  1. Show me your case, does the case have to be portable?
  2. Just to let you know, I don't know who's cats they are? Just did a cat picture search on Google. The other pictures that came up I don't think Jeff would like. So back to the dress.. Like these
  3. Finally we can start posting cat pictures So we can start posting cat pictures? Can we post cat videos too? Cause I would really like to see how they got in the sink. I also would like to turn on the water, and capture the SOUND with my analog Nagra
  4. I’ll bet your Aunt Margaret has some good Nagra stories to tell. You should send her the link to JWsound and this thread, maybe she’ll sign up and tell some of her stories of her life’s work using a Nagra III. She would probably love to do it. Thank you, Christopher, for posting to my Old Nagra thread.
  5. "The machine has always been next to the speaker on display in the shop where I worked 25 yrs ago. So old friends meet again." "Capi Lux Vak, former distributor for Nagra in Amsterdam" "I have no history on the machine from 1958 to 1985" That would be a long bike ride since both units are now in the U S and that was 25 years ago. If you know, Please don’t say any names, I would like to keep his identity private. Thanks Also, The speaker was not that clean when I got it. A little polishing compound, Windex and Pledge spray wax does wonders, none is strong enough to hurt a finish.
  6. "So old friends meet again" by sheer luck, after being separated a world apart, go figure....
  7. 1958 Nagra III one of the first 58 hand made Nagra III’s . Number 58 out of 240 with a factory installed external on/ off switch. It has the same paint as a Nagra II and many differences from the Nagra III we have known. I condensed my display case over the weekend in anticipation of its arrival to make room for another shelf. No recorders were harmed or displaced in the adjustment. Now I also have room for that Harvey time code mod unit, someday. It came in Monday FedEx from the Netherlands. I cleaned it up a little which I do with all my recorders. The condition is better than I thought. Here are six pictures, tomorrow I will show you what is different on this machine and make it very clear to you Nagra was experimenting in these early units in 1958 You always see Nagra II's and some Nagra I's but you never see the first Nagra III's There is a difference. Here is a Nagra III in Nagra II's paint. Not sure when they switched to gray hammer tone paint. Could be #60 for all I know. Hopefully, someone knows and can chime in. But it was close because the heads are that color. But I know for a fact the first 58 units were Nagra II wrinkle paint.
  8. I think Nagra considers the Nagra III pilot model their prized, finished, evolved creation. Because that is when it took off in sales. I'll bet they didn't keep a 1958 that is why you never see them with one in any pictures. I also think 1958 was an on going experimental year for the Nagra III and the 240 units they made. Since in the first 58 units anyway there were a number of changes. I have no idea what happened in 1959 as I never saw a 1959 Nagra III I have pictures of the serial number for every model "year" except 1959. Not sure but there might be a 69 Nagra III also
  9. Is the picture a Nagra III with a pilot? Never in any Nagra company pictures that I have seen, is the first Nagra III. On their web sites, it always says in the caption Nagra III 1958 but shows a 1962 or later Nagra III in the picture.
  10. Nice rack, your very lucky to have the 2c. I would have thought you had a Nagra I from your picture. Nice collection, your simple, clean, neatly done and all Nagra. I like it. Is it your rec room, living room etc.
  11. I found this interesting video, but I have no idea what they are saying. Video is in the upper right corner. http://www.rts.ch/info/economie/4609246-stefan-kudelski-l-inventeur-de-l-enregistreur-nagra-est-decede.html
  12. Very very nice Mike, I missed the boat a couple of times to get one of those years ago. I'll probably never be able to get one now. Where do you keep it? How do you display it? Hidden or out for display? If you ever get sick of it. Mike, a little-known fact, the first Nagra III's used the same paint and color as your Nagra IIC
  13. It's nice to have extra screws to replace any biffed up ones, makes a used machine look good. Can’t believe no one pointed this out to me. I just found and read the complete history you did in the 695 quarterly about Stefan Kudeiski. Here I’m looking for Nagra III history copying and translating some Polish web site in broken English about the Nagra III and all the time it was right here in front of me in the 695 quarterly….and you guys let me go on and on about it. Very nice job Scott Smith and very complete. David, I copied your pictures and never looked where they came from. I guess I have to start paying attention. By the way, I did get that 1958 Nagra III #58 out of 240 made that year. Info right out of the 695 quarterly. Once I clean it up I'll post some pictures. Came Monday from the Netherlands. http://695quarterly.com/5-2/5-2-nagra-kudelski-tribute/
  14. Even the screws, http://www.ebay.com/itm/used-metric-screws-all-original-for-Nagra-IV-reel-to-reel-recorder-/171677170758?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27f8c1bc46
  15. I guess you have some nightmare DAT stories to tell. Please don't throw away a Stelladat. It's a beautiful and historic machine to a collector. A Dead Stelladat would probably bring a grand or more on eBay, who knows they never come up.I guess everyone threw them away. After the sledge hammer, slightly less.
  16. It's kind of amazing even after all these years, you will never see a Nagra like that DAT in the last post. One product hangs around forever another ends up like that. Every single part on a Nagra is worth $$$ Even the screws. It's not the DAT is just a different format, it was also how cheap can we make it. I don't think Nagra and Stellavox worried if they can make it cheaper. You won't see a StellaDat like that either.
  17. Thank you samsound I do have one model MMK 6. I had it for 11years, it always had a nice spot in my case until the Nagras kicked it out. Now it's stuffed way over in the end of this picture.
  18. Thank you for your stories Angelo Waldron, al mcquire and others, Al you lost me on a couple of those sound-man code words. Pa's AD But thanks for the story.
  19. Philip, I don’t think it was repainted, in 1958 they were different. The one I showed you in this link was serial number B5828 and it looked black because it was a poor photo. http://www.radiomuse...a_iii_b_bh.html The deck set up and heads looks more advanced looking than the Nagra III’s we know. Different as Jeff pointed out. In the first link, the machine shows some type of experimental deck cover release on the side. Looks like they wanted just a twist of two screws to open it up. It makes it stick out more and probably why it was changed later to the plate with four screws. There are three different Nagra III’s in the bottom link. I believe all 1958 at least two of them are for sure. The first Nagra III in the link below has the same serial number as the one I called the black one in the in link above. The caption is wrong, calling it 1961 it’s not it's 1958. For sure it's 1958 This serial number is the same B5828 if you zoom in (click on the picture, click twice) you can see on the corner the paint looks very factory, This is the first Nagra III paint scheme. With a clear aluminum deck lid (no paint on it) as shown in the pictures. You know how nice the reel deck lid is on a Nagra III acid etched silk screened imagine no paint around the top edge like shown in all these pictures. The Same type of wrinkle paint used as the Nagra I and Nagra II Not Nagra II c You can see they were experimenting with paint in the early years. The last two pictures in this link shows another 1958 in very good condition, looks like mint condition with the same dark gray wrinkle paint. As near as I can tell serial number B5822 It also shows the power adaptor in the same color gray. So I believe this last machine is 1958 # 22 B5822 At some point they changed the heads the paint and who know what else to become the machines we know. That is the date I'm not certain. On a Nagra III, the first set of numbers is the date. I have a 1962 and 1967 I have seen a serial number date for every Nagra III except 1959 So either 1958 59 were the same or its just 1958 that looks like these three here. A 1960 thru 1967 looks just the same as the rest with the total gray hammer paint top and bottom. https://soundlandscapes.wordpress.com/tag/nagra-iii/
  20. Jeff do you still have any of your old Nagras to play with or look at now and then.
  21. This TC meter is pure class, reminds me of the space program. https://www.youtube.com/embed/fPZ80eNVMgg
  22. 1958 Black Nagra III, the first one? Were they black? Anybody ever seen one? Makes sense since I and II were black, brown and gray. http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/kudelski_nagra_iii_b_bh.html
  23. Could it be? They must of known the 30 year run on analog recorders was coming to an end. Nagra needed to go into different directions with different products. That may be why the 4S was basically retrofitted as simple as possible rather then design a whole new machine at the time with analog tape and time code. A last ditch effort to keep the 4s in service. They took a 13 year old machine and resold it.
  24. Nagra had two versions of the IVS TC early and late. The one I have is the early Model that is shown in this Nagra brochure. Old school Crew posted a picture of his in this thread. He has the later model that has a neat little light at 4 o’clock on the side of the meter to shine onto the LCD time code meter. His also has the silk screen “TC” PILOT where mine just says PILOT over the pilot meter. Also, the time code instructions were in a different place either on the back of the slide out panel or on the bottom. I had both units side by side, I could only afford to keep one. I had a very hard time getting rid of one because I like the light on the side of the meter and the added TC over the pilot. It seems Nagra just retrofitted the early models. Then made the real IV-ST. But the earlier one had the known movie history. So I regretfully sold the later one. I wish I kept both versions. A real Nagra collector would have all versions of every machine in their collection. I just have the basic bare bones Nagra collection. The Harvey Mod was so well done it looked more factory than the Nagra add on. The red meter looks like it fit the time period of the analog recorder than the slide out panel. This brochure is dated 9-89 Remember you can click on any of my pictures for a more detailed look.
  25. I always thought that Harvey mod was well done also. Much better than the factory one I agree Jeff. They come up so few times for sale and the recorders usually are all beat up. Just did a quick search one just sold on eBay. Looks pretty clean too. So many Nagras I still don't have. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nagra-IV-S-with-Time-code-sys-Model-X4S-TC-FM-pilot-Gen-Resolver-/121554755397?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c4d3a5f45&nma=true&si=El6xfvz%2Bf1WJjwa%2BENSSgKyxvf8%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
