  1. Last one I did was for the Eels twenty years ago, directed by Gary Weis, one of the coolest guys on the planet.
  2. I agree with two identical recorders. Make life a whole lot easier.
  3. I was told 30 minutes. Maybe I'm older than you! Cheers and congrats on the latest addition to your family!
  4. So sorry to hear of your loss, Jeff. I had the pleasure of working with your Dad many years ago on a commercial. I arrived on set and the AD asked where my boom swinger was and I replied the producer assured me I would only be recording FX. He handed me a script with wall to wall dialogue. I phoned my boom, in the meantime, I had to deal with a long tracking shot of about 40 feet through a passageway of pipes in an abandoned power plant with two athletes jabbering away. Your Dad, seeing my plight, told me to hop on the Fisher and ride along with him. (Nagra 4.2 days) The next day at dailies, he told me my sound was good. A proud moment for me! Traut
  5. Make sure your flight is round trip.
  6. Canada is a pain in the ass. I have been to 22 countries and they are the worst.
  7. Hey Courtney. John Glascock is why I am a mixer today. There is no finer man.
  8. Andy Cooper told me the square wave 10K was for field alignment of the heads. Great stories. Cheers!
  9. Crosziel with an optical flat helps to reduce sound coming from the lens. A hard box is a megaphone.
  10. I like being close enough to have an eye line with the director and close enough for good rf reception.
  11. Years ago, I did screen test for Geisha with Spielberg. When we were rolling, NOBODY moved. It was heaven.

    First Boom?

It actually originated from longshoremen lingo in the 1800's. Back then, ships were equipped with booms to load and unload cargo. When they wanted to retrieve cargo from the hold, the gang boss would order "lower the boom".
  13. Bean counters and coneheads are assiduously trying to write us out of the equation.
  14. Just did a job w Amiras and DIT said the cameras can be wanky, so he always uses a lockit.
  15. The piece about mixing Mad Max was terrifying!
  16. Sounds like you did a bang up job. Well done.
  17. I work commercials in Los Angeles and even the worst craft services is still pretty great. All I need to keep me happy is cold bottled water, good coffee and some salty nuts. A good producer knows that good crafty goes a long way to making for a happy crew.
  18. More proof JW is such an amazing site. Who knew? I watched the whole interview, forwarded it to my wife and she loved it too. Thanks Jeff!
  19. I have worked with him. He was nice. Just be ready and don't make him wait and you will be fine. Always have a backup. Always.
