  1. Maybe it's a dumb suggestion, but have you checked the nut on your transmitter is tight? I had locking problems once in a show but didn't notice the female jack nut wasn tight all the way until I checked home. Long shot, but worth trying...
  2. I've only worked one feature, but both cameras used teradeks, everything wireless. By the way, the sound mixer sent audio to video village with a g3 too. The only wire in set from sound was when we remoted the antennas.
  3. Any new options in this regard? It can't be such an obscure connector...
  4. Wow, it's really good to know, thanks guys! @Martin Lonek yes, I was aware of the ultrasonic interference on older units, but luckily in my market I haven't seen cinetapes or the likes, so by the time I see one I hope I have already a better TX.
  5. The upgrades would be in the size of TX, form factor and RF filter quality of RX, and wide band. In Spain we still have 470 to high 600's open, but TV stations are scattered and it changes a lot. I know all wisy would be ideal, but investing 10k is really out of the question right now. With 4x 5212 I would be pushing 6-7k, not low budget but more manageable. That's why I'm asking for people that have used these TX.
  6. Hi fellow sound people! I'm looking to upgrade my wireless game as I'm starting to get more involved in the narrative world. I've used the g4 ew500 modded system up to this point, and I'm looking at a reasonable budget alternative that still allows me an upgrade path if work keeps coming my way. For the receiver I'm looking at wisy mcr54, very solid piece of equipment. For the tx I was looking to get second hand sennheiser 5212-ii's because of the size, bandwith, compatibility with mcr54 and PRICE. An all-wisy setup is too steep of an investment for me right now, but I haven't tried this TX and in my area I don't have any rental or colleagues that have them to test. So the question is: is the quality of 5212 up to par for narrative work in nowadays world, or should I see them as "portable g4" and treat them as such? Thank you all for reading.

    What is this?

Consider that being a small surface, it will introduce some phase cancellations. It will help in small reflective rooms where you would have those anyway, but it's no substitute for a treated room or some BIG sound blankets.
  8. I'm not familiar with lectro, but have you played with squelch settings? Not used COS11 either, but I remember reading that older models were susceptible from high frequency EM interference. If you can't get it sorted playing with settings, maybe renting a dpa to test...
  9. Wide band is mandatory where I live, in a matter of 150km you switch TV areas and go from 470-580 to 580-650. If you don't travel and don't use a lot of channels 88mhz can be enough
  10. Anyone has seen this wireless system on the field in all this time? The brand name came up the other day in a course and it reminded me of this thread. Maybe as a digital alternative with twin connector diversity for the senny g4?
  11. Recorded a fake documentary style short film in january, Canary Islands. 3º to 15º celsius, high humidity. A mini cmit and cmc6/41 developed noise almost inmediately the first day, we had to resort to lavs to keep the one cmc6/41 we had alive dry, to record an important dialogue we had to film the last day. I was booming but the sound mixer was very experienced in documentary and feature films, so no user error. I wouldn't get a schoeps if doc is your goal, they seem too delicate. I'm saving for a 4017B myself.
  12. Possibly RF, maybe if they where using LED lights for the interview part. Sometimes those modules aren't shielded at all and spit a wide band interference. Do some testing near LEDs and see if that was the noise you were hearing.
  13. Maybe a combination of hard case and NATO rails? (if it suits your workflow). I don't use one, but I try to find a balance between protection and weight.
  14. Well, considering the Cantar X3 is also 9 years old... I wouldn't think so.
  15. Well, I'm gonna derail the thread lol We get to an interview in a third floor library. I set up sharkfin antenna as usual, and when I fire up the rf explorer, I notice the rf overload of the antenna is lit. Even with 6dB padding, the amount of rf noise was huge. I start to look outside the windows, and I spot a HUGE cell phone station on the building across the street. So I tried switching to wips and everything calmed down enough. Moral of the story: higher isn't always better!
