  1. Hi all, I have this director who dislikes to wear headphones. He also dislikes the sound of the small1 watt speakers found on most video monitors. Trying to find a solution for him... There are lots of portable speakers out there... anyway to put the speaker firmly on the video monitor? Any suggestions would me most welcomed! Thanks in advance, Franky
  2. Trew Audio is selling them from Vancouver and Toronto... Franky
  3. Thanks for the input guys. To my ear the lag was barely noticeable on the Nomad compared to my Maxx. Not a huge deal... except when you're working post fader and you miss the start of the sentence because of the lag :-/ Franky
  4. Hey all, Recently I was on a shoot with another soundie who had a Nomad and I realised that my Maxx had a fader lag (maybe 0,3s) that wasnt there on the Nomad. Just wondering if its just mine or are all the Maxx like this? Thanks, ps: senator; yes I will contact the manufacturer about this but would still like the group the weigh in. Franky
  5. Hi Chris, The mke-2 is used in a live broadcast context (on the news anchors in studio). It isnt hidden. I work in post @ ctv montreal, not in live and I was just trying to help the broadcast guys with a very "esssssssy" talent. Sorry I cant help more, Im not familiar with this mic... Franky
  6. I know, I know... found the answer in the manual... thx anyway! http://en-us.sennheiser.com/downloads/download/file/3726/MKE2-4-C-GOLD_ProductSheet.pdf MZW 2 has the most high frequency response... Franky
  7. Asking for a friend as I dont have that mic... Can someone tell me what is the difference between the short and long caps for the Mke 2-4? Which one has less hf? Thanks, Franky
  8. Maxx has only 1 bnc for tc... You did check it was set to output? Franky
  9. +1 to what Dave said... The dynamic range seems more like 16bit, even if you put it @ 24. I was surprised by the mic pres... Very decent for the price! The direct out (1/8" on left side of the unit) does not work on mine... Could of been useful for a comtek feed. All in all, good for starters and small 5d gigs. Very simple unit to operate. Franky
  10. @ Guils: Take numbers do increase automatically on Zaxcom too, I'll check the naming option asap, but from memory i have to dig in the menus a bit too much to my taste... @ Max: I dont really understand your suggestion. The script on set establishes which numbers we put on slate (ex: scene 7, shot 3, take 1), I dont get to choose! Please elaborate... Franky
  11. Hello All! Is it only us who use the "Scene + Shot + Take" sequence on our slates for scripted material (in french: scene + plan + prise) ? Just wondering how other Quebec soundies keep up with the "shot" (plan) info on their recorders. I have the Maxx and usually put the shot in the "notes" field... but i find its not ideal because I have to write all of it each time... any suggestions? Thanks in advance... Franky
  12. Hi Jim, Looks nice! Ilok is ok, it is a necessity when you use Protools. Im guessing its a way for them to keep track of potential users/clients. Good luck, Franky
  13. Thanks for your responses... Franky
  14. Hello wise colleagues of jwsoudgroup! First of all, I know shit happens (all the time actually and that's fine) but I would still like to know exactly what's wrong. Long story short: I was on this shoot and suddenly my good ol Lectro 195 (used as extras) stopped working :-/ The set lights up but i lost the pilot tone on the rx. I tried bypassing the pilot tone but only got white noise. The tx is receiving the signal from the mic. So Im guessing its the rx thats dead? Crystal broken? I know they are old and all but any way to find out for sure? Any way to resurrect it? Thanks in advance... Franky
  15. Imho, get the 802, its the one that fits your needs... Franky
  16. +1 for the 416 or any of the Sennheisers rf designed mics (or their rode counterpart). They are very tough! Then again, I do own the Neumann because I love the sound and I never had an issue. I bought it from a retiring soundguy who did documentaries and I did ask about humidity problems. He said the only time it failed was deep down in a cave... So no slouch either!
  17. Congrats Graham on your purchase! Was looking into getting an lm1 too... Out of curiousity, there is no power supply so will you be running it off batts only? Are there any alternatives to the original acdc power supply? Thanks, Franky
  18. Just fyi, you need to register on the zax forum to be able to download firmware updates... Personaly, i was made aware of the issue on this forum. I tried contacting my dealer with no success about this and it seemed like it was not a pressing matter. Anyhow, my Maxx is now @ Zaxcom for a couple things including the one we are discussing here. My 0.02$ on the matter: keep yourself informed about your stuff. As far as if the manufacturer could of of done a bit more? I would say indeed... Franky
  19. Hi all, I have to ship my Maxx to Zaxcom from Montreal. Just wondering what you guys do when you have to ship your gear for repairs/maintenance. Of course careful packaging is a given. Doing a search here validated that i should use canada post/usps but thats it. Do you insure it for the full value? Canada post insurance is 1000$ max :-/ Thanks for any tips... Franky
  20. +1 Maybe you could tell us a bit more about yourself and why you are taking up this business? Franky
