Thanks for reply... I didn't realize I already had a solution for jamming GoPros. Is the USB cable necessary or can you just run mic level into the gopro from the Tentacle? I just realized that the gopro might only have single channel audio... so the Tentacle's mic may not work.

Curious, would the tentacle then be a good fit with a GoPro to provide timecode and also a reference audio track? Hell, it can't be much worse than a gopro's built-in mic!

Figured out the issue... the recorder was in WAV file format. Switched to BWF file format and all the data shows up.

Has anyone figured out how to read the timecode off of the DR-701D Tascam? I am using it in the field and the AE is not having success finding timecode in the AVID timeline. Is there a trick to find the timecode? Upon import, AVID is reading just a file starting at hour 1. The Tascam is reading TC off of a Tentacle Sync, the "TC" display is on and it is displaying running TC on the TC menu page. What menu setting am I, or the AE, not getting right?

I've used the C300 for 100's of hours, and the fan is never loud enough to cause concern. There is a small fan on the camera, and like JM notes, if there is a blocked vent it could possibly be the root of any fan noise. But, a normal operating C300 is very very quiet.

Probably preaching to the choir, but this site is very useful and well organized. I originally looked to it for help finding some gear in a pinch in 2012. Just yesterday, I used the classifieds section and had my item sold in under an hour! How about that!? When I went to write this post, I saw that there was a request for donations. Done. Agreed, different boxes do different things. Zaxcom especially seems to be very proprietary with format. Also, may see a format issue due to FAT32 formatting or MAC OS formatting.

Local news is what it is. Not much gets better over time, just seems to keep sliding downhill. Sound is the least of their problems...

This was a nice surprise, realizing the guts of my new SRa are almost as good as the forthcoming SRb.

There is no way to work with the C300 for more than a half-day handheld... without rails. The best systems, in my opinion, are the smallest rails. Some are too bulky and you end up with cameras ill-suited to move quickly.

Lots of companies are price dropping but Lectro seems to have at least thrown a bone to SRa owners with the $250 upgrade. Nice that they didn't completely redo the form factor on the SRb, so as to allow an upgrade.
