  2. Simply measure the 48 volt current on the mic inputs with a volt meter and know for sure, it is very simple. Measure pin 1 and pin 2 and then measure pin 1 and pin 3, they should be the same. You will have your answer in no time and then you can move on to step # 2, send the mixer back for service or move on to an other piece in this chain, there are only 3 possible failure points, the mic, the cable and the mixer.
  3. Any yet, it is the first thing that you do in this thread.
  4. I agree, I just don't think you can continue to say as a blanket statement that you can alway find usable channels, it is not true.
  5. No disrespect meant Jack ( and Senny ) but I have had times, in cities in many parts of the world ,when finding even one working channel ( meaning at a range more than 10 feet ) has not been possible in a particular block. Yes, it is the rare day but it is not unheard of for many of us and I have grown tired of the myth that this is simply untrue. This is why I travel with 4 different blocks of stuff. It has gotten tricky out there for those of us who spend a great deal of time on the road and I wish everyone the best. Talk to some of the UK mixers that I work with over there and they too will tell you that stuff can sometimes be really blocked on the rare day, when you are dealing with only 2 legal block options, 26 and 606 after ch69 went away. I think it is fine to ask here what works and what does not in certain areas without simply dismissing the question at hand with a blanket statement.

  7. "IDX had a good run. I never liked their charger. Their batteries are very old technology and since IDX holds a huge chunk of the market they did not need to innovate and upgrade their product." Rado, this is what I was referring to when I said that I felt the IDX comments were uncalled for, they are a company that drives a lot of innovation with their battery and wireless units and I think it is unlikely they didn't "innovate and upgrade their product" as you say. The NP1 battery was never designed to work in our bags, we - the sound community, adapted it for this usage. The NP1 battery was originally used as a replaceable internal battery for items such as cameras ,monitors and even the first generation of our portable digital recorders, heck , I remember having to put a tape tab on them to get them out of my Deva II years ago. My guess is that the batteries that you are buying for this new system are "private label" units, meaning that Audioroot did not make or design them for our usage in the field and just had their name added to the label by the manufacture. This is not a knock on them at all, lots of companies do this with lots of items. Their chargers and power distribution look very nice and smart, I look forward to learning more about them.
  8. Batteries look a lot like these units. http://inspiredenergy.com/standard_products/NH2054/NH2054.htm Thanks for the review Rado, but I find your IDX bashing a bit uncalled for and perhaps a bit premature based on your single day of experience with this new system.
  9. I used three of my standard Denecke SB-2b's last week with some Amira's with no issues at all.
  10. I was able to use Lectrosonics block 21, 22, 26 without much problem, the city is so spread out ( think pods of small towns connected by highways) that there never seems to be a big build up of RF. Driving there is an adventure, street signs and off ramp signs are often not to be trusted or in the wrong locations and GPS units often are wrong due to the pace that the roads were built at a few years ago. Leave yourself a lot of time to get from one place to an other. Gear will get very dusty if you are outside for any period.
  11. Hardly, he is getting exactly what he asked for in his post, valuable user based feedback on a prototype design. "We are also looking for feed back on the design of the case since we are still making minor changes to it. Here are photos of the prototype."
  12. http://realitysoundschool.com/big-picture-1/?awt_l=Ad9MY&awt_m=44UVVytZNkcg28D here is a link to part one of the video "series" . I could only listen to about 3 minutes of his ramblings before I had to close the page.
  13. http://realitysoundschool.com/how-to-make-6-figures-in-tv-this-year/ My favorite quote- "Just think about it – you’ve probably been on location, working on set – who’s the guy that’s usually working the LEAST out of everybody? The audio guy. And who’s the person that’s usually making more than most of the producers and production personnel? The audio guy. You see, this is the secret most audio guys don’t really want you to know – that what we do as tv sound mixers might seem very technical, and in some aspects it is, but by and large it is very routine and easy work. Yet we command day rates in excess of $500/day just for showing up, putting mics on a few people, turning some knobs, pushing some buttons, and then we go home. Obviously some shows are easier than others, but the majority of gigs are similar to what I just described." He is looking for comments at the bottom of the page, feel free.
  14. As he already posted an answer to your question, it was a wide master.
  15. Mirror, All I was saying was that I found it a bit ironic that you wanted to define this forum as for professionals , by professionals in post #50, when you choice to operate here anonymously, which I find unprofessional if you want to dole out advice. It is just my opinion, not meant as an attack of any sort on you personally. I know only what you claim here on the forum as your reasons for this status, in fact if you read back through them you will see that I defended your right to it I believe. But that aside, you must surely understand that you can't only have the benefits of being anonymous without the negative aspects as well. IMHO, advice given from an anonymous source is less believable ( regardless if it is right or wrong ) as we really have no idea if you have ever even pushed record on a set before, or maybe your a well thought of, highly ranked, seasoned veteran sound mixer. Well, will never know and I guess it is our loss. I am sorry to all that are reading this if I moved the topic away from the OP post.
  16. What part of being a professional is being afraid to use your real name in an online forum, just wondering?
  17. This cable is great on the cart and fits all of my possible TC needs during the day. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ENG-TIME-CODE-JAM-CABLE-SOUND-DEVICES-ZAXCOM-LEMO-5-PIN-TO-LEMO-5-BNC-3-5mm-/321294871549?pt=US_Cables_Snakes_Interconnects&hash=item4aceaaabfd or this one if you really need 1/4 inch out http://www.ebay.com/itm/ENG-TIME-CODE-JAM-CABLE-SOUND-DEVICES-ZAXCOM-LEMO-5-PIN-TO-LEMO-5-BNC-1-4-/291134110094?pt=US_Cables_Snakes_Interconnects&hash=item43c8f1f98e
  18. Thanks for posting Al, the Mercedes 300SL transporter is so interesting. I love the idea of the car transporter and the vehicle being transported having engines made by the same company.
  19. That's great news Jim, I hope to get down there and see you and Lorenzo this year.
