  1. I have had many different issues with "customs" all over the world that are not worth repeating mostly but I will tell you a trick that has worked for us a few times now. Check you personal bag in first before going to customs with your carnet, have your fixer ( if you have one ) make sure they know this and have them get an airline rep to go to the customs office if you start to have issues or time is ticking away. What this does is it allows them to load this onto the plane first. Why is this important? Because international flights will not fly with bags on board if the passenger is not on board but has already checked in ( Positive Passenger Bag Match System ). And airlines are generally too busy to reverse the loading process to pull bags if they can help it. This is a trick I learned in the airport in Rome and it has paid off a few times since. The first time in Rome they held the flight for an extra 45 minutes until we cleared customs. YMMV.
  2. Thanks for posting this Crew, they are valuable lessons. Philip, great points and hopefully they are heard by some before it is too late for them.
  3. Does anyone know about the slate mic/com inputs, would you still lose a channel to them like the 788 when using an external headset mic?
  4. An interesting reminder on of the informality of racing in the 50's. Thanks Al.
  5. Beautiful words Alex, Steve told me some of the stories from his early days when I got to know him after he moved out east here. Sound Speed Steve.
  6. Nice work, I will certainly be getting this mod done.
  7. Sweet Job Dave, very well done.
  8. But it dose not change the monitor option for the touch screen, right?
  9. I have to say that I am not thrilled by the idea of making the main controller of the mixer/recorder ( Computer/ touchscreen ) an AC powered item on my cart personally, but that might just be me. I have tried to avoid running larger batteries and inverters out of speed and ease of operation. I guess you could always use a laptop as the controller to avoid downtime.
  10. I know it is not a movie but I do a series that shoots @ Silverstone in the UK every year and for the past 5 seasons we shoot 23.98 for everything when we are there. The project posts in the US and after doing a series of tests during the first year it was decided that this was the way they wanted to go. It is a multi camera, multi format type of production and it all works fine. Flat screens and LED lights have made a lot of the old issue mute for most part, at least for us. Robert, Tell Chris I send hello from Philadelphia, I did a bunch of 2nd unit stuff with him on The Last Airbender, I learned a ton from him.
  11. Mr. Mirror, The fact that you can not use your real name to stand behind your online attacks tells me that you are a coward in life. There is your first fact, no emotion.
  12. Sure, I would be happy to. Who exactly should I address these facts to again? Is there a phone number or email address you would like me to use? How about a first name? No? I didn't think so.
  13. Poor Mirror, you are simply just a poor, poor innocent bystander in this thread and have done nothing what so ever to bring this on yourself. After all, YOU are the real victim here and simply just misunderstood. If only you had the freedom to express who you really are in public, instead of being forced to hide behind a secret closeted online identity. Wow, you are so very brave.
  14. http://www.wardrobesupplies.com Manhattan Wardrobe Supplies, call them, if it is for sale to the open market they will know how to get it.
  15. Here is one of the cooler where they do all of the car rigs, the monitors are on light grids that adjust in height in order to get the lights and shadows in the correct place on different cars.
  16. Lorenzo has had me down to mix some days on Season 3 and as my kind friend Jim already pointed out, the painting out of poles, microphones and even the Boom ops is common place on this show and everyone is on board when you need to do this, a mere mention to the AD & DP that you are going to crash the frame for a set up and all is good. The process takes no time at all on set with the established habit of grabbing a few seconds of a frame during the take. One thing that they are also doing that I like is that there are no TC slates on the show, the scene starts when the AD asks all to roll and the director says action, it happens very quick at times so it takes a bit of time to get use to the rhythm of the set at first. They almost always roll 2 cameras on their sets and TC is linked via sync boxes. The Red's Clip numbers on the cameras are the scene and take numbers so it is very important that the mixer always double check that their files numbers and names match the cameras. The AC's are very good at this practice and a quick look at your monitors tells you what is up next as the information is displayed at the bottom of the frame. It is also the first network show that have worked on that did not also require paper copies of the sound reports at the end of each day, I just put a CVS copy in the the folder at each data break and all is good.
  17. Likewise, maybe for a take or two but never, ever more than that for me as well, guess I am as unlucky.
  18. Interesting Jeff, thanks for that information. You wouldn't by any chance have that reference would you? I guess that I was always lead to believe the opposite was true in this case.
  19. Wow, that is crazy. Is this a "right to work" state thing? I can't quite figure out how that would work after you became IA after the first project that you then work on a non union movie that a second time that "turns union"and then again a third time? What would the IA say each time? What is the point of having an IA contract at that point when the crew members are already IA? Do you just end up working under fake names
  20. Noah, Keep up the good fight, we other mixers appreciate it when we roll onto a set as well.
  21. House of Cards mixer Lorenzo Millan was Bruce's boom operator during those years, he took over for me on the last year of Homicide, Life on the streets and stayed with him for a while. I am sure that if you reached out to either of them they would get back to you with the specifics on the gear. They did a lot of great work on that show, that is for sure.
  22. Sorry Adam, When I mentioned this thread to you on Friday I didn't figure that it would break down into this type of silliness, at least not so fast, although I did pick the people who would do it correctly. See you soon.
