  1. Hmm. Surely most things we will get in a final feature on Amazon are going to be ADR, right? I've been out of the game for a while but if we're talking about the kind of production that would need this help, I'd reckon (I am asking a question, not making a statement) that lav-audio would've been replaced in the ADR world?
  2. Well, sadly I am going to have to sell the 833 soon LOL, but yeah the SD people are always awesome.
  3. Late to this conversation but I think KenMartini has a good point, NA helps sometimes and the cost is reasonable for the value received. I agree with Michiel that "Noise reduction always comes with loss of intelligibility" and this needs to be balanced in the NA settings to get the best mix you can get under the conditions. I disagree that "Software noise reduction on a recorder is probably the worst thing you can do and reduces your gear to the quality of conference calls..." - NA has saved my bacon a couple of times and made things sound worse a couple of times; whenever possible I bounce a raw track so I have one with and one without NA - that too has saved my bacon.
  4. So it had turned out that the SD had a cold solder from the manufacturing process. They took it back, paid for FedEx shipping both ways, fixed it to be up to their new specs, and FedExed it back. What I love about Sound Devices is that every time you get a person on the phone, they're an actual, trained expert in what you are discussing. It's such a pleasure to deal with that company!!
  5. I am with Derek. It seems that the emphasis has been moving away for some time from great audio to loud audio and tons of background sounds, which can be great until it isn't. It strikes me that if one needs special processing to hear the main characters speaking, something is wrong with the production values. Yes, I'm old.
  6. Hi, all, I have a Sound Devices 833 running 9.0.1 firmware. It has worked beautifully and flawlessly. Today I started it up and got the usual timecode modal and ignored it as always and the screen went black and all the fader lights turned off. I confirm power is getting to the box as it has batteries AND it was plugged into mains. Subsequently I have tried with just the batteries or just the power mains, no soap. Even if I could get the danged thing to start I would be hesitant to factory reset (for fear of losing all the presets I have made, plus the NA plugin) but I sure would like to force it to restart. Has anyone here had a similar issue? I have a backup MixPre6 II but hey, this 833 is my main machine. I have got a support call in to SD, but I had wanted to do some recording today, so I figured I would ask. TIA.
