  1. If I'm shooting on an acoustically treated room they can perform however talent want, this is not the case on 98% of the projects I've done, so I shake my head (if I'm close to set) to make director and decision makers know that the sound is not usuable, if I'm at my cart, I'll send somebody to INFORM the director sound is unusable, from there, he has to take the decision wether to repeat it or not, but deff. I'm not making that decision for him!
  2. There's a microphone brand called Olympus, piece of crap for crappy reference track ( that's what producers want right??) they make small 1/8 inch connectors included at the end of the microphones, they are omnidirectional and also extremely sensitive to the death star's fan( in my opinion), 20 bucks You get what you pay Pablo
  3. This is a piece of art, delightful to my eyes. very clean design pascal
  4. +1 for Simon, I worked in a production some time ago where the hmi 5k was killing me, it was in the 13k-16k neighborhood so I thought that I could record that constant frequency an later on post could phase it out of the original recording. It didn't worked for me. Talk with other departments. Make sure G&E has spare cables an they don't put the ballast close to set(or as far as possible) If nothing works, write it down and talk with the AD
  5. Right about the OTafewmoreyears, that's a ++!
  6. Most of the time I show up 20-30 minutes before my call time, is good for accommodate the set and check any sounds that doesn't belong to the project (pipes, vents, fridges etc) but when I've done my pre work, I don't like to sit around and look at my cell, I think it makes you look like you just don't care about what the rest of the departments are doing e.g. while G&E is working their butts offs. I learned the hard way not to touch anything from other departments so now I only help if I'm asked to and I see more departments helping with man power.
  7. I got a call time today at 6:30am, producer says is completely important I'm on set at that time, when the G & E truck is just arriving... I say really? What is I'm needed for at that time? Answer: "to get ready" First shot : planned for 9:30am, 2 lavs 1 boom... Come on man. The only thing that really bothers me is that after I do my check (usually night before in my house) I have tons of free time I use to clean gear... Check sides again..etc, but sometimes it just looks like one is doing nothing while I have to hang out for 3 hours before the first shot (stablishing shot, MOS by the way). What do you say when your call time is really soon and you know you are going to hang out for more than 2 hours?

  9. I use sennheiser G3 for communication and a SD mixpre on my boom op belt, sometimes duplex, depends on my boom, however he feels comfortable is good for me!
  10. I don't follow a certain pattern, if camera is yelling rolling!!! I will yell Speed!! and vice-versa. I let people know that my department is ready (boom in position, no people talking in bkgnd, airplanes... etc) by yelling a different word. Some people find hard to follow the 3 word rule QUIET ON SET
  11. I carry 2 416 p48 1 Sanken cs 3e 4 Trams 1 Countryman EMW
  12. +1 Senator, dlwilliams, I just hope you don't discover once in the show that the crew is getting paid better than you, I would ask the crew and take it from there. They have to pay 100% of expendables and at least $60-$70 for per-diem, what about petty cash???
  13. afewmoreyears, Thanks for the info, really helpful. SD gave me a great customer support = deff a company I like doing business with
  14. Amazing description of your work flow! thanks for sharing, I'm deff adding 'confidence' monitoring to my HP favorites!
  15. If I would, that'll only mean I learned nothing from all this discussion. I was speaking with Jesse Parker from SD who kindly addressed some of my questions: The 744t reads the take list every time is booted on, obviously, the more information you have stored on the recorder, the more chances of a slow down in speed on the HDD can occur. Common sense. I had only 8G of free space when I was operating the issue, that means the recorder was almost 90% of its capacity.Bad move. This is another conclusion, If the recorder shows a problem in one of the storage back ups, probably and most definitely is going to be happening in all the back up connections running at the time, that answers why it couldn't write in CF when it was formatted and empty. "slow" = stop rolling. Also, SD sent me a loaner 744t while they take a look to mine to see if the HDD is in good condition, the process will take around 2 weeks. I won't be charged for nothing and Jesse gave me his number to call him anytime I have a problem in or outside set with any of my SD gear. Pretty happy about that.
