the internal hard drive before you return the gear. In some else's hands your client could have been really screwed.
  20. I recently worked (for the first time) with an Alexa as well and solved the time code issue I was having by renting a Denecke SB-T box and cables from Trew. I was using the 744t as the Master and the camera was slave. However, now I think I didn't need the box since I only had one camera and my bag was portable. Could I not have simply walked over to the camera with the proper lemo to lemo cable and jammed synced the time code without the Denecke? If so, would a two-way cable work or would I have to use a one-way?
  21. Thanks to everyone who responded. It's a bit of a weird situation and I appreciate you guys who are willing to help out. Hopefully, I will not need anyone but it's nice to know I have back up if I need it.
  22. I belong to NABET and IBEW so I can work network news. The networks (or cameramen, in the case of sound guys) pick whoever they want to work and then the union collects their dues. It's not a supply and demand thing as you suggest.
  23. Hello. I might have to bail on a documentary job in Dallas next week. My sister-in-law has cancer and she may die soon. I'm trying to make contingency plans. It's not a great rate (flat, but easy work), and it's for a German production company that I can vouch for. Must be able to double record to camera and a 744t, which I can provide if necessary. Send me a PM if you can help out for all or part of those ten days. Thanks.
  24. Before I start buying used gear, I like to find out if there's something better coming up on the horizon, so I thought I'd ask here. I wish I had inquired before I bought my 442 because I probably would have known about the 664 (however, it's more than I need for ENG and doc work). So, any ears to the ground, particularly about Lectro and a 4-channel mixer/recorder?
