  1. Mine are that way, I like it though!
  2. Most of the time I only have 1 boom and 2 wireless in play (the main reason the 633 makes the most sense for me) so I would prefer to have the wireless on the big faders. On inputs 5 and 6 I would have wireless 3 and 4 (TA3 to TA3 from the Lectro SR). On input 4 I have a TA3 to XLRF plugged in at all times, so that if I suddenly need to add a boom, stash mic, wired handheld, etc. it will be easy to switch one of the wireless from inputs 2 or 3 over to 4 without having to go get a different cable.
  3. Does the watch's timer add 10 minutes to the estimated 5 minutes for "tweaks?"
  4. I stole this idea from a Steadicam operator I know. I got a bunch of zippered pouches designed for storing pencils in a binder and grouped cables within them. I then got some binder rings to group all the pouches together. I can see what's in each pouch, flip through them like a book, and easily break the pouches apart if I want to slim it down or just carry one directly in the sound bag while the rest live in the Pelican.
  5. This was also my thought! "Wow!" I exclaimed.
  6. They mention various capacities for other cards but not the one you specifically mentioned, meaning that it is not approved but not necessarily incompatible, just untested. But, of course, I'm not Sound Devices.
  7. He means the PowerSafe circuitry and the internal timecode battery, not the internal AAs. See below:
  8. I can't speak for Alex of course but something was mentioned here by another user:
  9. Yeah, it's the screen protector that was provided with the 633 and I like its thickness but the clarity leaves something to be desired. Others have suggested phone screen protectors but most of them seem to be thin and flexible. The one thing I like about the provided protector is that I feel it would protect the screen from more than just scratches. Also, in the picture the situation is being exaggerated because the screen is over exposed (I was exposing for the keyboard primarily, which is the darkest area. Suggestions welcome! Yes, it's the Rii Mini Wireless Keyboard and it's been working just fine. When I first connected it I lost the connection and couldn't get it back without a reset of the 633 but I haven't been able to replicate this since. I went through and tried using all the special functions and keys on the keyboard and couldn't sever the connection so it seems to be stable. Also, it has a backlight, which is nice! Drawback for me is that it charges via USB and an internal battery; I would prefer it run of AAA or something.
  10. First time using my new 633! Loving it so far and eagerly awaiting the new K-Tek bag so I can downsize!
  11. Figured I would share my experience with the Rii mini keyboard recommended here on another thread as a nice 664 keyboard and it's been working well for me on the 633 as well! I have it velcro'd to the bag but I can remove it easily since it's wireless. I did something the other night when I was first setting it up that caused it not to work...not sure what that magic button was but I'll do a bit of testing to try and repeat it and let you all know. During all normal operations it's been fine. I managed to reconnect the keyboard by forcing the 633 to do a full power-down by pressing and holding menu for 10 seconds while the unit was off (also a tip from another thread). Loving this little machine so far! Now if only I could get a better looking screen protecter...anyone?
  12. Never be afraid to admit you don't know how to do something/what something is because time can be wasted. I'm reminded of the old "box of f-stops" test.
  13. Here's a pic of the new antenna (left) compared to the older model. I've not had any issues with talent and the antenna, in fact the ability to configure the position opens up many options. I can see how the hinged post could, in some positions, potentially cause discomfort (it hasn't happened yet) but I've always figured I would just swap it out for the standard whip.
  14. I've been using these antennae for about two weeks now and have had no issues! I most appreciate the reduced length of the hinged post, both in the bag on my SR and especially on talent on the transmitter. I can't say for sure whether I'm experiencing increased range but I can say that I'm still experiencing the same excellent range as usual! Thanks Larry!
  15. Very strange indeed! This happened to me recently but it was completely my fault. I rented 2 additional breakaways from Gotham and despite my efforts I managed to get the wrong pigtails back on my breakaway. It functioned correctly except the return was summed! Ultimately I had to take mine to Gotham to be rewired. Lesson learned!
  16. Yeah, use your own media (better yet, client's!), or back up to a personal drive and then format. EDIT: (better yet, client's!) I actually hate using client media because I'm always skeptical of its condition but it might be best practice for politicians to buy the media...
  17. Yes on a few occasions with both the MKH50 and 60 (the updated, RF proofed editions). It's not the usual RF from cell phones etc. but rather a kind of whispery sound that would be impossible to type. For me it has been very low level, only noticeable during quiet takes. Very infrequent but switching to a different mic will solve the problem and a combination of switching cables and the angle of the boom can help. For me it has happened with radio towers within line of sight and once filming 12 stories up near the Empire State Building. I'm only guessing but the problem only occurred on the side of the room closest to the Empire State Building. Happens to me maybe once a year...
  18. Recently I was on a gig in Times Square, switched on my SRa and saw I was receiving audio. I assumed it was noise but I saw it was moving like dialogue. I put on my headphones and it was someone's lav from a nearby morning talkshow backstage! Very impressive range as we weren't that close to the building. I guess that was bound to happen at some point since I was using the Lectro pre-coordinated frequencies.
  19. Strange, I recently experienced this very problem on set running version 4.45e but I attributed it to the wireless. I've only used Lectrosonics with the Nomad so far but I had to use 4 Sennheiser G3s because I had 4 wireless handheld mics. I would do a full coordination, with everything looking good, and suddenly my wireless would be barraged with RF. It looked and sounded just like this. I was using both A Group and B Group with compatible frequencies. When it came time for them to be used I was lucky and had no issues. I was thinking it was the G3 Receivers not interacting well with the Nomad. I can get spray in Block 21 and even some in Block 26 as well on Lectrosonics but it's usually not an issue the way it was with the G3s. Now I'm thinking...maybe it wasn't the wireless at all? For me, this problem only occurred on inputs where the wireless was plugged in. The boom input did not have this problem nor did the sixth, empty, input.
  20. I have had zero handeling noise issues with my mkh8050. I purchased the cut module though. I'm using a couple different Rycote Invision series mounts and really have to mishandle the pole to get any kind of noise. I did a test when I first purchased the mic with and without the filter. It seemed to me, that you could probably use the mic without the filter and not have any issues but I enjoy having the cut (I also have the 8060 so the module services two mics) and having the -10db pad at the flip of a switch is a real lifesaver when you need it!
