  1. I know this was from last year. I just found out a few days ago they closed...and I live here in Orlando. I guess it's been a while since I've been there. I always liked the idea of a production audio rental/sales house in my town. There used to be a few places where you could rent and buy audio gear but they were a mix of video and audio. A couple of things I didn't like about TAI, I was told by Joe Guzzi that they refused to work with Zaxcom because of something that happened a long time ago and that is where I started to notice their downfall. I had also heard around town that the repair department had fallen. Not the same as it used to be. Mostly, it doesn't help that our governor is a horrible leader who lied about supporting the FL film industry and has let so much work get stolen by GA. A really stupid man who started a WOKE war against Disney and ran a horrible presidential campaign. Surprised me that TAI lasted as long as it did.

A few years ago I came in to pick up a cable, can't remember what it was. Some guy in there came to me and asked if I needed help, "I said yeah I'm here to pick up a cable that I order." It was specific to Zaxcom so the guy knew this and put his ponter fingers in an X formation and like acted out as if Zaxcom was the enemy or something but said "Just kidding heh he". It was so bizarre and quite creepy. Zaxcom or Glen Sanders must have traumatized all of them because they would not sell or service Zaxcom gear unless it was a Deva. Anything Nomad and later they did not want to have anything to do with. Their loss.

Of course you can do it, depending entirely on how ambitious they get with the shots they want.   I did this a fair amount on relatively simple stage shoots (so I could have everything on a cart), and some budget challenged corpo projects.  Just make sure that everyone understands the scope of what's being asked for, that your attention to any one part of the overall task will be split and that it will all take longer to get done with only you doing the work.  Be especially vigilant about "mission-creep" in this context: what can seem manageable in planning can get out of hand with just a few changes or additions to what's being asked for....

Well, yes this is possible. Again, possible. Do I recommend it? Nope. Have I done this? Yep. Did I like it? Hell no. It's one thing doing a small indie little project as a one man band but they have to realize the limitations of that. Playing back once in a while or at very most providing IFB so they can listen to takes as they happen is probably best and even that is saying a lot. Charge appropriately for it. Again, I'm reading "playback and earwigs with recorded dialogue" as something in it of itself as some sort of listening need. I haven't had too much experience with ear wigs but normally those are for dance sequences and in some cases hidden camera shoots to be able to talk to on camera talent. I've never had that request simply so other can listen to recorded dialogue. I do shoots all the time as a one man band (trust me I don't like it and I'd rather have an assistant the entire time but they don't ever want to pay for it) and utilize my ERX's for IFB assistive listening. But these are 1 day corporate ENG shoots. Not a whole feature. As a standard, features need to have at least 2 person sound team or they're really wasting money and time.

The Nova looks and sounds like an excellent product to me, an all important, significantly increased capability, for significantly less weight has been achieved, we really don't need ever more behemoth recorders to drive ourselves in to the ground, with ever increasing producer demands.

The Zaxcom Nova is really going in the right direction, and no one else is, except perhaps Zoom but with much simpler recorders.

All you complainers are like spoilt brats already moaning about something that you have not even tried yet.....:)

I wouldn't look at it as complaints. It's constructive criticism. Mine is not about 1 product in particular. I really just would like to see Zaxcom finally utilize Apple iOS products like iPhone and iPad capability to be able to severely attack competitiveness of Sound Devices.

    FOR THE LOVE OF GOD

    UPDATE THE SCREEN pleeeeze

My nightmare realized: It looks like exactly the same low res, dark in sunlight, tiny, scratch prone, crap screen that I've been using on the Nomad for the last 7 years.  It SUCKS. (The rest of the Nomad is brilliant imo)How hell are you going to monitor 8 wireless RX and as many tracks on this microscopic Tandy era technology?  ...and don't get me started on the Windows based Touch.

It needs to be bigger, ultrabright (like SmallHD monitors) higher res, bigger(oh, did I say that already?),  scratch resistant, bigger, maybe OLED, and bigger.

Glenn, +50% of your Nova customers are old and getting older and slowly going blind.

Also, 6 pots should be minimum.

    -With love,

"...and don't get me started on the Windows based Touch." Yeah, that's one of biggest pet peeves. I wished they'd gotten on board with Apple a long time ago. I feel like they might be a little sensitive about Apple smart technology.

Lol Bump...any updates on the tiny antenna front? Interested in powered and non powered options for 2019!

This is the one I have and it works pretty well. https://www.digikey.com/products/en?keywords=931-1119-ND

I also purchased this amp for around $50 and it seems to do well. I power it from an external USB battery. https://shop.hak5.org/collections/hak5-field-kits/products/hak5-long-range-wifi-field-kit

Don't forget the built in Micplexer as well, which apparently will have external output for additional external receivers, however not fully confirmed, and doesn't seem to be apparent on the available photos so far, so that's a bit of a mystery?

Are the 6 push buttons user assignable, anyone know?

Is it goodbye Nomad like 'mode' choices, so the Nova 12 record tracks can be assigned to any 12 inputs, say 4 analog and 8 AES (4 internal plus 4 external) without sacrificing Zaxnet or Neverclip or returns?

Are you kidding me? UGGGH!!! I hate that I don't have money for this. Basically replacing the need to buy like 3 different units. I don't even have enough to sell to get close to getting what I need to buy this thing. :(

  7. I'm disgusted...mainly because I want one and I don't think I'll be able to afford.

Does anyone know what a Nomad 10 and a QRX would go for? I have to keep my TRX's. I'm not totally sure I;d want to pull the trigger but I'm rather curious.

As worthwhile as our sound community is, your kids are more important!  Make it a point to enjoy the time together thoroughly -- I feel confident they will.

Oh of course. It wasn't ever an issue for me. My little guy has a 6 year birthday and we're driving to Legoland. Woo hoo!!! Beat that NAB!!!!

Hope you can make it  ---  I know it's a big trip for a lot of people (and Las Vegas is expensive).

Well, I just got the final word from the wife. I can't make it out. She wants me to spend our money on a trip with the kids. We haven't done one in about 2 years so unfortunately, I can't make it. I also wanted to let you know so you don't have an extra RSVP waiting in the wings unless something changes between now and then.

Off topic. I didn't realize your store was in Oakland Park. My brother is a firefighter for Oakland Park.

Guys, it's a boom pole... normally Carbon fiber....  The rod holder is steel...  there is no way it's breaking, unless your using a lead boom pole...  It's the same thing...  I never once had the feeling it was not up to the job or dangerous in any way.

One on top is $14   one on bottom is the Remote audio one... $30....  The difference...  threaded post.. and a slightly longer holding hook.. (which I prefer).

$18 for the one on from Dalton on Amazon is a good deal...

    $14.00.jpeg

    $30.00.jpeg

I've had 2 of these for over 15 years. Neither have ever broken nor have they fallen on top of anyone's head. I own a C-Stand and if you properly tighten and set it up so that the weight goes towrds the "tighten" side. You should be golden. Just use common sense and try to set up before talent is to sit down. Oh yes, regardless use a sandbag on the high leg. These run about $10 at your local Walmart and they are in the sporting section by the marine stuff I believe.

I love it. Its like a sled you guys created for the folding cart to drop into. Even though it’s now a 2 piece cart its still rather small to fit into even a 4 door car. What else have you guys done to it?

I can't take credit for this by the way. This is not something I did. I can't remember who these guys are.
