  1. That is the Roosevelt Room @ the WH I believe, I have had the good fortune to record President Obama in this room. The HVAC in this room is pretty loud, this is the room that he records his weekly address in as well. They did offer to turn the unit off during our work there but it is not just a switch on the wall to get it done, so often what happens is that the president will roll in and there is not time to get it shut down quickly going through the proper channels and it is something that they like to not do beforehand, so I have had to live with it as part of the BG.
  2. Wait, the person who is afraid to use his own name in this public forum is posting a video making fun of "safe spaces"? That is rich, so rich. Carry on, please.
  3. My only tiny issue with the unit is that it takes a series of four different button pushes to turn the unit off. I get that it is a menu item function but does it need to be so many steps to turn off? After a few weeks I have just started to crack the door on the battery compartment open just a hair and it takes a little pressure off the batteries and turns the unit off. The side benefit is that if I leave the door in this mode it can't power the unit back up in its case during travel which is very easy to do otherwise. It is just a fantastic unit, I just love them, it fits perfectly between the back of the top handle and the antennas on the Arima.

    wingman?

Just wondering, when using this in the CL-12 mode, would you use the Wingman BT adaptor on the keyboard USB port?
  5. Well, much like the gear we use, I am of the school that I there is no perfect car/van for what we do 100% of the time. I have a Mini Cooper S Clubman JWC ( average MPG city/highway 30.9) for small one man jobs and travel/airport for away work, which happens to be 70% of my work these days. Great car, lots of flat space with rear seats down and barn doors in the back. I moved down to this after a few years in a large German SUV that had wayyyyyyy too much " presence " pulling up to unload gear on set. We have a family Mid sized Nissan SUV that I use for my commercial package days of 2 carts ( follow and upright sound cart ) and then if things get too large for that I move over to our catch all Ford Excursion. That thing will move a small army of gear without missing a beat although I do avoid using it on 2nd unit days in NYC, it is just a bear to drive/park in the city and @ 12mpg it ain't cheap to drive long distances. I am a car person so our "fleet" is always changing our here. I will add that I am not a fan of leaving a gear in a vehicle for lots of reasons, I load/unload for just about every job. Sure, some days I wish I had something that is sitting back in my storage space but the idea of leaving all my gear unattended in a vehicle is not a path to a pleasant day for me. I am also past the point of feeling the need to have the largest/heaviest cart possible, as seems to be the trend here on the east coast for some reason. My goals have always been small/light, it just seems to have the added bonus of being easy to move and load.
  6. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm5866314/ Anyone here have an email address that they could share with me?
  7. Looks nice and a reasonable price. I hope you sell a ton of them.
  8. Paul is a good guy, tell him hello for me. This is the issue that he was speaking of, we have run into it a ton.
  9. This is a fairly common issue with the Amira, I work with a client that has a good number of these cameras and they have been having this issue from almost the start. Although I have not seen the issue with +24 on both channels. The issue that they see often is that one channel on the camera will jump +16db , almost always during a power cycle, some units seem to do it more often than others but almost all of their 30 cameras do it at some point. Arri is fully informed of the issue and has been working on a fix for this for a while.
  10. I see the Audio Limited sample rate was 48k, what is the Zaxcom sample rate?
  11. Hi board, I am looking for some names of local mixers to possibly replace me on a documentary that I am starting next week in London. We are traveling to Seoul, Korea from London on March 2nd and the shoot will run through March 16th. I am only looking for help with the Korea Dates. Feel free to email me or PM here on the site. Thanks!
  12. I have also used headbands with good success on puppeteers, I did a season for a kids show on Sprout and it was the method that they preferred the most. Often they would be under tables or laying on the floor trying to see a monitor so a hat wouldn't work for them. I have also worked a bunch with The Muppets and they also use this style of mounting although they tend to have two people work a single puppet.
  13. Thank you to all of you for your help, both on and offline, very helpful.
  14. Thanks, a binaural head would not work for our needs as it has too much of a dead area, the back 180 degrees plus the top views would all be off axis, audio wise. I think that the mic head Chris Milk has developed is an interesting idea but it might be too hard to hide in the cameras dead zone ( basically the area below the camera that the tripod sits) which is why he now has worked it into the design of his cameras I am guessing. This project is , like a lot of VR stuff, an on going experiment so we are open to new ideas. Currently, the camera has 24 lens, and the manufacturer has developed their own slating system app to sync the external audio recorders in post. There is a 5.1 mic that hangs directly below the camera on the tripod that feeds an external recorder also mounted in the tripod center area. We are now doing a second recorder that is recording wires of various people in the field of view in a sort of forced perspective , audio wise.
  15. Any tired this with any success? I spoke to SD today and they do not have any experience with it, my CL WiFi range is very poor ( even with the iPad sitting directly on top of the CL WiFi antenna) in environments with a crowded WiFi band. I have tried new antenna, CL link cable and a different CL WiFi unit with no real change.
  16. I am looking to talk with any of you with some experience with this type of workflow. I have been working on a VR project and I am looking to pick some other mixers brains about some aspects of recording in this format. Please feel free to contact me offline, via email or PM. Thanks!
  17. Looks like a great idea Abe, I will try a few. The color white comes to mind when looking at other options in the future, that way we can color them as need be on set.
  18. 3.0 volts is twice the signal strength of a normal +4 line level peak to peak ( 1.7 volts ) , I would try dialing that back a bunch as that signal is very high.
  19. Just curious about this, what is the thought process behind this? Beyond the 2nd boom, could/would you really use more to cover a scene if there were 3 cameras or 4 ?
