  1. Hey Dave Thanks so much for taking the time to explain all that and hopefully more people will become aware of the stage poles now, I am far away on the tip of Africa so will stick with my K152 and K102 booms (which I love) but will look at the stage poles for future purchases. All the best from Cape Town. Jonathan
  2. Also have a 152CCR and had NO idea about the 153.. why call them stage poles and have them in a completely different section? I bet more would sell if they were grouped together with the other klassic poles but with the note: removable tip
  3. With ball gag tape MKH50 switches and tape at bottom of the ballgag to close air gaps.. (flat mic sides) I have a Rycote WS1 which is perfect for the MKH50, good investment I think
  4. Hey Dan I just meant that the Rycote BBG with windjammer was more effective than the Rycote softie, which I'm pretty sure is true. I wasnt a fan of the the BBG and did end up selling it on however.. As for the Schoeps baskets there are definitely 2 sizes see here http://schoeps.de/en...small_bascet_sc The B20 basket is the really small one and is meant as a "close speech guard" The W20R1 is bigger, comes with fur and is probably what Dan is using (?) Go to this link and click on the image which shows W20, W20R1 and B20S http://www.used-film-equipment.com/Products/details/7000/en I head a look at a friends Leonard yesterday and it looks very good and apparently performance with fur in wind is excellent.
  5. I originally had a Rycote baby ball gag for my MKH50 and didnt like how heavy it was and also felt like all the plastic and the big fat rubber donut on the back influenced the sound and probably the directional pattern of the mic. The weight with the Windjammer on seemed to be too much for the lyre suspension. I then switched to a rycote softie which is certainly lighter and more transparent but again has the big rubber section at the back which I think influences the pattern somewhat. However if we're talking wind protection alone, the BBG with windjammer wins by a mile.. imho. I followed someones advice and got some softies and cut the rubber backs off and sowed the fur closed at the rear. This is what I am using for now on the MKH50 and Schoeps CMCs.. I think I might try a Cinela or Schoeps fuzzy ball next for more protection
  6. youre talking about the Rycote extended ballgag? The Rycote Baby Ball Gag slips over the front of the mic and is only good for longer mics like CMC641 or MKH40/50
  7. I say get a new MKH50, a very versatile and amazing sounding mic that you'll always have in your kit, you will never regret that purchase. Later on you will probably want to have the Schoeps as well and they are both awesome, the 50 is just more rugged and can take knocks and humidity/moisture better I think.
  8. +1 Mike I have a CS1e now which sounds great but the LF response is a bit much for booming and for strong winds even in a full zeppelin.. rolling off aggressively on 442 atm but would prefer this steep low cut at 60Hz as a starting point
  9. I recently opened up a faulty Schoeps LC60U and the actual circuitry is really tiny, smart move for Rycote and will def be picking up 1 or 2 of these
  10. nice to finally have an alternative to massively overpriced Schoeps LC60U. I would still like for steep LF roll off like this to be built into field mixers and recorders.
  11. Heres what I ended up doing with the C300, tomorrow I am slapping an NP1 on the back as well (rig is still front heavy)
  12. Eh.. give me a 5D any day. G2 Rx on the hot shoe and I bill for my 788!
  13. Thanks Rich Figured I'd be out of luck there.. Apart from that seems like professional connectivity and decent audio performance with exception of crappy h.phone circuit. Will find out soon enough:)
  14. Researching online as production just sprung the C300 on me night before starting shoot tomorrow.. was supposed to be XDCAM. Does this beast have 4Pin Hirose to power my SRA Rx?
  15. Maybe they were discontinued, dont seem to be on their site but there is this article.. hmmm http://www.dpamicrophones.com/en/news/archive/press%20releases/hydrophone.aspx
  16. Check out this link, Chris Watson shows setting up and recording 2 hydrophones on the beach.. geophones then strictly.. but I imagine a bit of stereo could be quite nice. http://www.chriswatson.net/downloads.html I have an H2A but havnt tested it out yet. DPA make hydrophones if you want the best.
  17. I love the idea of an internet radio station with hour long recordings! Very inspiring thread which I just checked back into now.. makes me want to go record stuff! The stereo pair has been gathering a bit of dust lately.
  18. Aaaah I get it Jeff. I wasnt planning on enclosing the power supply. Doesnt having it in a Pelican case or such negate any ventilation that the case might offer? I think I will just raise the power supply up and mount it inside my rack case where it will get some protection from the elements and hopefully still some airflow to keep it cool.
  19. Thanks Jeff.. I was thinking that the ventilated case would soon get filled up with dust/garbage/beach sand etc on some locations but the adjustable output voltage is obviously important and the enclosed type does not seem to be adjustable. If you and Scott say the Mean Well S150 are ok.. I guess I cant go too far wrong. Just ordered the 13.5V version adjustable from 12V to 15V.
  20. I am also trying to work out my cart power and would like to float a DC power supply over my 40Ah Lead Crystal battery I am trying out. I found this chart of the Mean Well GS220 series and am trying to figure out if I want 12V - 15Amp OR 15V - 13.4Amp?? http://www.meanwell.com/search/gs220/default.htm As Jeff said earlier I expect I need to have around 13.4Volts on the output.. which DC power supply did you end up going for Simon?
  21. Absolutely love recording and all the things we get to see as mentioned above. We are exposed to so many situations in our line of work (on docs especially) that really help to broaden ones mind I like to think. Some highlights for me have been recording a Bushmen chanting in the North West of South Africa, the locals singing in the hills of Lesotho and elderly folk singing religious songs in rural Alabama. Also dialogue recording can be satisfying too, when its quiet enough and everything just works likes its supposed to.. but I always love to get more than that, atmospheres in stereo and any music are always serious bonuses.
  22. Yes would be nice if the InVision mounts could have a rubberised layer on the inside. It would grip the mic better and stop damaging the paintwork! Maybe we should contact the manufacturer!?
  23. Did some testing again today and made sure the Rycote Zepp was sealed well (always need to tape over where the cable exits) wind was a good 30 to 40km/hour and with the 788 low cut dialed in from around 120Hz the low resonance seemed to disappear. I have never needed to dial in so much low cut with any other mic before. Rolling off at this point will start to impact voice quaility a little but I guess not a huge deal.
  24. Shooting outside of Cape Town today for outdoor brand HiTec in the DuToits Kloof area..
