  1. Wanting to find out from all the JW folk out there what you all use as a case/pouch/ bag for wireless lab kits like moleskin, topstick, medical, tape, extra mics, scissors, foam, etc for a more portable option. I've seen many guys out there use a "briefcase" type of case to hold all of that and it's just not as convenient as I need. I've used for years a fishing tackle pouch type that opens up from a fold and it has visible see through pockets to get what you need in a hurry. Mine is starting to break and I cannot find where I bought it. They may not make it anymore. I'm looking for something that is relatively small, foldable and takes little space but can hold a lot. Yeah, I know I'm asking for basically a "D&D bag of infinite holding". Just wanted to see what all of you use as a way to keep all of you wiring needs in. Thanks for the help.

  3. I would love to get an idea how to make a foldable/collapsible shelf so it could fold with the cart.
  4. Thanks for the picture fix Jeff.
  5. I tried changing the orientation on my computer and it uploaded the same exact way. No worries. Thanks. I normally only like shooting in landscape as a widescreen picture but I wanted people to see more of the length of it that I figured a portrait view could showcase better.
  6. I know this thread hasn't been looked at since about April of last year but I thought I would add my little cart rig I made not too long ago. It's a simple Roughneck fold up hand truck I bought at Northern Tool for around $80. http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200586484_200586484 Added some hooks from Home Depot to hold cables. Attached them in a way so that when it folds, the hooks fold flat on to the hand truck. Added some PVC base and a flexible PVC coupling for the top, all to hold a boom pole. Not completely happy with this and would like something more like a Toolflex holder if I could get a good place to get it here in Florida or online. One of the things I love the most about this setup is how compact it folds in my Ford Escape. leaves me so much more room to pack my gear bag, ditty bag, c-stand for a boom holder, another egg crate for misc. stuff and other odds and ends i bring to some jobs.
  7. Here is another winner.... Production Audio (Lakeland/Plant City) We are looking for a Audio person for sound in the filming of a tv series trailer. Filming days are 9/14, 9/21, 9/26 - 9/28. Total pay is $300.00, copy, craft, credit and working on the series if we meet our goal. We are working hard to bring this to Florida.
  8. My apologies Angelo. I borrow your title. It was well crafted. Think of it as paying homage. Hope that's okay.
  9. It's getting to this level now...SMH. Wow. I love my state but please get us the tax incentives when the opportunity rolls around again. I can't take these idiots anymore. http://orlando.craigslist.org/cwg/4574786263.html Mini-Crew needed 4 reality show, 2 audio tech + 2 Camera Operators (Orlando) compensation: 200 We plan to shoot for one week towards the end of the year and need one audio tech and two camera operators. I don't want to put too much info about the project here but once you reply and I read your info, if you match what we need I'll tell you all about it. We're going to pay you not try to offer you participation points lol. That being said, this is not a commercial with all sorts of money dripping out of it but a week long reality shoot that we are paying for ourselves and so if you give your day rate give one that you still feel good working at but keep in mind that the director is working for 1/2 pay because he believes this is going places and 2 of the 3 producers plan to get paid when it does get picked up. Already in discussion w/ distribution companies but again you are getting paid work for hire so no risk but just wanted to say why we will be more likely to respond to the humble rate vs. 30 years of experience and wanting $500 / day lol. - Audio Tech- Should have a mixer. and gear. Please include your day rate, experience, and what gear you have. - Camera operator. Please include your day rate, experience, and what gear you have. I'm just going to put $200 for the pay but have already had qualified applicants provide a day rate of less and a day rate of more so just put the rate that YOU can / will / or normally do work at. We will get one more experienced / higher rate and one less experienced / less rate for both of the positions. If you are a military veteran (especially Marine, Semper Fi) let us know. If you tend to bitch on long shoots and spend all day at craft services or smoking and get sand in your clxx all the time just don't reply. lol do NOT contact me with unsolicited services or offers
  10. Heard.... It also didn't help that support for another Super 16mm camera really wasn't there for a long time until the Arri 416 came out. Then all of a sudden The Wrestler, The Hurt Locker, and Black Swan were using it and then came Alexa. Yeah it is very sad.
  11. I work at a school in Orlando and the department I used to work in we have the first 4 production models of ARRI 416s right after it was debuted at NAB. In incredible camera that can too late in my opinion. Yes incredibly quiet and I've never been able to hear the camera ever. You can't tell it's running unless you see the running light or if you put you hands on the mag you can feel it moving. They really should have made this camera 20 years ago it would have been the GoTo camera. Seems so wasteful they really only had it made for a span of 7 years than Alexa gave birth. Can't talk great enough about it. I was lucky enough to have the great experience been at the ARRI booth in 2006 when It first debuted and I got to hold it on my shoulder before most if the world saw it. Yeah, a sound guy getting gushy over a camera....imagine that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Sorry I haven't answered back. Just saw this today. No, I hear you. Most of my jobs are strictly one way. As a recorder. As that most of the jobs I'm doing these days are DSLR. I did do a job recently in November of 2013 that they wanted camera audio as well. That one paid more. It's 99% though one way for me. I generally urge them not to go to camera. I don't like relying on camera audio to be good. My Nomad records flawlessly so I really try just to get them to let me keep the recording close to me. I don't have a proper camera hop anyway. It was a mono to one channel mix to camera. No ISO's since it was all interviews and ambience. I mean I had at most 2 tracks the entire 2 days of the shoot. I got the Nomad in the advantage of being ready for jobs that require a good solid recorder. I have been offered in the past and had to pass them over to other guys because I didn't have the right gear. Plus I figured a Nomad would have longevity of re-sale value if I needed to sell in the near future. I didn't want to get a lower priced recorder with less features and not get back most of my money.
  13. Actually that's good you asked that. Actually I have been getting work. The post was not as a plea for not getting work but I'm always looking to network in all areas tat can help. I actually did not own much equipment to begin with. I had a a few pieces of used older gear like a PSC M3 and some older wireless. Some that I've kept and most that I sold.. Got lucky for years just borrowing pieces here and there. However, I did just start getting some regular work that was been very consistent (Like 3 times a month and then it became 1 day a week for like 3-4 hours tops. I cakewalk.) I was getting frustrated having to always search around days before the jobs for gear because either someone didn't have something, someone was using this pice of gear on another gig, or something was in repairs. It was a sign I needed to just invest already so I could have a base ENG package and not have to worry, whether I could do the job, not really confident that i had gear for the job. Also, I didn't want to get some more used gear that in a few months or so would have little resale value because of being so close to obsolete (This actually already happened). I'm still selling some leftover pieces now. I'm not in the same financial situation as many on here that can take a large financial risk, however It seemed right and it has been working so far. I bought a Zaxcom 10 because, going the cheep route say a 744T or the like, was making me less competitive in my market. Plus I love Zaxcom products and it just seemed right. No regrets so far. It wasn't a quick decision mind you. I spent the better part of 2012 waiting for the right time to make a purchase. I wanted to make sure I was getting regular work before I did. I just wanted to make myself more aware to the folks here so if something comes up maybe my name will sit in your memory banks. Believe it or not some to most of my jobs are referrals fem other sound mixers in Orlando and Florida. Sound mixers may not be the ones that hire but they are definitely not a bad bunch of guys and gals to see you on their radar for recommendations so why not be more showcased to other sound mixers, no? The other part of the post was a long shot. I've wanted a possibility of working outside my state at least just once. Honestly I've never worked outside of Florida so it's been a want of mind to work in say New Orleans or NYC on a gig. I know thats not much of a chance since productions would rather hire locals but i hear from some of the other sound dudes in town that they work in places like New Orleans, NC, NYC, DC, and I always wonder how are they getting this cool gigs if they're a bunch of Florida dudes?
  14. I'm in Orlando but I have a lot of family in Miami and can travel. I grew up there from 1977-1994. I sent an email a few days ago.
  15. That is a very cool idea and a really selfless act. I wish I could sacrifice a gig to give. I do already donate to St. Judes in my own small way when I can (Through donations at Publix and I think at participating CVS. We also send money at the end of the year.). However, I have 2 little babies (3 and 8 months), 2 dogs and a cat at home that my wife and have to keep fed . I also, don't write off these donations all the time. Mostly because I don't think it's always about financial gain in a donation. It's about the help you can give to those in need. That deserves an atta boy Mike!!!
  16. Maybe employing an "iPad" like device or pad type of sorts. I don't just throwing that out there. Out a new led based slate from scratch instead of using the current Denecke slates. Or even making an app that somehow has a better marketability than the current slate apps. Maybe a Zaxnet to iPad breakthrough. Although, I know currently there is no way to bridge the Zaxnet to any other wireless bridge gap currently and maybe that's the way the want it and/or the technology behind it keeps that way. I agree a Zaxnet slate would be awesome. However, as it is I can't afford any more Zaxcom products but you do get what you pay for.
  17. Thanks for starting this thread. It looks like a solid machine and if I hadn't already purchased and fell in love with my Nomad I might have considered this option. I've always loved SD products as much as I've loved Zaxcom products. Still wished they'd just added 1 more input with a pre-amp but not like it's a deal breaker they way it is.
  18. Looks like a solid machine in the vain of the 302/552/664. Love all the power options and the USB for keyboard feature. I do hope Zaxcom gets that happening real soon. It's not like I'm looking to get one since I just bought my Nomad and so far I love it but if I had held on and knew that SD was coming out with a new product, I might have considered this product. I do very much like a lighter machine since I am always looking to lighten my load and less stress on my back.
  19. Was able to fix the issue via awesome help from Zaxcom Support Team on a Sunday. Decided to take some sage advice to format the mirror card on my computer using Disk Image (Mac) and it's been working great since. Must remember that next time. These CF cards that I use by the way are Transcend (Primary card) and Sandisk (Mirror). See I'm used to using Deva 5's on DVD Ram disks when it comes to Zaxcom. Then, mostly working with 744T's. Never had a mirror issue with SD so this is really new to me. The most biggest problem I had was with a 744T I borrowed which had a card drive issue. I think there is somewhat of a learning curve to the Nomad. Still love this machine though. The past 2 days I've been using it at KSC for a "sizzle" to sell a show for the Travel Channel. I got to see for the first time a launch at the Space Center. On Saturday I was 25 feet from the Maven, short for Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN, Atlas V rocket. An amazing 2 days and got to really test out my recorder. This was really a small hiccup. I have to say I was very impressed with how Zaxcom was helping me via a series of emails that I had not expected anyone to even think about at least until today but low and behold Zaxcom customer service did me a solid. studiomprd - Thanks for the advice that I should lowball instead and Ill let them all know you told me so. Jack - thank you Vin - thanks for the wiki article. Very interesting read. Peace
  20. Sorry. My goof. I meant to write v 6.13. I had 5.14 on the brain from reading a Zaxcom forums post. I did not try another mirror card because I currently only have 1 card (I know I should have a few but again this is my first recorder purchase. IN the past I either worked for others, borrowed or rented gear). I did reformat the card many times while trying to re-mirror. Pretty much every time I tried a new mirroing process I re-formatted the mirror card. I eventually had to take the files off of the primary card and then Zax convert them to give to the client on Monday.
