  1. Thanks for replies gents, I think its great for reference to have at least ballpark figures from around the world. Especially since we are all mostly using the same or similar gear. I know the rates do vary from job to job but it can be such a grey area that we end up undercutting each other. We are trying to establish guide lines here for our market so at least there is some sort of standard to refer to. I should of course post some numbers for our market, these vary wildly between local and foreign clients and if a local prod company gets in the middle or not. Mixer hard wired to camera 2 x Professional wireless lavs (Lectro, Wisy, Zax, Senn, Micron Audio Ltd) Boom Boom Mic w Rycote Usually $150 minimum at present Then for extra a la carte items: Wireless Hop Between $50 - $75 TC Recorder Usually $50 - $75 on top of basic package Extra Wireless lav Usually $50 IFB Tx Usually $15 IFB Rx Usually $15 And also NB what if any discounts are you giving for weekly deals? Sometimes we are pressured to do 4 day weeks, but generally bill full kit rates for each shoot day
  2. I know this topic gets discussed frequently and can become tiresome but would appreciate your input here. There is a good thread going on in the "Equipment" section where folks are talking openly about what they are getting weekly for network TV shows. I would like to know from people in the US, UK, Europe and worldwide what they are getting daily on bag jobs. In my market in my part of the world we have no unions or any organizations looking after our shared interests and are now doing our best to get everyone together and determine fair minimum rates for our gear packages. In trying to find a new standard that fits our market it would be really helpful to know how others are billing for gear around the world. I think this could be a helpful reference for many others also. Would like to hear where you are based and your "numbers" for a "standard" package: Mixer hard wired to camera 2 x Professional wireless lavs (Lectro, Wisy, Zax, Senn, Micron Audio Ltd) Boom Boom Mic w Rycote Then for extra a la carte items: Wireless Hop TC Recorder Extra Wireless lav IFB Tx IFB Rx And also NB what if any discounts are you giving for weekly deals? Thanks in advance!
  3. I only know him from his spoken intro to Zappas "Illinois Enema Bandit" which was fantastic! RIP Don
  4. I had my original faulty 8060 replaced and the new one has been good so far, hope my luck continues cause I really like it!!
  5. Reviving this... has anyone now got the SBOX-1N?? Also may be in the market for a smaller TC generator and looking for experienced users to vouch for this new box.
  6. So that I can recommend this mic to others, or not.... Until there is some transparency about what the issues are effecting what serial numbers etc Sennheiser are gonna be losing sales on this mic.
  7. New mic arrived from Sennheiser Germany this week, so far performing as it should. Only time will tell. I would still like a definitive statement from someone at Sennheiser letting us users know what the issue was/is with this mic and what batches/ serial numbers were/are effected.
  8. thanks PAtrick Yes had same problem last week on Epic shoot but camera tech did figure it out at gear check, then on the shoot we went to 50fps and it all went out the window anyway
  9. Yeah I did a comparison with a 416 plugged into another channel and adjusted the input gains according to the levels I was getting out of the mics from the same source (my voice) STILL found MY 8060 to have a higher and more audible noise floor than the 416 and Sennheiser Germany have now sent me a new mic which is on its way to me.. hoping the new one will be as solid as my 416!
  10. Just got my 8060 back from Germany yesterday after 6 weeks turnaround. (I am in South Africa) have not yet used it on a shoot to see if the fizzing problem is still there but have noticed it now has a noticeable background hiss. Called Sennheiser in Germany today and waiting for some info back from them. Needless to say I am annoyed and unhappy that the mic was sent back to me in this condition and have no choice but to recommend others to stay well away from the 8060 until we have definitive information from Sennheiser letting us know what the heck is going on with these mics.
  11. Sennheiser Product Specialist, welcome and thanks for taking the time to post here and reassure us that have invested in the MKH series. The 8060 is a great mic and glad to hear that you are committed to making them dependable and problem free like the rest of the range.
  12. Thanks for advice Rado, will see how things go. I have 416 and a CS3e so will continue with those but 8060 with the WS1 was a very compact setup to travel with which I like.. maybe I'll switch to the MKH50 for travel gigs.
  13. Just sent mine off to Sennheiser for repair/replacement. I am starting to regret selling my CS1e.. I hope Sennheiser have identified what the issue is and can fix, great little mic when its not hissing or popping!
  14. On the other side of the world, just got back from a BBC shoot in Botswana where temperatures were 37 - 40 degrees daily. The unit got quite warm indeed but did not fail, Only weirdness I had was machine wanting to change daily folder in the middle of the day a few times and one slow CF media warning.. running 6 tracks mostly to 2 x SD approved cards. I have full confidence in this piece of gear for future away gigs.
  15. Just reading through this thread and thought I would mention I have these grounding issues with my 8060 as well. I purchased from Pro Sound in NYC but residing very far away in South Africa I am about to check out my options for sending the mic off for repair/replacement. wish me luck!
  16. Nope, Baby Ball Gags are for short mics ie omnis, cardioids and hyper cardioids. BTW I am using a Rycote WS1 with my mkh8060 for a while now and its been performing fine even in the strong coastal winds we get down here. Also using Rycote Tacit filter which I find helps quite a lot.
  17. Have been watching AMC The Walking Dead and noticed that cicadas are well featured bg for the prison location. Would love to hear from the mixer (Michael P Clark?) how that was dealt with on set and in post.
  18. All depends on how you want to use the SRa. I had some problems initially in hostile RF environments and running a lot of RF channels on reality shows. Now that I'm living in South Africa where things are not as crazy RF wise as NYC the SRa has been completely problem free and I never use 411s for a camera hop anymore. Also when you need to get a lightweight bag together you really cant beat the SR form factor and low power consumption. I have just had my block 26 upgraded to SRb and will be testing out on an upcoming 3 week doc.
  19. Yeah I am not seeing much thats grabbing my attention.. was really hoping the SD 302 update would be out of the bag this week.
  20. Good point, I dont have much on DAT but be good to back up those tapes now rather than later.. theres one place in town I know still has PD4s, I only ever owned a Sony TCD-D8 and that was sold to a company in NJ for parts back in 08.
  21. +1 for Nexcare tape, did take the black coating off my K-tek CCR section though!
  22. I used to have a 4071a which I did quite like but didnt use ever. It was a bit thin in the low end but quite detailed and sensitive and very directional and no noticeable noise issues.. I'm guessing the BP version is updated in some ways?
  23. My conclusion about the CS3e being the only Sanken mic without much of a rear lobe was from looking at the polar patterns on their website and also from owning other Sanken shotguns in the past. Clearly there is a big difference between the CS3e and their other mics, but yeah its all subjective Nice that we have so many great tools to choose from!
  24. Hey Mike P Clark I think it would be even more correct to say only the Sanken CS3e has no rear lobe! As you all know the CS3e has 3 capsules arranged cleverly to get rid of the rear lobe that happens on all traditional interference tube mics (including the CS2 and CS1e) and also has the effect of removing proximity effect.. that CS3e is a damn special mic and worth the money, I'm a believer!
