  1. In the world of entertainment, reality and documentary television (at least in the UK, but I would suspect to a large proportion elsewhere as well) recording on two camera channels has been absolutely standard for many years. How one splits that is up to the mixer themselves, but generally common practice is to keep wireless and boom apart if using both. It's kind of expected by the edit. There are almost never any conversations about workflow. Of course there are now more shows requiring multitrack which does require a closer relationship with the cutting room if possible.
  2. I have absolutely no idea how much being wideband adds to the innards in terms of size - but on a purely personal basis - IF it did make it smaller I'd rather a single block RX particularly as the CL isn't wideband either. It might be entirely moot though, so... These cameras get smaller and smaller with less places to mount stuff. Anyone that can develop a very small dual RX will make a killing. Difficult to do though.
  3. Doesn't need to be suited to Sony. Ignoring the 5P and other variants for a second, most mixers use sleds or some other mounting system for the vast array of cameras out there. The point being TWO CHANNELS. Equally, while there are some downsides to dual RX I'd argue that the benefits vastly outweigh these, which is why almost every ENG recordist has switched to them if they haven't already invested in 411 or Audio 2040. Stuff like Zaxcom and Wisy can't really be considered massively compromised by being dual channel. It's a no brainer in 2015.
  4. Always two channel. ALWAYS. My boom is kept unmixed from wireless.
  5. The built in TC is of course brilliant. A mounting solution might make it big though. And knowing the UK/US exchange rate as well as I do I suspect that along with a CL I'd probably get more for my cash buying another SRB with TX. Two channels of talent mics for starters. It's a step in the right direction though. If only they could make them smaller...
  6. I must admit I read the post about it being pretty small and imagined Zaxcom had come up with a dinky, paired down RX (perhaps single block only) with a rechargeable battery around the 'slightly-bigger-than-an-ERX' size. Expectations are dangerous things...
  7. Except if it's single channel then it's relatively useless as a hop. And a waste of space in the superslot.
  8. So, a wideband link RX but no wideband link TX? Seems odd.
  9. I dunno. Touch was demo'd in the videos as a bag rig. All this stuff still has time to develop of course, but whilst I'm happy enough with Nomad as it stands their are doubtless a few GUI tweaks that users have been requesting that I'd rather see 'on-board' and not ported to an external device that may prove difficult to manage on the go.
  10. Pure conjecture, but if that's how these requests are to be satisfied, then it isn't terribly satisfactory. Touch is cool, but it really looks much more feasible for sit-down jobs. I hope Nomad itself will continue to evolve for it's primary use as a doco/reality recorder without the need of a 'bolt-on'. Oasis on the other hand looks great for small narrative set ups.
  11. Latency is an extra irritation. If it can be reduced within the wireless systems themselves then it means less buggering about trying to delay other channels particularly when mixing different brands of wireless. And of course some recorders don't have delay - 664 for example.
  12. The latency is AMAZING. Not so much the lack of dual channel though.
  13. I hate to be a negative ninny, but I hope that Touch does not override any future Nomad software tweaks to make our bag lives easier. It may not be very practical to use Touch in the bag when running and gunning and I'd hate to see requests like scene and take display or user screen choice being thrown aside in favour of these new products. The grump in me can see that happening...
  14. I know Apple are needlessly draconian with their App approvals procedure but given that idevices are by far and away the most popular tablets and phones on the market it seems bizarre to limit Touch to Windows 8 of all things. Especially if the software for Oasis and Deva 32 is cross platform.
  15. Windows? *Vomits copiously* Oh Lord, WHY? Big shame. Obvious use for Nomad owners would be via their touchscreen phones. Nobody I know owns a Windows phone! And Windows 8 is bloody awful.
  16. I'm trying to figure out if you can run it on an iPhone. Glenn mentions that the Oasis/Deva 32 touch package works on anything but I can't tell if Touch is the same.
  17. My sockets have been fine (good luck I guess) though it really should be a locking connector. I concur on the switches. Get's knocked into the 'off' position too easily by camera ops.
  18. The ERX range outside is not good, so I can understand people using the Comtek. The case material on the ERX is surprisingly tough though - I've had producers drop them from a height onto a concrete floor with no ill effect. What isn't so durable is the screen - all of mine have failed within a year and were mostly very carefully handled. Zaxcom need to rethink their use on any future 'ERX 3'. I rather suspect that the headphone knob is also prone to damage.
  19. I'm very surprised it's that heavy. These bags need to get lighter!
  20. I use the Ambient one (they do sell them on their own). It's fine for most indoors close-quarters stuff. Not brilliant outside though. And probably unuseable on a narrative set.
  21. Can you assign all the pots (large and small) to be trim controls a la Nomad? In my experience the kind of shows that require somebody to have over 6 tracks mixed in the bag on rotary faders are almost always the kind of fuck-ups where a mix is near impossible. I end up turning my Nomad faders into trims and just handing over ISO tracks. If so, having the mini faders would be a godsend that wouldn't require a bolt-on panel which both the 664 and the Nomad do, unless you are truly nuts and think you can use the 'virtual faders'.
  22. Thanks Larry! Hopefully my UK service centre (Raycom) will be able to undertake the mod.
  23. Obviously this would need help from Lectro themselves, but any chance of a dweedle tone to change the LF cut?
